Darcy Parish and Jayden Laverde playing VFL this weekend.

Elijah Tsatas (broken hand) and Archie Perkins (quad strain) will see the pair miss this week, with both looking to return for Gather Round.

Alwyn Davey Jnr made a successful return from a meniscus injury in the VFL side’s win over the weekend and pulled up well.

Fremantle

Sean Darcy and Hayden Young are both expected to play footy next week.

HP manager Phil Merriman on Darcy: “He’s pretty excited. He will be out on Thursday for full training, with the plan to be playing footy next week.”

Brandon Walker‘s return not yet confirmed, is consulting specialists after dislocating his shoulder.

Sam Switkowski (groin) and Michael Walters (knee) continue their recovery from injury.

“It’s going to plan (for Switkowski), and again, he will be available the following round.”

“He (Walters) is still in a period of de-loading and the plan is to start reloading him next week.

“It will be roughly a two to three-week build in the football program (for Walters).”

Charlie Nicholls,  back injury.

“Excitingly, we’ve had some good scan results,” Merriman said.

“You will see him out on the training track and we will graduate his football loads up over the next month.”

Geelong

Tom Stewart Knee, Test

Scans on Monday morning have ruled out of any serious injury to Tom’s right knee. With one more session before we head to Brisbane, Tom will be closely monitored before making a call at selection.

Bailey Smith Calf, Test

Bailey was a late withdrawal ahead of the Saints game after experiencing calf soreness. We took a conservative approach and will continue to monitor Bailey throughout the week before we make a call on his availability.

Jack Martin Management, Test

Jack reported low level calf tightness during the pre-game VFL warmup on Sunday against Sandringham. The Club took the cautious approach to withdraw him and Jack will be a test to be play in Saturday’s VFL against Northern Bullants at GMHBA Stadium.

Lenny Hofmann Back, Indefinite

Lenny has experienced increasing back symptoms, and a scan has shown low-grade bone stress. We will take a conservative approach with Lenny, with the aim to see him return in the second half of the season.

Gold Coast

Mac Andrew (chest) and Sam Flanders (back) are both a test for this week.

Charlie Ballard, who has been ruled out for the remainder of 2025 with an ACL injury, will undergo surgery today.

GWS

Jake Stringer and Jesse Hogan could both play their first game of the season in this Saturday. Both will need to get through Thursday’s main training to put their names forward for selection this week.

Kieren Briggs is expected to return

Ryan Angwin (ankle) and Josh Fahey (foot) continue to progress in their respective rehabilitation, with the duo on track to return to modified team training next week.

Ollie Hannaford underwent surgery for a broken wrist last week.

Hawthorn

Jack Scrimshaw (concussion) – 1 week

“He’s coming good and coming out of the concussion protocols. He’s resuming some non-contact training later in the week. He’s obviously serving a suspension as well so it’s given us a chance to go back and put some conditioning and some work into him and work on some physical qualities in his training as well. So whilst naturally disappointing he’s not playing, there’s an opportunity for us to really build on some other things in his training.”

Connor Macdonald (ankle) – 2 – 3 weeks

“He’s got an ankle syndesmosis injury. Everyone hates that dreaded word but it’s on the minor end, so we think this will turn around quite quickly. He won’t be playing this weekend but at this stage, we’re hoping that he’ll be in a position potentially to play after our bye in Round 5, but we’ll need another week or so just to see how that progresses. But at this stage, either Round 5 or Round 6.”

James Worpel (ankle) – 2 – 3 weeks

“He’s progressing really well. We’ve had two running sessions now, straight-line running sessions, and it looks promising. So he’s not available this week, obviously, but we are also aiming for either the Round 5 or Round 6 games after the bye. There’s a 15-day break between our game against GWS this weekend and the Gather Round game, so quite a significant amount of time for us to get quite a bit of work in and progression.”

