Some big news on the injury front yet again. Sam Darcey will affect the structure of the forwards, whilst Sean Darcey’s reoccurring calf could also make some waves in a Luke Jackson direction. And how injury rumour around a superstar can spook people into dumping him.
.
This week was always about choosing one or more of a bucket full of rookies to cull in favour of an upgrade somewhere, unless you are hit with injuries and suspension to muddy your waters.
TRADED OUT
Six of the top ten trade outs are rookies as expected. Which ones are more deserving of the axe will be highly individual due to ownership and structure criteria. I think they have got it right with Jai Serong at the top of the list. Averaging 70 with a BE of 64 has him on the cusp of a slow burn, if at all, from here. Despite a big spike score a couple of weeks ago, and a rock solid role, I don’t think we can gamble on him if he creates a solid pathway to a fallen premo on your radar.
Similarly, Jagga Smith with a BE of 62, has seemingly hit the wall. Disappointing as I think most of us thought he would last at least until the byes, and some probably were eying him to be a solid emergency after some pretty hot early season form. He stays in for me, but warms the bench ahead of a tough match up in the West. I favour Cook and Murdock to score more in my team.
No need to dwell on Deven, has to go so be it when it suits you. As for the other three rookies, Jaques, Grilj and Pou, it. will depend on your more pressing needs. All three should not lose money with respective BE of 49, 53 and 37 but if they lead you to a premo I would not be opposed to any decision in this area. For mine, the Pou has been underwhelming versus the potential and despite the lowest BE of the three, has the potential to stuff up a good score better as well through ordinary disposal efficiency, getting caught with the ball and the odd clanger. His time will come but for a little while yet I believe. Lachie Jaques might be a good bet to get a reprieve due to the Dogs injury woes, and he has shown ability to snag a high score. Sadly the 34 in his system from last week is set to crunch his cash flow unless he gets one of those spike scores. Not much buying power at his price, but It may come down to a positional need considering there are plenty of Def/Mids floating around and it could just be easier to sell someone who will not leave a hole, unlike a forward. Sam Grilj could be that player but might suffer from the lack of experience around him in the short term. He has shown he can rack up a few points at times. Again, as a Def/Mid we make the choice on a position basis. for my poor team I’m keeping both for one more week as I try and find a way to turn Joe Fonti and a lesser light like Carroll or Lombard into a performer.
Tanner Bruhn, for me does not have to go. Averaging 85 on the season and has a BE of 59, so unless he’s your ticket to a super premo I’d consider keeping him a bit longer. With match ups against The Power and The Roos in the next two weeks he’s a chance to at least reach his average. I feel there might be unjust reaction following his mediocre 56 last match, considering he’s come off a 92 and 115 two weeks prior.
The one I would not be selling this week is The Bont. First rule, don’t sideways trade your premos. Second rule, it will be hard to find a sideways trade as good anyway. Is it because there was a little doubt on his knee hyper extension last week, or is it a bit deeper in that without English feeding him, a large source of his points has dried up. I’m backing him to find other scoring avenues to return to the super uber he is,
No need for discussion on Robertson or Budarick. Flick them when it suits.
TRADED IN
Most traded by a whopping 60k more than third are two bubble boys in Angry Anderson and Elijah Tsatas. Anderson, the Jack Oatey medallist from last year’s SANFL granny is mature age and we love that in a bubble boy. Plus he looks the goods in in the Pies side and looks tough as well. Average of 71 and a BE of -75 with a potential cash rise of of $65k would look to be a no brainer. Elijah Tsatas on the other hand ??? If a week is a long time in footy, then a year is sooooo much longer it seems. I’ve still got scars on my fingers from the trade burns of the past couple of seasons. I reckon I traded him in and out half a dozen times for no result. Definition of insanity, right?
