Game Chat – Essendon vs Sydney

Written by Thommo on August 1 2021

Where and When: GABBA, Saturday 31 July, 2021 at 7:40pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 4, 2021: Sydney 11.17 (83) def Essendon 12.8 (80) at the SCG.

Last 5 H2H: Essendon 3 – Sydney 2

Thommo Watch:

Essendon: The May-June poster boy, Darcy Parish has lost his lustre in recent weeks culminating in a shocker last week, coinciding with the return of Dylan Shiel. Let’s hope his, and Merrett’s, poor scores were a once off!

Sydney: Is anyone still riding the Heeney train? Thankfully Callum Mills is back to play his first game for Thommo’s Tribe – that was a brilliant purchase!

Match Preview: I hate Sydney but even I have to admit, this is one hell of a rebuild by Longmire. Under everyone’s noses, the Swans have built a team of kids that will be vying for a premiership in the next year or two and could even shock a few teams this season. The Bombers are finally following a similar path, appearing to have gathered some great young talent, but they will need to be at their absolute best to sneak a win this week.

I can’t tip against the Swans this week, especially at the GABBA.

Thommo’s Tip:  Swans by 20 points. (Tipping record: 30.5/55)

  1. No late changes, Ham and Stephens the subs.

Happy this game is going ahead. Super SC relevant, big ladder implications, should be very competitive.

Lloyd, Rampe, Heeney, Zerrett and the returning Langford here for me.

  2. Took a big punt on Heeney last week when everyone went Bolton for Dusty. Five goals and a bombers win would be perfect.

    1. Been forced to play more accountable today.

Francis up forward, Heppell greedy and peeling off, Swans rocking a lot of talls.

Had his hands full all day.

  3. Mills 33 possessions at 87%, 12 marks, 6 tackles and 1 goal for 119 points. He didn’t win a lot of contested ball but still a bit of a harsh score.
