Game Chat – Gold Coast vs Hawthorn

Written by Thommo on May 29 2021

Where and when: SCG, Saturday 29 May at 7:40pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 18, 2020: Hawthorn 17.6 (108) def Gold Coast 8.9 (57) at Adelaide Oval

Last five: Hawthorn 3 – Gold Coast 2

Match Preview: This is a pretty simple case of a team going pretty well versus a team that stinks. After keeping a few teams honest early in the season, the Hawks have turned belly up in recent weeks and they have shown very few signs of resistance.

Conversely, the Suns have been handy most weeks despite a bit of a blowout last week. They will want to reverse the result of their last meeting against the Hawks when they were smacked in the 2020 season finale.

All signs point to the Suns handing the Hawks another loss and moving them one step closer to a possible wooden spoon.

Thommo Watch:

Gold Coast
The Suns are not overly relevant in Supercoach, are they? For those playing at home, Touk Miller is racking up a heap of the ball each week and getting very little attention.
Hawthorn
On the other hand, the Hawks are more supercoach-relevant than they have been in years. CJ, Impey and Tom Mitchell are present in many a SC-team.
Thommo’s Tip: Gold Coast by 18 points (tipping record 16/30).

  1. Great to see my hawkers play again tonight. Now last time I watched us play we were destroyed by the saints. If we could turn up tonight and have a crack I’d be a happy camper. I’d love a win but I’m realistic. Let’s go hawkers!

  3. Bloody Lukosious. When I had you early in the year it would take him a full game to get to 70 points and he has that before half time.
Miller, can you please go sit down. I was looking Tom upgrade to you after your bye.

    1. Lukosious is my love child. I hung on cause I had no choices with other carnage. Ton last week and another coming it seems.

  4. What are people’s thoughts on Ned Reeves JS in the next few weeks? Do you think he’ll last at least through the bye rounds?

    1. Should be perfect for trading in after the Hawks/ Giants bye after next week.

I reckon his JS has to be good, why would he be getting played all of a sudden otherwise when the Hawks are rebuilding?

Maybe a couple of the Hawks boys could shed further light? Thommo?

  5. Yep as a hawker reeves stays in. Looks decent and I think Clarko is done with ceglar. I’m bringing him in next week for Flynn. As I write this message however he’s jogging off looking like a sore elbow or shoulder so hope he’s okay
