Game Chat – Gold Coast v Sydney

Written by Motts on April 24 2021

Where and when: Carrara, 1:45pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R7 2020: Sydney 9.6 (60) DEF BY Gold Coast 13.14 (92) at the SCG.

Midfield duo Hugh Greenwood (23 disposals, 12 tackles) and David Swallow (22 disposals, one goal) were superb, as the visitors continually kept a young Sydney side at arm’s length throughout the evening. Izak Rankine in game 2 was ridiculous and there was no Heeney or Franklin but of the 9 Sydney youngsters under the age of 21 playing, Tom McCartin and Will Hayward were by far the most impressive.

Match Preview: Even with the match being played on their turf, the depleted Suns face a huge task to knock off The Swans. Despite coming off a loss to The Giants last week, Sydney looks leaps and bounds ahead of Gold Coast in their development and will be looking to avenge last year’s loss in their own backyard.

Motts Watch:

Gold Coast
Any chance Fyfe could get a game? I brought him in to be my loophole option but with so many DNP’s on my bench right now, I really hope he gets to suit up!

West Coast
No Eagles in my team so I’ll say Nic Nat.

Mottsy’s Tip: Sydney by 30 (tipping record 12/15).

  1. I’m not sure what I want more from Campbell as sub. Do I want him to make an immediate impact due to an early injury or to not step on the field at all? Hmmm

    1. Not be required and rest him completely for a week, although the way the subs have been used it’s likely he will get a run, so then first 5 minutes would be great!

  2. Hewett with a head knock! This could mean Campbell is activated due to potential concussion. Happened in 1st quarter 😮

  4. Campbell has been activated for Hewett and will play 3 quarters! He better make the most of this and not lose me more money!

      1. I sacked Clark but kept Campbell as I had confidence that he could still make some more cash. Hoping this gamble pays off, as if he was brought in for the final quarter I wouldn’t have been happy

    1. To compensate this they threw Warner on as a tag and halfway through the 2nd Miller yet to get another disposal. Still on 16

  5. Warner, Gulden and Campbell are all on scores between 20-30 at half time so currently none of them are standing out.

Warner’s currently tagging Miller so that at least keeps him around the ball.

Gulden was getting a bit of the ball late but was using it inefficiently same as Warner.

Campbell got himself into the game with ease so hopefully keeps it up.

  6. Sydney +5 inside 50s
Currently losing by 49 points at 3/4 time.
    Seems like a common result………

  7. Campbell hasn’t had much of an impact after that 2nd quarter and either has Gulden but Warner has made his BE. 10 minutes to play hopefully things change
