In need of a solid downgrade option this week in the mids or forward line. I was planning on bringing in Hosie, thankfully I held my trade till team announcements. Have no problem with bench cover this week, so should I bring in Wicks this week and target Woodcock next week? Or is there a better rookie to get this week and then Wicks next week? Please help!
I’d be holding Gawn even without cover, but you’ve got Draper – so it’s fine.
Usually I’d also say hold fat on Viney, but with that extra 10th trade (most have 9) and 98k itb you could look to bring in Titch or Fyfe. Both coming fresh off the bye and will comfortably put Viney away for points OA.
Most have 9, I’ve still got 16 so should I start using trades even sideways ones for players who are missing through injury. Such as Viney. 3 Rooks still on field when everyone’s playing.
Tu- Start Trading now.
Td- Keep being a tight a55.
I have cover for those missing this week but it’s not strong.
After 2 trades this week will have 9 left & just $5K in bank
How vital are this week’s downgrade options?
Don’t wanna burn trades, but still need the cash gen..
TU- Save the trades! Season’s too unpredictable to be caught short
TD – Build the bank! Bennell to Schoenberg (or similar)
Really haven’t spent too much time looking at the fixture/byes etc
Will the SC finals be full of bye rounds?
When are the teams with byes in hand predicted to have theirs??
Really considering trading Gawn.. not sure of the extend of the injury and if he’ll be back for the next game and if he does whether he’ll score at his optimum..Also want to get Cripps this week
Tu: Gawn/Brander/TBrown > Goldstein/ Cripps/ Schoenberg.. 8 trades left 4 premo upgrades left
I have 13 trades left thinking of trading out Viney I have 560k (includes Viney )
But to who ? Thought of Andrew Brayshaw. or Walters open to suggestions
Thanks again
TU do the trade sort it out
TD hold fire till next round
Brayshaw under an injury cloud and Walters too injury prone for my liking. Shuey is great value at the moment, or Merrett as they’ve both had their byes, or else M Duncan or T Adams come to mind. But the fact that Viney will only miss a week, and playing for Melb also means that he doesn’t have a bye to come, I’d be more included to bench him this week. After all, its only top 18 players that count this round.
Glad the Viney/Gawn news came in before the tigers game yesterday – was a millisecond away from trading out Picket (even though he scored woefully).
Plans now are:
Out – Treloar, Viney, Bennel
In – fyfe, Mitchell, Schoenberg
Realise Viney will only miss one, but breakeven is climbing (124) and I don’t see him as a keeper… so if not now, when??
If I can only choose one to bring in this week. I know titch is finally rounding into form but simpkin is just so enticingly cheap for the picking….

