Most Traded : Round 16

Most Traded

I think we all knew that round 16 was going to cause a certain amount of grief due to the high ownership of players from those four bye teams. It hits me particularly hard as I (semi) planned to play the minimum after playing a full 23 in round 14. Unfortunately, that flopped as most of my premos thought it was actually the bye, so the planned round 14/16 trade off failed and now with Carroll being dumped as a reaction to the scapegoat world, and Pedlar being a test, I could be down to 16 this week.

Trading will be a test, juggling minimum trades and lack of serious options, many of us will forced to try and fill a side rather than settling on the premo we really want, except for the 11k coaches who still managed to sneak the Bont and Naicos in this week.

Traded OUT

Angus Clarke is pretty logical, and most hoped he would carry them through his bye round. His BE of 34 could see him make a few more grand but probably best to sell and use the funds. Zak Johnston is more interesting. On the same bye but with a break even of 14 there is potential for a fair bit more cash gen to keep premos in sight later when it hits the fan, and it always does. Also, has a SC friendly role that he’s playing well, and looks to be in future plans, so if you can find another way, I would keep him as a useful “E” for down the track.

Matt Carroll has been Vossed in an overreaction to mediocrity. He has been upwardly progressing as time goes on, his kicking to position is on the improve and with a BE of -8 was a useful SC player, at least for this week for people relying on that extra warm body.

At number 4, Lachie Whitfield is a surprise trade out by nearly 6,000 coaches. Whilst concussion protocols will sideline him for potentially a week, that week is his bye anyway. Factoring in his three round average of 80 might be the swayer, but bear in mind one of those three was a sub affected 16, and the one before was 140. Those thinking sideways to someone they don’t have to cover his score may do OK this week , but will miss potential huge points in the immediate rounds after the bye. As the fourth ranked defender (the top three are all on their bye), you will be dropping downwards for the run home.  He scored 148 against WC last year and has a high of 134 against them at Optus, as well as 137 and 146 against the Cats and Bombers respectively, his next three. If it was me, I’d be holding.

At number five Lachie Neale is a bit different. His three round ave of 89 is not sub affected, and he doesn’t seem to shake a tag as well as some. Trading him for points this week is acceptable as your sideways trade has more potential upside considering he is the 14th ranked mid right now. For not a lot of cash you can move to a top ten. The only caveat I put on this is if you do that sideways trade and it still leaves you a couple of premos short of a full side, then reconsider whether a scoring rookie will serve in the very short term. My take until teams are announced tonight, is using Neale in a one up/one down to the BONT as I already have 22 keepers (hopefully), and playing the minimum 18 this week and getting my 23rd keeper next week.

I was hoping Luke Pedlar passes his test this week to give me one more warm body, but for the rest of you, Peds and the others on the list (Kako, Erasmus, Gray, Hustwaite) are all trade fodder to be used to the best purpose of your team. No argument for hanging onto any of them.

Traded IN

For this section, I’m starting with the better quality players traded IN. Sam Darcy proved a boon to those who jumped on last week, and will still be that guy this week, so not too late to nab him. His BE of 19 and his season average of 102 means he should go close to breaking the half mill barrier this round. The SCG should suit the Doggies style of breaking away from centre, and one kick straight to the hot zone should suit Darcy one out against a not too spectacular Sydney defence. No brainer really!

Callum Mills showed his class last week ( after not showing it by being suspended) with an energetic 121 bringing his BE down to 5 projecting him for a $42k price rise. Despite not capturing the $38k discount you could have gotten last week, he is still under $400k and any player scoring 99 average for that price says “pick me”. Again, not too late to leap on to the Swans skipper and reap some rewards.

The BONT. What can I say. I made the decision to hold for a week and pick him up cheaper due his massive BE of 177 last week. As it turned out, I made the right decision as he dropped $700 in price!!! SC royalty and has to be in any side that is serious about the overall, or ranking, so if you are on the fence, get off and on the The Bont. VC or C every week from here on.

Jack Macrae is a bit more on the expensive side, but still under $500k and scored a super impressive contested 131 against the top side. BE of 72 means he will likely move well over the premo cut off mark against Freo, who, by the way, he loves playing. Scored 160 against them last year and 153 at Optus before that, so there can’t be too many reasons not to bring him in, especially where our forward line is more sketchy than the rest.

Nick Daicos took the wind (hager) out of his tagger’s sails last week with a masterful 157, which after the Bont being dogged  the week before, I never thought would happen. So much so that after Ross the Boss said Nick would be in for attention, I took the “C” off him and put it on Bailey Dale. How’d that work out? But that’s another story. Nick is premium and despite some setbacks along the way, showed that the cream really does rise to the top, and will continue to rise. If you don’t have him, then start looking for ways to get him at some stage.

You will be copping a $22k price rise for buying the Saints half back general, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera but you are still getting value and a three round ave of 120 which is some sort of form. BE is 63 so you still may cop another $20k plus price hike for next round if you wait. $550k for a top six defender is worth doing.

As for the rest, whatever suits your structure as they all have low BE and none seem too much of a stretch if you need to get where you are heading. McCarthy could wait a week if you really need to see an extra score against a top side, but with 60k owners and another potential 20k this week you can be excused the FOMO factor and jump on. Personally, I got him last week but this week I think I prefer the added maturity of the others in the form of Sam Butler. Listed as forward and playing in the midfield says he may be a preferred job security option. Mani Liddy is the cheap playing option, but has yet to reach 100 points in his two games. Is that how many points you need, or is it the price that makes him number one on the list?

Anyhow good luck with your trades this week and may the SC Gods smile upon your selection whitboards.
