Game Chat – Gold Coast v Richmond

Written by Motts on July 6 2019

Where and when: Metricon Stadium, Saturday July 6, 2.10pm AEST

What it means for Gold Coast: This season is starting to look a lot like 2018 – win a few matches early and then not much after. With 10 straight losses, the Suns are desperate to show their home supporters there’s some life left in 2019.

What it means for Richmond: Every match counts and the Tigers simply have to win. Just a game clear of ninth and 10th, Richmond follows its trip to the coast with matches against GWS, Port Adelaide and Collingwood.

The stat: The Suns’ loss to Sydney last week continued a shocking run in the second half of recent seasons. In 2017 Gold Coast won one of its last 11 matches. In 2018 it was again one of the final 11, and this year it’s three straight losses since the season’s mid-point.

The match-up: Dion Prestia v Anthony Miles

Both men are playing their former club; Miles for the first time and Prestia the second. Although slightly different players (Prestia has a little more zip and Miles a little more grunt) they’re similar in nature and should provide an intriguing midfield battle.

It’s a big week for: Tom Lynch

After leaving Gold Coast via free agency at the end of last season, the former Suns skipper returns for his first match at Metricon Stadium in opposition colours.

Big call: Lynch puts all the drama aside and has a day out with six goals.

Mottsy’s Tip: Tigers by 35 points

  7. With a performance like this, Burgess might yet get a chance to claim his spot back and making a little more cash.
