Game Chat – Fremantle v St Kilda

Written by Father Dougal on May 12 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: Optus Stadium, Saturday, May 12, 6.10pm AWST

SUMMARY: The Dockers returned home with their tails between their legs after copping a pasting from Richmond at the MCG, but they are a different outfit at Optus Stadium and will start warm favourites against a disappointing St Kilda outfit. The Dockers have won three of their four games at home, averaging 98 points and playing a fast and free-flowing brand. No interstate side has won at WA’s new football venue since Sydney knocked over West Coast in round one and St Kilda will need to show vast improvement to trouble Freo. The Saints have gone winless since round one – albeit with one draw – and are having nightmares in front of goal, kicking 45.78 combined over the past six matches. It will take a more polished display from the visitors to stop rampant superstar Nat Fyfe leading Fremantle to another home triumph.

LAST FIVE TIMES:

R15, 2017, St Kilda 12.17 (89) d Fremantle 12.8 (80) at Subiaco Oval
R10, 2016, St Kilda 15.11 (101) d Fremantle 10.7 (67) at Etihad Stadium
R19, 2015, Fremantle 15.6 (96) d St Kilda 8.11 (59) at Etihad Stadium
R18, 2014, St Kilda 17.16 (118) d Fremantle 9.6 (60) at Etihad Stadium
R23, 2013, St Kilda 16.16 (112) d Fremantle 6.5 (41) at Etihad Stadium

Father Dougal’s Tip: If the Dockers lose to the Saints playing at Optus Stadium, I will give up beer for a week. Fremantle by 40

  1. And the community told me to go Cripps over Max for Vc. At least my team won, I’ve had six Teelings so I’m feeling pretty good. Go Nate complete my night. Think I’ll sleep pretty well regardless.

  3. Going to need a huuuuge score from Fyfe with Naughton getting me a 0 – not looking like it at the moment.

  4. Billings. I don’t even have words anymore……

Why did i start him? But more importantly, why the hell haven’t i traded him??
Might as well trade him to ronke who will be worth 200k! Ronke will be worth more than him in a few weeks anyway!

Bit of a rant done there. Lets hope the Muppet gets to at least 70

    1. To be fair, Saints delivery into the forward line has been appalling. Billings needs to be rotated into the middle and start hitting some targets up forward. He has no confidence in front of goal, but is a beautiful kick to lead up forwards.

  5. For those that have Fyfe as C….

Playing very well, disposal inefficiency costing him, but he’s getting a lot of hardball so that’s to be expected. Kicked a nice goal. Couple of frees against probably cost him another 10 points… hope he can go on to get a nice 140+ and make up for not taking Gawn earlier today.

    1. a spell in the VFL is now inevitable. Bumped into Joey Montagna last weekend …
“should’ve happened this week to be honest”. On the positive side, Ed Phillips might be around for a while. Looking good

  6. whoever it was who spruiked Jimmy Webster all week. You were right!! Dunstan also looks to have been given a freer, more attacking role. No pressure Richo. Too little too late apparently 🙁

  7. So Fyfe picked up about 25 points that quarter.. don’t think he deserved it. He’s been off today, very poor efficiency by hand and foot.

Good news is the Saints are back in this and Freo are going to need to pull a solid quarter out to stop the momentum. Fyfe is going to need a 50 point quarter to post something competitive as captain….

    What a week.

  8. Can someone get Tim Membrey a right boot? I’m convinced he has two left boots on. Has missed about 4 sitters right in front 25m out.

  9. Can’t complain too much about Fyfe…

    36 touches
    25 contested
    12 clearances
    Goal

Shame I didn’t have the C on Gawn to make up for the Naughton donut.
