A chance to wax lyrical with your fellow Coaches over the weekend……..
Any idea which bomber emergencies got on the plane ?
I think Begley tried to do a runner from gate 32 but they tackled him at gate 8 and dragged him back on the plane.
I know Zerk Thatcher and D Clarke flew over
looks like D’s were the beneficiaries of the soft draw last year
& victims of the tougher draw this year
probably got a bit ahead of themselves over the preseason
understandable , considering last year
it was their 1st competitive season in a decade
heads down in the coming preseason should see them back in the 8 next year
& a little wiser leading into preseasons in the future
The same was said about Adelaide in 2019 and they haven’t bounced back as predicted. I’m not sure Melbourne will either.
I think there’s more to it than just the draw, personally. Their actual level of football is just so much worse this year.
Goodwin says he has all confidence in the players and the group!!!!!!
Is he trippin, without Gawn they would be on par with the goldies
The plan was to trade out Cameron and Westhoff to bring in Dunkley and a rookie. However might now be wise to keep Westhoff with Gawn going off late with a tight hammy.
TU – Dunkley in, Westhoff out
TD – Greene in, Westhoff kept
Ouch….so glad I have one trade left if I make Granny.
There is absolutely nothing about Melbourne that could lead you to believe they will make the 8 next year. They have been disgraceful and the coach has either lost the players or has zero idea about the modern game. Good players have gone backwards at a million miles an hour.
The one thing they do have in their favour is that their list is in good shape, both talent-wise and demographically (although given their inability to take a mark inside 50 this year, they probably shouldn’t have traded Jesse Hogan.)
But Einstein’s quip about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result also comes to mind. They need to change their gameplan. Their two biggest problems as far as I can tell are pressure and ball movement. Being bad at both of these things is an indictment in and of itself – it’s one thing to sacrifice one to benefit the other, but there is no excuse to not be able to do either. As I was watching last night, I was thinking about what I would change if I was coaching them. The short answer was “a lot”, but the first thing I would change would be to make them play an honest, accountable, one-on-one style. They’re trying to play a zone at the moment, and they’re rubbish at it. The number of times I saw Demons players guarding grass, and a Swans player take an uncontested mark within a couple of metres of them, was simply appalling. For a zone to work, the players need to be able to defend against opponents who come into their area. These players seem to genuinely have no idea how to do that.
How’s the way Lloyd played on from full back, handballed to a moving Rampe who then roosted it to the wing where Syd either marked it or scrambled it to half fwd. You would think after the 12th time in a row the Melb brains trust might have put a stop to it. These coaches get way too much credit. They aren’t delicate geniuses.
you make a good point
haven’t seen many D’s games this year
& didn’t see this one due to work
maybe Goodwin is trying to get them to play above their skill level
Roosy was a very Gordon Ramsey type of coach there
took them back to basics & got them to do them well
seemed to work ok
With VC Gawn a bust, I need to decide on a captain.
Ruling out Cripps because of Steele. Same with Dunkley/Macrae, either might get De Boer and GWS are hard to score against anyway. ROB and Sauce to double team Grundy, so a line through him as well.
Thinking either:
T.U: Fyfe
T.D: Whitfield
Comment: Neale/reconsider one of the options I ruled out
Fyfe just goes large doesn’t he?
No real match up for him.
Is everyone ruling out Gawn for the sake of a possible 10-20 points? I will be taking his score if I feel I am slightly in front after today’s games
Totally agree Disco…I still have Macrae,Bont,Dunks to put c on but with my nose in front, its too risky for the extra pts. Yeo 150 by 3/4 time would be nice.
Steele doesn’t seem to have bothered Cripps much in the past. Also, have you considered Dangerfield?
Think the Brisbane MIDs will get on top of the Cats.
N Fyfe:
At Optus since 2018: 12/17 120+
Optus Wins since 2018: 9/10 120+
Frustrated Lycett owner, and want Hinkley gone because of it? Sign the petition!

Is anyone considering taking Gawn’s score as captain? I’m only playing for leagues (like pretty much everyone) and if i am ahead of my opponent, and he captains Gawn, i will just play it safe and take his score.
my opponent went Gawn C 1st game
grundy for me
every time i go someone else i get burned
Why isn’t anyone captaining Grundy? He got doubled teamed by Mumford and Simpson. Both of them walked out with a sore ass and sore knees. Grundy will win the majority of the hitours and nothing can stop him tackling and winning the hard ball against his 2020 club of choice.
Pyke said they were going to double team him, which includes a tag outside of stoppages. Also, Sauce and ROB are a far more competent duo than Mumford and Simpson.
He’ll probably still win a majority of the hitouts, but it will likely be a slimmer majority than usual.