James Blanck (knee) – 2 – 3 weeks

“He’s doing full training. We’re targeting the weekend of Round 5, which is the Gather Round weekend. There is a VFL bye that weekend, I think there’s a State game, but we’ve organised a scrimmage practice match with Essendon VFL, so a shortened game scrimmage, and we’re hoping to have him playing some minutes in that game, which would be fantastic. That’s still a couple of weeks away, and we’ve still got more training sessions to do, but he’s participating in everything so it’s good for him and great for us.”

Sam Butler (leg) – 2 -3 weeks

“Yeah, we’ve got some more clarity now. He’s had a really good last couple of weeks of conditioning and agility work. He’s really stepped up his intensity. He started training with the group again on Monday with some skill work and a couple of drills and that’s gone really well. So now it’s about progressing his drills. We’re targeting probably around Round 5 or Round 6 of the VFL as a potential return-to-play, tentatively. We’ve pencilled that one in, but you know, we just need to make sure it absolutely goes smoothly from here, and if it does, those timelines will become more realistic.”

Calsher Dear (back) – TBC

“He’s really good and training really well. He’s starting to get a little bit of work in and we’re actually due to have his next scan towards the end of next week so it’s come around quite quickly. We’re hoping that in two weeks time, he would be able to resume some low-level football skills and we’re progressing, at the moment, with some skill work. We’re certainly progressing his conditioning levels and speed and agility, but that next scan will determine if he can resume back in with the group. So that’s exciting, and it’s going to come around quite quickly, so we’re looking forward to that, but so far so good.”

Mitch Lewis (knee) – TBC

“Mitch Lewis is training really, really well. He’s hitting some great speeds at training. We’ve done a lot of work on his mechanics and his movement off the back of the trip overseas. So the plan for Mitch is there’s a certain amount of time that we just have to take with the graft and the graft taking within the body and the knee and that healing time. So whilst he is looking amazing at the moment with his training, there is just a certain amount of time we have to take with his conditioning and progression back into skills. But his progression back into skills will happen over the next few weeks, and then there’ll be a period of time of skills that we’re just going to have to use and to take until we determine what that final sort of return-to-play time is, which we won’t talk about that now, not looking at that right now, but it’s in the back of our planning. We do have a rough sketch of it, but we can talk to that more in the coming weeks.”

Melbourne

Steven May Test

“Steven saw the specialist on Saturday, and they were really happy with how he has recovered,” High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said.

“The advice was that they’d be comfortable with him integrating into some training this week.

“He’ll look to main train on Thursday and then we’ll determine his return to play from that session.”

Jake Lever will also need to successfully complete training this week to be available for Round 3.

“Jake rolled his ankle just before three quarter time. He was able to get back out on the field and continue to play but then rolled it again close to the end of the game,” Griffith said.

“With a short turnaround, it’s just about managing that ankle from a swelling and function perspective, and we’ll look to progress him each day, with the hope for him to be available this week.”

Matt Jefferson

“Unfortunately for Matt in that collision he fractured one of the bones in his hand. He had a consult with the surgeon yesterday and has had surgery today,” Griffith said.

“He’ll progress as quickly as the wound healing allows. We’ve dealt with some of those injuries in the past, so hopefully we’ll see Matt back on the training track soon.”

Jake Melksham

“He’s had a great couple of weeks of training, both with intent and purpose,” Griffith said.

“He’ll integrate into main training this week with the look to be available for this weekend’s game”

Caleb Windsor will remain on the sidelines for Round 3 as he continues to manage an infection to his foot.

“Unfortunately for Caleb he spent a little bit of time in hospital with that infection,” Griffith said.

“Now it’s all about the wound healing component. It’s unlikely he’ll be available for this weekend, but we’ll continue to progress him each day as his pain and function tolerates.”

Marty Hore has been sidelined again with a calf injury sustained during the VFL on Sunday.

“Unfortunately for Marty in the last quarter he went to push off and felt pain in his calf. He’s got a high-grade gastrocnemius strain,” Griffith said.

“Once he starts to recover and function has improved, we’ll have more of a framework on his return in the coming days.”

Jai Culley Bone stress in foot.

“Jai’s returned to some straight line running this week and he’ll get a little bit of skills in too,” Griffith said.

