Game Chat – Port v Geelong

Written by Motts on October 1 2020

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, 7:40pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R12, 2020 on August 14. Geelong 14.7 (91) DEF Port 4.7 (31) at Metricon. Hawkins kicked 6.

Last time they played at Adelaide Oval was in R14, 2019. Port 9.13 (67) DEF Geelong 8.8 (56)

Form: Port: W, W, W, W, W. Geelong W, L (Richmond), W, W, W.

Match Preview: I reckon if Chris Scott was being honest, he’d tell you that this is the Top 4 match-up he wanted. After flogging Port by 10 goals a month and half ago, the Cats’ confidence would be high. But Port have just finished top of the ladder for the first time in the club’s short history. They started and ended the year at #1 proving that they’re no slouches this year and the Adelaide home crowd will make a ton of difference.

Motts Watch: Hawkins v Dixon. This game is all about the full forwards and the opposition’s ability to curtail their output. The two biggest blokes at their position in the league. Should be enthralling viewing.
Mottsy’s Tip: I have a history of overrating Geelong in finals. They faced a stern test against Richmond a couple of weeks ago and came up well short. I do think they’re a better team than Port but I think the home ground advantage here will be too much for them to overcome. Port by 10.

    1. I definitely think this year the winner of the GF will be from the winner of the first two qualifying finals. That week off will be critical.

Hopefully my Tigers get up tonight.

    1. I’ll give him credit, he was talking about premierships all preseason. They’re in the box seat now to make the GF