Need a Jeremy Cameron replacement
TU Marshall/ Robinson
TD Greene/Worpel
Gawn to miss next week?
This is not the Adam that provides the captaincy projections articles.
According to Goodwin, it was just hamstring tightness. The game was well and truly over anyway, so no point risking him. He should be fine for next week.
Who to put the C on:
T/U – Cripps
T/D – Fyfe
trade Ainsworth D6
or hold a trade for the GF
T/U worpedo
T/D robinson
Which one to trade out
TU= D Clarke (omitted this week – will he be back in next week or done?)
TD=Bewley
Clarke obviously gives me more cash for next week, if I make the GF, which could be handy for the last week I’ll have left.
3 trades left, $138k in the bank.
DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, ZWilliams, Crisp, B Smith, Sicily (Birchall/Gardner)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Bont, Neale, BCrouch, M Crouch, Jelly (Hind, D Clarke, Hill)
RCK: Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
FWD: Danger, Dunkley, Kelly, Marshall, Heeney, Lycett (Chol, R Young)
Any ideas at all here gents?? Obviously one trade for Lycett to Greene/Worpel but unsure whether to use the other to upgrade a weak spot in defence(Crisp or Smith) or weaker midfielder(B Crouch) to a Treloar?
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thinking to take Answerth’s 87
Who to bench?
T/U – Hurn
T/D – Sicily
Comment – leave it be :-/
Thanks SCz
Im going to do the same with Sicily. It’s a risk but defenders don’t always go as well against GC as the ball is up.the other end! Here’s hoping anyway
Have 454k and need a FWD playing today. Thinking either Titch Edwards or Wingard.
TU: Titch against Eagles but 3 round average of 112
TD: Wingard against Suns but hasn’t scored a ton all year
Wingard is the type of Cat to beat up on a team like the Suns
Got a dilemma. It comes down to today.
I’m down by 190 points. I have Hurn, Houli, Bont & Dunkley. They have Hunter, Whitfield & Sicily.
Potentially I could use the bench score of answerth (87) for Hurn. Have one trade left but can only really trade Hurn>Sicily or Houli>Whitfield so no other POD is a reality unfortunately.
We both had Fyfe as C.
What to do?
Projected to win by 80 but not confident! Have 2 trades and $64k
PODs to oppo left are:
Me – Taranto, Gaff & Houli
Oppo – Hurn & Wingard
Thinking of trading Taranto to Yeo or Worpedo.
Opinions please
Or J. Kelly
Hey coaches I’m predicted to get beat by 60.
I have two PODS remaining . Greene and houli.
Opp has darling, hurn, Williams and sheed.
I am thinking of a hail Mary.
Sicily out and either worpel or jelly in .
Or just getting edwards as cover and loop holing if he somehow gets 150 again.
Any other sneaky desperate plays today? Ideally I need a pod to score 150. Not asking alot really :/
By taking Sicily out I can take Answorths score. I would put my season on Jellys shoulders but just don’t know about first game back.
And can worpel score 150 plus ?
I have 2 trades and 70k
Update. It’s a miracle on grass.
Houli 145….and sheed spudded up. I win by 8
Hurn into Vlastuin for a mid round POD? Or will Hurn head towards 100?
TU: Keep Hurn
TD: Vlastuin
How would you rank these guys on how much they will score today
Houli
Williams
Sicily
Hurn
Don’t know whether to even up uniques with 1 trade left…
TIA
Williams
Houli
Sicily
Hurn
Same boat as you. I’m thinking Hurn in Vlastuin. He’s got a far better 3 round avg.
Richmond v West Coast
LATE CHANGES
Richmond: Nil
West Coast: Will Schofield replaced in the selected side by Josh Rotham
FINAL INTERCHANGES
Richmond: Jason Castagna, Jack Ross, Mabior Chol, Liam Baker
West Coast: Jack Redden, Oscar Allen, Jack Petruccelle, Josh Rotham
QT. WCE 7.1.43 RICH 3.1.19
Darling 42. Jetta 38. McGovern 37. Allen 33. Yeo 35 Gaff 29 Hurn 28.
Houli 28 Martin 26 Edwards 26 Bolton 26 Astbury 24
West Coast Eagles: 8.2.50 – Richmond Tigers: 6.5.41
Much better quarter by Richmond. Riewoldt was denied a early mark and gave a free kick to Barrass which fired up the predominate Tigers crowd. It sparked Richmond, they kicked the next 4 goals before a another courageous mark and goal by Flyin’ Ryan stopped the momentum. Several horrible shot on goal by Tigers enabled Eagles to hold the lead at the long break. No rain as yet but looks ominous.
I can’t see how anyone beats WC or Rich for the flag
Greater Western Sydney v Western Bulldogs
