Game Chat – Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs

Written by Motts on July 23 2020

Where and when: Carrara, Thursday 23 July 2020 • 7:40 PM (AEST)

Last time they met:

Sunday April 7, 2019

Western Bulldogs 9.14 (68) def by Gold Coast 10.13 (73) at Marvel

What it means for The Suns: A win last week over Sydney kept Gold Coast in the 8 but with a tough match against The Giants looming next week, they’ll want to consolidate against The Dogs.

What it means for The Dogs: A win puts the Bullies into the 8. It’s also a chance to avenge last year’s shock loss at home.

Mottsy Watch: Huge Greenwood will be the bloke I’ll be watching tonight. Brought him in this week. Go Huge!

Mottsy’s Tip: Which Dogs team shows up? The one that played Carlton or the one that smashed Essendon? Suns by 5 points.

  1. Probably best to look at the overall trade like thjs:

    TU : bailey Smith & gawn 24k

    TD: petracca & English & 66k

  2. Have the VC on Greenwood tonight. Gawn as my captain, with Stef out for the Lions. If Greenwood scores 135-140 I’d be stumped on whether that is good enough after Gawn’s form

  3. Trade in options this week, needing a Mid or Fwd rookie to be able to bring in Gawn

    TU: Weightman
    TD: Simpson

    Already got Rankine, any others?

    1. Does Devon Smith need to be traded up to B Smith. Not having having D smith is a POD option anyway.
Don’t think C.Taylor, King or AArts are ready to be culled yet ?

  5. should I be looking too upgrade players like pickett, taylor and noble too premos or upgrading my flopped premiums like pitonet and ceglar to other premos?

    1. Pittonet & Ceglar are not premiums. Move them on first and get a real premo & a rookie. Then use your change to turn Taylor into a premo.
Hang on to Pickett until at least after bye rounds.
      Good luck!

    1. With the 20 days of straight footy, they’ve tried to get the better/more Vic games on. They’ll play the Dogs v Tigers on Wednesday next week

  8. Got nervous and didnt bring in Macrae for D Smith this week because i was worried Magnets would move him onto the wing with no hunter. Magnet developed sense and left him in the middle and hes on fire 90 at ht. Sigh, wish i just sent it

  10. Rankine seems to have a small injury to a finger, not too much to worry about though. Seems fine

  11. Will be trading out Pittonet for Gawn. The 2nd trade (cash needed to bring in Gawn) will need to be either –

TU : Trade out either Z Bailey (AV 69, BE 75) or Butler (AV 87, BE 155) which will allow me to trade in Simpson (Geel) as the best rookie available – I have Rankine, McPherson & Georgiadis, OR

TD: Trade out C Taylor (AV 64, BE 80) to bring in either Minchington, Frederick or E Taylor (can’t afford Simpson)

    1. OK then, so which one would you trade OUT with Pittonet (to be able to bring IN Gawn & Simpson)

TU: Z Bailey (BL) – Last 3 games Av of 66.7
      TD: D Butler (ST K) – Last 3 game Av of 62.3

      1. Nah, the last 5 minutes made a good contribution in a tight game. Only in the 90’s was sitting on 65 halfway through the final quarter
Looking at stats he only had 73% TOG

  12. Macrae is giving me a headache.
    TU: take his score
TD: Captain Gawn will go bigger against ruckless Lions

        1. He could score 130 with an average game. He could even score 20 with an injury.
Is it worth taking a risk for an extra 30 odd points over a banked 160 odd score?
It’s your call, but I’d know what I would do

          1. Good point NatoPotato. You are absolutely right. I normally take 120. But this year Gawn has been posting monster scores and has high ownership with the top 1%. I think I am just been greedy. Reality check, I Will take the 169 from Macrae.

  14. If Rankine kicked straight he would have scored massively! 1 goal 4 behinds in such a tight game

  15. I don’t understand the sudden fascination with English. A few weeks ago everyone was going his opponent as a loophole VC ‘coz he only has English’. Bizarro world.

Will be a gun for a long time though.

    1. Seeing him have a 5 round average of 140 really dragged people in and that 204 had people chasing points in a way. He gets a lot of possessions too which is Grundy like. He just played tonight by Witts taking him around the ground and off the ball, having less influence/possessions
He is definitely looking like a great future SC prospect.

  16. Yeh very god overhead & good decision maker
Conditions didn’t suite him or king tonight
Probably will still average over 110 for the rest of the season though