Need to make one trade today to bring in a new rookie for cash generation (either Ruscoe/Schoenberg or Wicks – his bye this week doesn’t matter). But I’m torn with which one to trade out
TU: One of either Budarick or Close (who may be dropped), both M/F swings and only need one, so probably Buarick is better option as better JS? OR
TD: D Cameron – not in the Pies side at this stage, have him sitting at F7/8 and since trading in Draper as R3, he’s no real use to me, as can’t swing him back in R3 anyway.
Have a dilemma whether or not to trade out Gawn for Goldstein. Currently have 12 trades left and mainly playing for cash leagues but the extra cash could be handy.
Is Oliver too expensive to bring it at 667k? I realise that his 205 will keep his BE attainable for now but after that, he’s going to drop. Tossing up between him or Titch.
TU: Bring him in
TD: Wait til he drops , grab Titch.
I am unaware of any injuries to McPherson. Not on Crows injury list as of Friday, August 7.
He was managed last game due to the short turnaround in games.
Does anyone know what time teams are announced for the Collingwood v Crows game on Tuesday night? If Darcy Cameron isn’t playing I’ll trade him out for Bytel, but will hold him for another week if he’s playing. The St Kilda game is at 6.10pm though so don’t know if Tuesday teams will be out by then??
Took a gamble on trading out Bennell and Simpson for Titch and Schoenberg.
The call for Simpson went well as he was being managed, but still unclear with Schoenberg.
Could have gone Harrison Jones for Hawks, but was unsure whether he would be named when making the trades.
He was, so now I hope Schoenberg is named, so I don’t get punished.
Any idea on the double emergency during the byes? Generally during normal rounds it will take the lowest of the two scores, but during the byes it takes the 18 highest scores.I have Close on my bench and can make him an emergency or I can swap him on fields for Whitfield but that would mean I would have to take his score, I have Georgieardis on the bench as an emergency and if I make close also an emergency can I have the option of getting the higher of the two scores?
“BEST 18 SCORING: During the multi-bye Rounds 10 and 11, your team scores points from your Best 18 players (top 18 scores) selected in your Starting 22 only, from any position (including any Emergencies required).”
Thanks Gra Pol, I think I’ll take one for the team at SC talk and test it, I’ll get back to the community and let you know the results, it may be a hidden loophole that none of us have picked up.
Gra Pol is correct someone asked the question last week & the response back was unlike all other rounds the byes rounds will take the highest of the two emergencies where required
Hynsi, Gra Pol was saying that the lowest of the 2 emergency scores? And you’ve said the highest? The loophole we’re looking for is leaving 2 playing emergencies for 1 playing spot,my take is once there’s an emergency and there’s a spot open they qualify for a top 18 score. I think we’re saying the same thing.
Correct, normal emergency rules apply for determining your on-field 22. Best 18 scores then applied from that 22. I believe it was confirmed by a Herald Sun person on twitter also
I can back that up as i decided to throw the E on Ruscoe after having it on Rivers who got 54. Ruscoes 55 is showing in my head to head tally at the moment.
Kelly is yet to play the crows too… as a general rule of thumb take the best midfielder on the team playing the crows and add 20 to their best score ever and that’s about what they score.
Take Aarts 59 or play Close hoping for a few goals v Sainters?
Have 22 playing and had Picket and Georgiades on field with Schoenberg and W. Day to play (as the predicted lowest scores barring a D. Smith clanger)
Confused ? If l have Kelly and Whitfield on ground and put the emergency on all 3 of Mahoney,BUdarick and Schoenberg do l get the 2 highest or lowest scores. Help
It may well be a loophole that hasn’t been detected yet, at this stage it’s taking the higher of the 2 emergencies, so at this stage it’s a goer. Whether it gets adjusted at the end of the round, I’ll let you know. To me if they go highest 18 scores , I’m not sure they can work the algorithm to go against that.
I started calling him Satan Oliver last year after he screwed my team over in a few close league matchups – just a little devil. Works since he plays for the Demons as well.
I’m not that familiar with the Crows’ list but wouldn’t Schoenberg be a quick out once they get BCrouch and Sloane back? I want rookies but not if they’re only going to have 2-3 games.
If you have 22 playing this round, would Rivers’ score likely be in your bottom 4 (I.e not your best 18)?
If so, then I’d run the dice on Sholl since you literally have nothing to lose. If not and you have a few scores sub-54 already then I’d take Rivers.
I’m playing Budarick rather than taking Georgiades score using the same thinking as my worst score on field so far is Bailey Smiths 68 and I have 3 premos and 3 rookies yet to play
Seems like dons/dees catch up is going to be r14, so the disadvantage of having so many in r3 doesn’t help in lead up to SC finals. On the other hand, having lots of dees/dons should help in week 1 of finals if highest score over two games is counted.
SC need to make big calls on when finals will be played, and any additional trades, but probably will wait until final byes are announced and Granny probably still on R17.
If Rd14 is a bye round, which it almost certainly is, then having lots of dons/Dees players is a good thing. Those with lots of premos who haven’t had their bye yet will struggle through the next set of byes, especially if we don’t get more trades allocated. You had one unfortunate round (as you remind us every week). Could be three good bye rounds coming up.
I think you can stop referring to it as a catch up game. 10 clubs still to have byes so it will be an 18 round season, R3 was Ess & Melbs bye. Likely to be (IMO) R14 4 teams have byes, R15 4 teams, R16 2 teams. (maybe R14 6 teams, R15 4 teams? TV rights an issue??)
If so, start of SC finals will be best of 18 unfortunately.
I dont think we’ll have that “highest score over two games” model previously mooted. That was more an idea if they did have that game as a catch up mid week/between 2 normal weekend rounds? Not certain on that tho… we shall see. Come what may, but hey, were lucky to have a SC comp to enjoy
Not much talk about what Laird did last night? Surely he won/lost a lot of matches for coaches. The only way I could lose was for Laird to outscore Brodie Smith by 70.
Now I could handle Smith scrapping a 40 and getting done but 105? C’mon
Apologies for the double up (posted this n the R11 Teams too). Would appreciate opinions on this:
Have D.Cameron as Emergency stuck on fwd bench. If Wicks is selected for Sydney tonight, do I trade Rankine (currently on field) to Wicks via Whitfield dpp before the GC v Ess game to get Cameron’s 102 on field?
TU: Yes, go for it, lock in 102 score.
TD: No, Rankine could score well plus losing future potential cash gen
TU: Titch
TD: Adams
Will Mcpherson come in this week?
Also what are some cheap DEF rookies with good JS?
Cheers
I think I have these stats correct, but please let me know if you think I’m wrong:

