      1. The question should be: how long did it take you to VC Dusty? That decision took ages! In the end though, he LOVES us in Round 1. I took a calculated risk and it paid off.

        1. Onya Motts. Now don’t start slackening off. There’s still a bit of room for improvement……..

    1. Congrats Motts.

Not a bad way to start the year eh. There’s another reason to hate the bloody crazy frog though 🙂

    2. Thanks guys. Best ever 1 week result after jagging a few decisions. Fingers crossed I can keep it going.

  1. 2,178 / Gawn/ TBC still in lockout

Overall really happy with my first week. Got lucky avoiding the chaos of Rowell and thankfully dont have danger.

    +3s:
    myself for fielding Gulden, Rowe.
Most of my premos delivering, Dunks Martin Macrae Laird Ridley Stewart Taranto

    -3s:
Not taking the VC on macrae and taking gawn as c
Neale Lloyd Grundy and Gawn but most contenders have majority of those anyway

Not sure where Ill end up in the rankings but got most of my rookies nailed. Jordan night need to come in but not sure about his JS with some big demons coming back.

  2. 1801 – with 21 scoring players.
I also didn’t realise trading players would put them/their replacement back on the bench.
Dusty and Merrett both on the bench fml

    1. Ouch! Lesson learned week 1 hopefully. Every mistake Ive made helps me learn a lesson to not do it next time. If you had 1800 without 2 premos, you must have a pretty good side!

  3. Looks like 2073/Gawn with Rowell on the field and sadly Gulden and Rowe off it. A few little differences and I could have had a 2300 plus game which suggests at least most of the selections are sound.

Lucking out with all of your rookies on the field is hard in any season so not kicking myself too hard.

I did back Flynn so that was a win.

Lloyd’s 98 and Gawn’s 93 were my two failures from Premos.

    13 100’s (2 on bench), 2 90’s.
    6 scores below projected.

Daniher likely to be scrubbed will be used as a donut. Rowell will be traded.

    Typical post round 1 carnage.

      1. Keeping Joe, because I backed 30 scoring players expecting round 1 carnage and I need a donut.

If he’s scrubbed for an extended period I will reassess, of course.

As far as Rowell goes, with the scoring we’ve seen both preseason and in round 1, I’m at this stage I’m tossing up buying another Back (Hunter Clark), and moving Laird to the midfield, although I will look at final scores versus price. Phillips still holds interest for me, as does Stephenson and a few others.

In the end with dpp flexibility what I decide will also involve making sure I get my best rookies on the field next week as well as picking the best replacement, even if that means I grab a cash cow and hold tight a week before truly replacing him.

  4. 2002 / Merrett

Was feeling OK coming into the last game with Gaff and Rowell to play, despite some under-performing premos (like most I’m guessing). Instant karma’s gonna get you.

Mostly happy with my rookie choices, especially my full rookie ruck division, but left some points on the bench not having any loopholes.

  5. 2235 / Dangerfield

Rowe on the bench and refusing to take Macrae’s VC were the two stupid things I did this week and cost me about 100 points; everything else was okay. Waiting for the Danger verdict before considering whether any trades need to be made.

        1. Whats your forward line look like? I think if I had him and hes suspended for 2 Id back my forward rookies to score okay and cover him. If he was a defender though hed be an instant trade

    Overall happy
Avoided Grundy , Neale , Lloyd and Danger to start because of value elsewhere . I think they will rebound .
Traded in Steele from Taranto last minute which looked like a sound move at half time.
Also traded out Danger ( a bit nervous about managed preseason and cameron being out & playing forward ) to Butters ( concerned he may play half forward role) then settled on Bergman to build up a bit of a bank and not miss out on potential good rookie and give me some cash for future .
Only missed Rowe’s score and regret not bringing in Jordon .

  7. 2023 – Merrett
Gulden and Rowe on the bench.
Rowell looks like needs to be traded.
Taranto maybe , I liked what I saw of Bailey Smith , Hunter is a possibility?

    Pretty good start.
Have Danger but don’t have Rowell. Flynn at R2 was a big tick along with putting the VC on Dusty Thursday night.
Left 100 points on the bench by not fielding Gulden or Jordon but you can’t get everything right.
    Bring on round 2!

Well not quite what I wanted but I’ve seen way lower days ^^
Gawn, Grundy, Cripps and Neale were disappointing, also Rowe and Flynn on the bench.
Pretty happy that I only had L.Jones not playing on my bench.
Probably I’ll hold fire with trades till I work out a loophole option, I feel like keeping all my above mentioned premos, only one I’m not too sure is actually Cripps. I just don’t think he’ll be big this year but I’ll watch one more game before pulling the trigger.
Obviously I was ready to rage trade him and Gawn for Dusty and any ruc rookie, but I’m fooling myself with the promise that this year I won’t do any panic trading…

Poor move bringing in a loophole to take Jordon’s score and putting Gulden on bench. Also have Rowell.

    Very happy overall.

Rowell needs to be traded for a keeper since that was the plan for Rowell so lots of thinking to do before R2!

