Game Chat – Fremantle vs GWS

Written by Thommo on August 29 2020

Where and when: Optus Stadium, Saturday 29 August, 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 5, 2019: Fremantle 16.10 (106) def GWS 11.16 (82) in Canberra

What it means to Fremantle: This really is Fremantle’s last chance to play finals. If they win this they are only one game out of the top 8, if they lose they might as well call it a season.

What it means for GWS: History is littered with teams that play in the Grand Final one year, then immediately fall in a hole (Adelaide anyone). GWS has had injury woes, but they simply should be much better and they need to defeat the Dockers today or they deserve all the criticism they will receive.

Supercoach Watch: This is going to be a huge SC match with Fyfe, Ryan, Brayshaw, Walters, Kelly, Coniglio, Whitfield, Williams and more playing. Warning: DeBoer is also back in for GWS!

Thommo Watch: I welcomed Luke Ryan to the tribe last week, this week Brayshaw is in. Let’s hope that Brayshaw continues the successful run!

Thommo’s Tip: GWS by 12 points.

    1. Williams while Davis is still out. Although I bought in Haynes about 3 hours ago (already have Williams), so hoping both go large.

    1. Nah, Ryan’s useless outside of Optus. This is Freo’s last game in Perth. Will go large today, then trail off for the remainder of the season.

  1. am in 10 random leagues
3 of which are 1 v 2 against the same person ranked inside the top 1k
when i started playing this game there were 350,000 coaches
now they cant even create 10 individual leagues

    1. Yeah my first year was Dusty’s debut, and there was over 400k coaches. I wonder if the move away from people reading a printed version of the Herald Sun and all their SC ads means there’s less exposure to new customers.

      1. U can blame me for Kelly. Brought him in for this round and gave him the C. It hasn’t ended well

  2. Brayshaw just hasn’t really been seen this first quarter. Thought he might be more involved after seeing De Boer tag Fyfe and also Walters when in the fwd 50.
Brayshaw only on 1 disposal but also given away a free, sitting on -1 points

  3. This game will make or break my season.
Brought in Gould to bring in Walters when I could have brought in Riccardi and solid defensive cover

    1. I don’t worry about him as I don’t have him in my team, but I must say Ryan is manning on Cameron so he just isn’t getting involved like other games

  4. Freo are so boring to watch (sorry, FT!). Only know how to defend, structure up behind the ball and intercept. They’ve got no offensive capacity or willingness to bite off a risky kick and use the corridor. Only watching because I have 6 players here lol.

    1. Yep & if I remember correctly he has missed multiple games in the past with concussion.

Hopefully it’s not that bad & can play either the rest of the game or next week. Can’t afford another forced trade

      1. It happened literally at the half time siren so won’t know till 3rd quarter. Didn’t seem to stable on his feet though

      2. It’s happened right on HT, so he’ll have 20 min for the concussion test but they’ll be looking for fractures, jaw damage, etc.

All we know as of rn is that Mumford is a f*cking idiot. Not just saying that bc I own Kelly, Mumford is seriously useless. Spends 4 quarters walking into coffee tables, bouncing off the walls and giving away free kicks.

Give him some cocaine as severance and send him on his way, GWS.

  5. Lachie Whitfield……it would be very good for my chances of going straight to the prelim in my cash league if you had a minor calf strain in the rooms at half time.

  6. My qf is really tight. I have v on Macrae at the moment and oppt has c on him. Until Whitfield cut loose I was looking pretty safe in strategically taking Macrae average score…c is in a gcs non playing rookie.

    So…if I need to….switch c to

    T/U Satan
    T/D Cripps

Grundy and Goldy still options too. Grundy could go huge v blues.

    1. Go Grundy, Pitt’s looked very average even before his return last week. Big game against the blues so look for him to step it up a gear.

    2. In a similar position, had the VC on Boak who got 116. Thinking of taking that.

Not sure I trust Grundy or Cripps to definitely go over there.

      1. I deliberately kept the late c option after Macrae score for exactly this reason. Still think I might be ok to stay with him. Lock down on Whitfield would be nice.

  7. “Odds of him [Josh Kelly] coming back on probably not good”

    – Leon Cameron

    Looking like a concussion apparently.

these days ppl ask ” what do you so for a job
        i say supercoach
they ask ” what do you do for fun
        i say anything but
        just an annoying concept now

  9. Do we think jelly will be back for next week? I’ll take this L but really bad want him back for next week

        1. He stopped scoring after qtr time, so this had little to do with his score. Playing on Cameron is what more likely held him back, as he wasn’t a free defender roaming around.

  10. In regards to captaincy options, I went with MacRae last night so have to wear that, but post game last night I had a gut feel after holding Gawn for the last 3 weeks that I should have gone him.

I reckon he will go big on return.

  11. Also, I tend to take my 3 GWS players as one unit every week, and then hope they average 100 between them (whit, Haynes and Williams). So big tick there.

Riccardi brought in instead of Mozzie this week and pressing for my top 18.
Also feel sorry for Jelly owners but hope I can pick up cheaper in 2 weeks time.

    1. was on my never again list
silly me for thinking of him @ any price
is more injury prone than fyfe
pity i have to waste another trade next week

    2. I have same 3 Jamhed but not a tick for me as Whitfield has highest ownership so while combined score is good it would have been better if Williams and Haynes scored better.
A cross for me as well in trading in Walters not Riccardi .
Would have saved same cash trading in Riccardi this week

      1. Fair call PBuzz, probably also more important for these guys to go big in first 18 rounds too.
Still not unhappy though, I always take defenders and forwards scoring over 90 (Haynes obviously, not Williams)

Loved the look of Walters early season but looks like Brayshaw has taken his midfield minutes last few weeks, even after he came back from his hammy

  12. gee Williams looks to have been scored harshly – 21 possies for only 63 points … gave away 2 free kicks but still …

  13. Hey macca , re scoring, jelly went up after unfortunately being injured at half time and n. Wilson who I have, scored 3 points for a late goal. Is that an effective kick and a goal??

  14. Apologies to Jelly owners. I have avoided him all year – don’t trust his injuries.
Traded him in 5 minutes before todays game & made him captain, in less than an hour he was out of the game & my captain’s score ruined.

    1. Your not the only one – it seems this season that every player I trade in, goes to crap or gets injured. Also traded in Jelly this week.

  16. Didn’t get a chance to catch the game.

Was Serong soft-tagging again like he did with Cripps, or just outclassed by the Giants mids?

      1. Thanks GD!
Was hoping he’d be alright for 80 or so each week but with Tiges, Dees and Doggies mids to come, might be time to move him on.

        1. I traded him out this week for Macrae….really wanted Whitfield first cause of next weeks byes, but for tactical reasons went Macrae….oppt had v on him. Might cost me my QF 🙁
