  • Melbourne: Vince (134), Watts (108), Gawn (104)

Ins/Outs:

Out: Goodyear (Om.), Williams (foot), Maynard (hamstring)

Collingwood

In: Brayshaw, Pedersen, Hunt

Out: Vanderberg (foot), Stretch (Om.), Vince (susp.)

Game Notes: This is a difficult game to tip. The Pies lead the head-to-head over the past few years by a mile, having won 9 of the past 11 games (plus 1 draw) and Melbourne haven’t won back-to-back games against the Pies since 2006-07, but times have changed.

Melbourne were good against the Giants in round 1 and came close to defeating the Kangaroos last week. If you ignore the loss to the Bombers, they seem a vastly improved side. Meanwhile the Pies fell over the line against Richmond and have otherwise been disappointing in big losses to St Kilda and Sydney.

I reckon this will be close!

Thommo’s Tip:  Melbourne by 6 points.

  6. Very happy with the Dees. Held strong when the Pies stepped up. Gawn not the same level as last week, but did well when the Pies added a 3rd ruck to many of the contests. Oliver missing for much of the game, but there’s some interesting rookie prospects in Wagner and Hunt (mostly Wagner). Bring on the Tigers!

Game Chat – Collingwood v Melbourne

Written by Thommo on August 1 2015

If you rewind a few weeks, these two teams were showing so much promise. It just goes to show how quickly things change in sport.

The Pies were initially unlucky in losing 3 straight games, but their stellar form that saw them push Fremantle and Hawthorn has dissipated and they have since struggled against the Eagles and Bulldogs. With 5 losses on the trot, they need Cloke back and they need to win this week or the spotlight will shine once more upon the late season fade-outs at Victoria Park.

Meanwhile Melbourne have forgotten how to play the football that allowed them to defeat Geelong at Kardinia Park and they are playing ugly, defensive football. For the sake of their fans and the wider football public, hopefully they can discover some attacking flair this week.

Thommo’s tip: Collingwood by 18 points.

  1. I need some help with my team!
I need to trade out Ablett still and not sure who to get
My midfield currently looks like this-
Ablett, Fyfe, Thompson, Mundy, Rockliff, Beams, Kennedy and Martin
    Who should I trade in?
    TU: Pendlebury
    TD: Priddis
Comment: Dangerfield (any other suggestions would be appreciated)
    Thanks guys!

  2. I am planning to bring in Priddis for Ablett. I am trying to decide if I should bring in Danger for Fyfe. I have 5 trades now. My backup mid is Knight/McKenzie, so probably a 60ish point swing..

T/U Swap Danger in for Fyfe as well
    T/D Keep Fyfe

  4. Hi guys, I’m inclined to go Priddis as my Ablett replacement, that would leave me with 2 trades. There’s another query though:

Team is almost full premo with just Lever as the last onfield rookie in my team
to upgrade, but I’m probably more inclined to cling tightly to my remaining trades exclusively for any further LTIs. What do you guys reckon anyway?

T/U – Just do the Gazza trade and then hold the rest for finals
T/D – Trade Lever out to a premo Defender and go down to 1 trade, have a full premo team and hope for the best the next few weeks

I’m going to play finals in my leagues regardless of results this weekend.
