Game Chat – Geelong v West Coast

Written by Motts on April 24 2021

Where and when: Kardinia Park, 1:45pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R9 2020: West Coast 11.7 (73) DEF Geelong 10.4 (64) at Optus Stadium.

Geelong looked on track for a mighty upset when Zach Tuohy kicked his side almost four goals clear early in the second half, only for the Eagles to slowly wear their rivals down. Josh Kennedy proved the difference, booting three of his four majors in a thrilling final term to lead West Coast to an 11.7 (73) to 10.4 (64) win. Tom Stewart was a leviathan down back for the Cats, who were also well served by the silky skilled Mitch Duncan, superstar Patrick Dangerfield and Zach Tuohy in his new forward role.

Match Preview: Interesting match this one with both teams sitting on 3 wins and coming off a soft win (North and Collingwood). Dangerfield returned last week but 75 points was nothing to write home about. His owners will be hoping the familiar surrounds of Kardinia Park get his season going.

Motts Watch:

Geelong
Stewart and Clark (if the kid gets made the medic again a ton of coaches will be howling)

West Coast
No Eagles in my team so I’ll say Nic Nat.

Mottsy’s Tip: Cats by 20 (tipping record 12/15).

      1. I was hoping that for Bruhn, and I have/had Campbell and Clarke.

        ****WARNING SCT WITH GAWN****
Due too my previous records of last minute Capt decisions, please be advised that I am currently contemplating leaving my Capt on Gawny even though I have Dunkley as Vc.

Your voting will be influential (maybe) on my decision,

Tu Leave as is with Gawn as Capt
Td. Take Dunkley’s score (please, please, please have mercy on Gawny)

Votes will be assessed (maybe) before Gawny’s game tonight and decision will be made just before the bounce.

        Good luck too all………

  1. What happened to the Eagles that quarter???? They were pretty level at 1/4 time to then be losing by 50+ at half time! They just disappeared!

    1. Geelong mids took control and Mcgovern injured and done for the day. Flood gates opened after that.

      1. Potential silver lining for Clark SC owners with Kolodjashnij and OConnor injuries is that Clark should be looking at a few games in the starting side now unless Scott decides to get cute.

    1. I think they may need to rethink scoring with Subs, it does not make sense to penalise a player – who has been rested as a sub that plays 5 mins, 2 quarters etc and still must hit their full BE.
Might need to deduct 25% of BE per quarter missed.

  2. ****WARNING VOTING HAS ENDED****

    …..ok nice try guys…..

Of my opponents this round, 5 have Gawny, 2 have Grundy and 1 has Macrae as Capt.

However MCG doesn’t have undercover (or does it?) and how will that effect things?

Decisions, decisions,…..need to decide a game early coz I forgot about the next one……
Will Smith? Bris, be my Capt coz the scores on the board with Dunkley……5 min to decide…..

  3. That was a nightmare game for an Eagles supporter.
    Nothing else to say.

The only shinning light was my replacement for Cerra… Mitch Duncan, 149 points!
