Game Chat – GWS v Western Bulldogs

Written by Motts on April 23 2021

Where and when: Manuka, 7:50pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R3 2020: Western Bulldogs 8.9 (57) DEF GWS 4.9 (33) at Marvel Stadium.

The Bulldogs physically dominated a Giants side that had embarrassed them last September, building the foundations for their 8.9 (57) to 4.9 (33) win on the back of fierce, hard-nosed footy that at times lacked polish but was never without effort and intensity. Harry Perryman (23 disposals, two goals) and Stephen Coniglio (24 disposals) fought valiantly, but the damage was done early as the Bulldogs scrapped to a 20-point lead at half-time and retained that advantage comfortably throughout the second half.

Match Preview: This match got a hell of a lot more interesting over the last couple of weeks with the Giants taking care of the Pies and then unexpectedly knocking off their cross town rivals last weekend. It means they come into the game with a bit of confidence which they’ll need against the 5-0 Dogs.

Motts Watch:

Western Bulldogs
The usual suspects: Daniel, Macrae, Dunkley, and Scott.

GWS
If Tanner Bruhn gets named I’ll be doing cartwheels. Otherwise probably J Kelly and, sigh, T Greene.

Mottsy’s Tip: Dogs by 30 (tipping record 12/15).

  1. “You almost have to suck him up the ground” says Wayne Carey on how to neutralize Toby Greene. Elite word choice.

God, I hate Channel 7 commentary. FoxFooty team so much better.

    1. He’s been burning me for years with monster scores when I didn’t have him. The year I finally get on board he churns out this rubbish.
      Hate his guts!

  6. More evidence of Daniel not being an elite SC defender this yr, and to my eye it’s correlated to the emergence of Duryea taking his role.

  7. Theres a reason Jellys breakeven of 128 had a 0% chance of hitting on supercoach website lol. Cameron just hates playing one of his best players in his best position. Currently in 6% of teams but cant see many keeping him. He will probably boost his score in second half to score a 70-80 odd but still so disappointing to anyone who started him

    1. Not on kickouts all the time now. Dogs have too many good kicks out of defence so hes not a lock to be first choice coming out of defence

      1. It’s not just that. Daniel isn’t even playing in the defensive 50 currently. He’s spending a lot of time sitting in the forward 50 which is a disaster for SC.

  9. Lachie Ash anyone? Been scoring well the last month, racks up alot of touches off half back and uses it well. Only ~400k, good POD option imo.

  11. What the hell is going on? Now English has been KO’d and Dunkley looks like he’s fine and ready to come back into the game?!

      1. I am considering Ziebell or Stewart for next week. Possibly both if Dunks is out for a long time.
        Everyone beware!!!

  12. And Dunkley off again and down the tunnel … not good … went out again just punching the ball … could be surgery they are saying …

  13. Thus far, Macrae has not been penalised or deducted anything for that 50M penalty towards the end there …

    6

    8
    1. for whoever gave the thumbs down, he had 1 free against at the time and was on 143 … he is still on exactly the same, without getting any extra touches …

      7

      7
        1. no he didn’t … that was well before he gave away the 50M penalty and was what pushed him to 143 … get your facts correct

          1. It was literally within a minute of the goal. CD don’t update the scores instantly mate.. Macraes score was well warranted end of story

      1. I wasnt the one who thumbs down. But i was watching closely and noticed on my app his score went up to 145 after his goal then down to 142 after the 50m he gave away. Then slightly back up to 143 after another kick right at the end. Thats what i saw from the app i used.

        1. on FF he stayed stuck on 143 … and still only shows the 1 free against, which was from early in the game …

It’s always interesting to see how the favourites get treated as opposed to the lesser knowns / some rookies … Scott picked up some possessions late, but his score basically didn’t move and in fact was scaled down right at the end

          1. Macca honestly mate, I know some people take this whole thing pretty seriously, but watching and analysing a blokes score fluctuating every possession is a bit much. Just enjoy it all bud

            4
    2. Looking at fanfooty it seemed the 3300 points had been allocated with more than 3 minutes to go so a lot of stuff at the end barely caused a change.

  14. Now that Dunkley is injured, he may possibly have to be traded next week. Was going to hold this week on trades but now thinking I should upgrade this week as next week may be forced to go sideways…

Have decided ; Warner > Lloyd

    Thoughts???

    1. Will have to wait and see on what the bulldogs are prepared to do with Dunkley. Are they going to manage it (high risk imo) or will they elect for surgery right away?

I know the dogs wanted to hold him back
May have no choice but to play him

  17. Great atmosphere at the ground tonight. Even with a small crowd, footy is just so much better. Hopefully the latest alarm in the west is just another false one and we still get a reasonably normal season.

Can’t believe the Dogs sent Dunkley back out there when the game was basically over, someone should be grilled for that rubbish. Macrae and Libba were brilliant, Daniel…not so much

TU Hold. The cream always rises to the top. he’ll come good again.
