Game Chat – St. Kilda v Fremantle

Written by Father Dougal on August 11 2019

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Sunday August 11, 1.10pm AEST

What it means for St Kilda: Caretaker coach Brett Ratten has led the Saints to two wins and a brave road loss to Adelaide, strengthening his cause to be appointed to the role in a full-time capacity. Another impressive outing could only help, and would give the members reason to believe the club is on the right track.

What it means for Fremantle: A win and significant percentage outside the top eight, finals are nevertheless still on the radar and playing in September would be quite an achievement considering the horrendous run of injuries the Dockers have had among their tall stocks. There’s also been the innuendo surrounding coach Ross Lyon and other key staff as doubt swirls over what the off-season holds for a club that could be shaken up.

The stat: Saints forward Josh Bruce has clunked 38 contested marks this season, which sees him ranked No.5 in the competition for that stat.

The match-up: Hunter Clark v Adam Cerra

These two are unlikely to spend time on each other, with both used across half-back, but the pairing make for an interesting comparison. Cerra was drafted at pick No.5 in 2017 and Clark went two selections later, and have proven classy ball-users in sides that can waste the footy. While Cerra outperformed the Saint last year, Clark has found his groove in recent times and seems to have progressed more than the Docker.

It’s a big week for: Bradley Hill

There’s a fair chance the gun wingman is plying his trade in Victoria next year and the Saints  could use his skillset. A standout performance would help convince the club’s management to make the Docker an even more persuasive offer than it otherwise undoubtedly already would.

Father Dougal’s Tip: Saints at home, so Saints by 3

      1. Not sure, Andy.

Looked nasty but the tone from the commentators was surprisingly optimistic. Down in the rooms with the physio, rather than the doctor, to try and get him back out there apparently.

  2. Don’t care that Sandi is taking Marshall to school, at least he’s still out there. That could have been my season over.

    Crisis averted.

  3. Whoever is playing on Fyfe should be sacked or sent to play for my team as punishment. I’ll give you a hint the worst team in Victoria.