Hi Guys just wanted your opinion:
TU – Treloar and Budarick to Steele and Schoenberg and bank 87k
TD – Treloar and Budarick to Titch and Schoenberg and bank 130k
Looking to pick up a cheaper F6 (I have Simpkin), preferably someone who has had their bye.
T/U – Oscar Allen
T/D – Chad Wingard
Butler or Steven?
Solid options but both are yet to have their byes.
As per CT’s update, Aish and Hill both likely to return for Freo.
Does that put a line through trading Watson in blind?
T.U: Yes, too risky given two established DEFs are returning.
T.D: No, they’ll give him a run.
Was looking at bringing Watson in for Starce this week too, but this changes things.
Sholl is probably the next best option in DEF, but I’m not sold on his JS either with Nicks’ selection. Revolving door at the moment.

Cameron was dropped last week and Grundy subsequently showed he doesn’t need the back up anymore, so I doubt he returns.
Schoenberg was decent on debut and the Crows have been rotating defenders more than MIDs, so he should hold.

I don’t believe so. I think you get the lowest score of the two then the best 18 on field.
The emergency rules get applied
Then it picks your best 18.
“BEST 18 SCORING: During the multi-bye Rounds 10 and 11, your team scores points from your Best 18 players (top 18 scores) selected in your Starting 22 only, from any position (including any Emergencies required).”

Playing in a close match up in my cash league this week.
I have Josh Kelly on the pine. If I trade him sideways to a premo, I’ll probably get over the line. If I hold I’ll probably lose.
Trading kelly to say, an Adams, also nets some cash. Obviously it also burns a trade, and gets rid of a player who has had the bye for one who hasn’t.
I am also a little worried Kelly could be managed at anytime given his injury history.

I’m of the opinion that the rules state you get the lowest score/s.
A general query, and I hope I am not making a fool of myself…..why is Oliver called “Satan”
Always thought it was a combination of playing for the dees and his tendancy to just ton up 4 games then go for close to 200.
Him and Kelly tend to post a couple of big scores each season and boost their average.
Rhymes with Clayton.
And he plays for the Demons
Lol.
I started calling him Satan Oliver last year after he screwed my team over in a few close league matchups – just a little devil. Works since he plays for the Demons as well.

I’m playing Budarick rather than taking Georgiades score using the same thinking as my worst score on field so far is Bailey Smiths 68 and I have 3 premos and 3 rookies yet to play
Yep that’s where I’m at. I just don’t know anything about Sholl. Think I will roll the dice on him. Cheers
Ayyyyy! Good to see it paid off too! Nice one
Bringing in Haynes next round.
Who to u upgrade
TU: Doedee
TD: Docherty
Doedee now he’s injured
Seems like dons/dees catch up is going to be r14, so the disadvantage of having so many in r3 doesn’t help in lead up to SC finals. On the other hand, having lots of dees/dons should help in week 1 of finals if highest score over two games is counted.
SC need to make big calls on when finals will be played, and any additional trades, but probably will wait until final byes are announced and Granny probably still on R17.
Thoughts ?
If Rd14 is a bye round, which it almost certainly is, then having lots of dons/Dees players is a good thing. Those with lots of premos who haven’t had their bye yet will struggle through the next set of byes, especially if we don’t get more trades allocated. You had one unfortunate round (as you remind us every week). Could be three good bye rounds coming up.
It was very unfortunate RIYP….right up there with my ex mother in law coming for a week-end and staying a year !!!
Optimism Wighty, there’s always someone worse off,……..
my dad had his from after the wedding….
Ooooooooooh…..bet he didn’t see that coming.
Great questions Wighty.
It’s all very up in the air like the entire season.
My guess is we’ll get 0-2 more trades. I’m leaning towards zero but anyones guess.
I think they’ll be a round 18 and that will be the grand final.
Again, all just guesses and speculation on my behalf.
Anyone else expecting Grundy to be a late withdrawal V Adelaide?
Big game v a fresh Gawn this Sat… tempting to rest vs bottom side?
Assuming Grundy plays, loophole Oliver’s VC score of 137 or plonk the C on Grundy?
T/U Take Oliver’s 137
T/D Grundy will beat 137
…….so in theory, we dump all our emergencies for 102k names,
then work on having 18 premiums (min) in order of byes already played……..
TU YEP
TD What are you rambling on about now – that was the plan from RD 1
Kind of… might not be a bad idea to keep some bench cover for the final 2 rounds… unless you expect to still have 2-4 spare trades up your sleeve.
Can only field one tonight:
TU – Dev Smith
TD – Rankine
Not much in it, i voted Rankine based on Suns should comfortably win.
Many thanks!