  11. 2,072 / Macrae / 9,203

Not huge, but I’ve had some slow starts over the past two or three seasons, so being around par instead of playing catchup after Round 1 is nice. I had a couple of big rookie scores on the bench (with no ‘E’ on them, so no way to loophole), but that’s Round 1 for you.

Like most people, barring something miraculous, I’m going to have to deal with Rowell this week. Depending on the length of his suspension, I’ll probably have to deal with Dangerfield as well. But I don’t think any other major problems have cropped up yet, so that’s a good sign.

Very happy with the first round. Would have liked to have jordens 70 but benched him but did have rowe and gulden. Avoided rowell. However didn’t have flynn.

    Tu get in flynn now
Td it was only one game wait till next week

  16. 2068 / Dangerfield

Could’ve been worse, but luckily I had Rowe, and Gulden on field which kept my score respectable-ish. Kicking myself over a few moves I nearly made, but didn’t, like Neale to Titch, and Danger to Dusty but the $$$ I would’ve saved from those moves likely would’ve been spent on Rowell. If Danger is suspended for more than one match, I’m thinking I’ll go him to Titch and ride the rookie depth in the forward line or try to do some kind off DPP thing like Danger and Daniher to Walsh and Young or something. Or just be sensible and hop on the Dusty train.

Happy enough. Bont VC into Gawn C didn’t work. Gulden on the bench. Flynn, Rowe & Jordan on field. I don’t have Rowell and I guess it’s wait and see on Dangerfield.

  18. 1887/Gawn

Pros: Laird, Daniel, Fantasia, Merrett, Macrae, Rowe, Clark, Zorko, Ziebell

Duds: Crisp, Grundy, Gawn, Me for not taking Macrae as VC, Danger, Rowell, Steele, Me for Brockman on field instead of Gulden.

Really not sure where to go from here, with Goodwin being a spanner and not having Max rest behind the ball where he’s brilliant it looks like he might not be able to hit his lofty heights of the past 2-3 seasons. Grundy seemed poor against the Dogs, Rowell will need to go, not sure to who though as with cash on hand I’ll have about 500K max to spend on him. Danger I can cover with scoring rookies for the next couple of weeks as I’ve been burnt one time too many with Dusty in the past. Grundy is a concern and I might trade him into Draper depending on how he goes next week. Thoughts?

Heroes were Mills, Gulden, Brayshaw, Walsh. Was only let down by my top premos in Gawn (C), Grundy, Neale and Bont, and I’m backing them to bounce back.

Think my team is in a good spot, my riskier picks eg. Mills all on track, and no Danger/Rowell to worry about. Only trades I’m considering are some rookie swaps next week but will definitely be waiting another round to make any moves.

This is a fantastic site with so much solid info – long time reader first time poster.
Happy with all rookie sections, Ridley & Brayshaw both off to a good start.
I kept some money in the bank and can turn Danger/Green into Dusty/Walsh
    TU: do it
    TD: save my trades

    1. Use the trades to stay up with the top ranked players. When you’re within 130 points of 1st place, you don’t want to let that slide as it doesn’t happen every year.

  21. Posting a little late, but was carried away by Motts’ #2 OA finish!

    2027/Gawn/17127

Lot of my top end premos went a little quiet but I straight fielded Gulden and Rowe, so I shouldn’t complain. Just have to figure out what to do with Danger this week.

  22. 1896 / Gawn / 54 920

Defence was tops. Mills the highlight.
Midfield terrible. Not a single century. Gulden on bench.
Rucks 🙁 ( Gawns last quarter saved some face )
Forward. Mixed Bag. Ziebell tick. Warner benched for Bergman.
    Rowe awesome.

    Regrets…
On Sunday morning I nearly sacked Rowell for H Clark to get Guldens score. ( I would of dropped Highmore for A fyfe )

Thought better as the thumbs reminded me I didn’t need two loopholes. I really should of followed my gut. It cost me around 170 points and a trade anyway. Ah well, thats life I spose.

Mills over Lloyd seems to have started well, time will tell.
I still don’t think their differences in average, will be nearly as far as their prices suggest.

What to do with Rowell ? I feel a poll coming on.
    Lucky I kept some cash.
I know I’m not going Taranto.

Most likely one of Walsh / Brayshaw / Cerra or H Clark.

Congrats to Motts and the others with big scores this round.

Back to planning for next week.

So good to have SC back.

  23. How can one possibly post a comment given Motts result !!

For what its worth 1998 with Henry onfield, Flynn/Gulden/Rowe all on bench. As Yazz once sang….the only way is up, baby !!

Lukosious a great pod..reckon a break out year…best kick in afl and he nearly always kicks.

  24. 2,101 with Neale as C (I thought I had Dusty VC, so that one cost me about 80 points).

Good: I have almost all the rookies that performed well and most of my premos / mid-pricers scored around where they should have (aside from Neale and Rowell).

Bad: On-field rookie selections left a lot to be desired, with both Rowe and Gulden on the bench (cost me about 130 points there).

Ugly: Rowell and Dangerfield, which means I’ll probably have to use two trades this round.

Not such a bad round 1 score Gawndy, Neale’s output hurt and Rowe benched

    Studs:

    Oliver
    Gulden
    Jordan
    Dunkley
    Ziebell

    Duds:
    Neale
    Gawn
    Grundy