“We’ll look to progress him over the coming weeks’ time to fully be available in the next week or so.”

Judd McVee (hamstring), Koltyn Tholstrup (back), Luker Kentfield (illness), Shane McAdam (Achilles) and Andy Moniz-Wakefield (knee) are all continuing to complete their respective rehab programs.

North Melbourne

Griffin Logue minor hamstring strain has to pass a fitness test

George Wardlaw‘s recovery from a hamstring injury is progressing well after “a really strong week”, White said.

Wardlaw joined select training drills with the main group of players before completing a high-loading football conditioning session at Arden Street on Sunday morning.

In the next two weeks, the young onballer will look to train in full with the main group, while also undertaking game-loading conditioning to set up a strong base for an eventual return to action. 2-3 weeks

Callum Coleman-Jones (Achilles) is building his running loads while continuing to tackle his calf strength work in the gym. His return remains slated for around May-June.

Brayden George (knee) is tracking well as he builds his training loads while working on his agility deficiencies before an offsite re-test in a few weeks.

“If he passes through this, he will enter main group training unrestricted and complete game-loading footy conditioning sessions for three-to-four weeks in preparation for his return,”

Richmond

Sam Banks Concussion, 1 week

“Sam will go through the standard return to play protocol.”

“Not only does he have to deal with a concussion, but he also took five or seven stitches to the head as well.”

“Hopefully he will be back playing in our game against Brisbane in a couple of weeks.”

Maurice Rioli Hamstring, Test

“Maurice sustained a small hamstring injury last week and whilst we thought he would be ok to play on the weekend, we thought we would be conservative.”

“He will be a test for this week and hopefully get some game time in this round.”

Josh Smillie Hamstring, Test

“Smillie has done a great body of work over the last few weeks and he’s training quite well.”

“He will be a test on the back end of the week, but make no mistake if we don’t think he is ready to go, we will look after him a little bit more.”

“He is certainly doing a lot of fast running and is in a great position.”

Hugo Ralphsmith Hamstring, 1-3 weeks

“Hugo is in a great position as well and we could probably see how he goes this weekend.”

“But again, we want to look after him and we will look after him a little bit longer because if we don’t have to rush anything, we won’t.”

Dion Prestia Achilles, 3-4 weeks

“No real change to Dion at the moment.”

“He will just keep pressing on with his rehab and we will look at him in about 3-4 weeks time.”

WCE

Jack Graham

“Jack presented with some hip joint soreness on Friday last week and we gave him every chance to play on Sunday but he didn’t quite get up,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness

“The plan is for him to train this Thursday and if he gets through he will be available this weekend.”

Jake Waterman

Waterman was ruled out of round two after battling a back-related calf issue.

“Jake trained with the main group today which is good news. He still has a few boxes to tick prior to being available, so is a test for this weekend,” Inness said.

Coen Livingstone will be available this weekend after exiting concussion protocols.

Jack Hutchinson (hamstring) and Callum Jamieson (knee/ankle) are progressing into training drills following their respective injuries.

“Jack has started to integrate into the lower level drills after his hamstring strain. He is still a few weeks away from returning to play, but is ticking every box we are asking of him to date,” Inness said.

“Cal Jamieson is integrating back into drills. Due to him missing all of pre-season, he is now in a reconditioning phase, but we are hopeful of seeing him back on the field in the next month or so.”

Campbell Chesser’s return date is yet to be determined following ankle surgery.

“We are continuing to assess Campbell for a return-to-play timeline after his ankle surgery and we should have more clarity on that next week,” Inness said.

Western Bulldogs

Liam Jones and James O’Donnell remain likely inclusions.

The pair will be required to train in full on Wednesday before being deemed available for senior selection.

Adam Treloar has suffered a calf setback over the weekend and will spend more time on the sidelines.

“Adam has been building the continuity in his training across the last six weeks following an injury interrupted December and January period,” Bell said.

“Unfortunately, Adam has suffered some calf symptoms following Friday’s training session.”

“This will delay his return-to-play plan, with the Club to confirm his new timeline in coming days.”
