Game Chat – Port v Bulldogs

Written by Motts on August 3 2020

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, 7:10pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 15, 2019: Port 5.11 (41) DEF BY Western Bulldogs 10.6 (66) at Adelaide Oval.

What it means for The Power: With Brisbane on an equal number of wins at the top of the ladder, Port will be looking to make another statement against a Victorian team this week and collect more margin in the process.

What it means for The Dogs: A chance to redeem themselves after a big loss against The Tigers last week.

Motts Watch: I’ll be looking to see if Dunkley’s return affects the scoring of Bailey Smith who’s starting on the bench tonightalready it’ (s not looking good!)

  1. I know you never trade out a premium, as Cripps showed as all last week.

But with Dunkley coming back now, is it time I move on from Bont and trade him for Macrae? (or another premium)

    TU – Yes
    TD – No

    1. It clearly showed it hit the post though. That’s exactly what the snicko is there for.

Anyone who brought Mayes in would be cursing him. A little holiday coming you would assume.

    2. Hi Jo I have to disagree,

It was the correct decision based on the tools in the arcs desposal. The edge technology showed a spike which is enough to overturn the decision.

It’s the same as snicko in cricket a spike means batter hit it and they make the decision of it.

        1. It’s definitely on there Jo, but you don’t see it during the review process, they only show it in the split screen when they are announcing the decision back to the umpires.

It’s a bit sluggish, but the main thing is they get the decision correct.

  3. English is too young to be really consistent, and being up and down it probably expected for a bit still. And the dogs can be hot and cold depending on their from and how their game is going.

  8. I selected Bontempelli because he gets Supercoach points for scratching his head, but even I am shocked by how highly he has scored tonight. I didn’t see 22 possessions and 8 clearances but I’m happy to take the points!

    1. Yes, that’s what his stats sheet says, but watching it a lot of those disposals were dropped balls, fumbles, etc…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to take the points, it just surprises me!

      1. agreed – that’s the point I often make, when you watch live games with live scoring (and even score it yourself as i do at times), players get given stats that they simply haven’t earnt (or should have) in the match.

  9. What we need to look at are the things we don’t see.
Contested possessions are/were when you had to “work” off someone before you took possession and disposed of it.
Eg. Full forward pushing off the full back to lead and mark the ball.
Eg A midfielder pushing off an opponent at a centre bounce.
Some of these we don’t always see (until maybe replays) from a different angle.
TV cameras have tunnel vision. If you want to see everything and know what’s happening sit on the wing in a high grandstand seat……or just ask your wife……