However it seems coaches are quick to forgive in a new era of no subs on the bench to debilitate his time on ground. Elijah has been nabbed by 24k coaches who think his two game ave of 91 can give a boost in both scoring and cash gen. BE of -49 will ensure cash gen this week, and ever increasing CBA numbers and TOG should theoretically ensure decent scores to finally see him as an emerging break out after many frustrating years. FYI, the top 1%, top 5% and top 10% of coaches in SC think it’s real as each of these categories has unanimously selected Anderson and Tsatas as their number one and two trade ins this week. I see it but still not sure I can venture there again.
Third most trades with 10k goes to Christaian Petracca. I suspect that is the number of coaches who decided to wait a week to see how the hammy pulled up. Tick. grab him if you can because you are going to want to soon anyway, without factoring a potential price drop due to a 150 BE. Worst case you get him and pick up 120 points and lose about 12k but who else is going to give you that long term.
Strangely, Jordan Clark is a player I have never owned but wish I did when I picked up Tom Stewart a couple of rounds ago. Average of 105 for $524k is good value, but a small caveat is that in three of his next four games, he comes up against sides he only has a career average in the low eighties. Next up, Blues, career average 96. Still think Freo on the march suits him and he will be a value pick up.
If you can afford Bailey Smith, then good on you. I’ve been trying to find a way to get him for weeks but unfortunately have had too many forced outs and have had to look at team balance. For what it’s worth, that hasn’t worked so well. Since opening round’s 67, which doesn’t count anyway, Baz has a low of 118 and a high of 172 with a couple of random 151s thrown in to be the number three ranked player in SC. Plus he does not stop running to anywhere to collect leather. He does not feature in the top percentage of coaches trades but that is probably because he is already in their sides and the reason they got there in the first place.
Patrick Retschko is next on this list after only one game and a pretty reasonable score. Beware going early on the rookie, especially if that rookie is in a Tigers side that is including two more debutants this week. Could be too much to do for too little experience without all the top boys being there.
Kozzy Pickett has a three round average of 109 and is enjoying a new Dees game style in which he is the key player. Previously been a hit and miss kinda guy but now is playing the role with such consistency and constant CBA attendances that you should be able to rely on and take a big sugar hit when he really pops off. Looking at him closely.
Zac Merrett and Luke Parker are only $30k apart, who would have thought? Now they could even be playing similar roles with Merrett down back a lot and even taking kick ins. If that persists, Zac could be a good buy, not that he isn’t anyway. Parker, in wound back the clock mode, still scored 120 despite Cameron Zurhaar’s break out defensive role. It seems any Roo half back is a licence to print money (scores) but how many is too many, really? I like Parker’s role and would back him in ahead of the other Roos.
Jason Horne – Francis rounds out the top ten this week. The Horny one bounced onto the radar with a polished 119 last week against the Hawks and is averaging 94 and has a BE of 81 which should mean his value at under $500k will not last you could assume. I like to look at upcoming match ups as part of my selection process and I would share with you that against the Cats, his next oppo, he only averages 67. Apart from the Showdown after that, he not reached an average over 78 against The Dogs, Suns and Blues, with a career low of just 52 against Gold Coast. Whilst I realise different years and different circumstances could be in play, history generally plays a part in reverting to the normal and that’s why I would be shy on JHF just now.
Again thanks for reading. Please chuck some comments into the section below and generate some discussion on the moves discussed and the moves you intend to make. Coaches find them valuable. Have a great weekend of SC and respect the round and the ANZACs as we should.
Thanks Jimmy.
It’s a simple paint the fence week for me, one up, one down.
Serong and Jagga out for Whitfield and Angry Anderson.
Like you I can’t go anywhere near Tsatas for fear of triggering my PTSD.
Does anyone know why jagga fell off so much?
Blues midfield is all over the place right now, one week he’ll have low TOG, the next he’ll be stuck in the forwardline. I’m giving him another couple of weeks, surely they want their best young mid getting experience in there while they’re not going anywhere this year.
Does anyone know where Round 7 Trades pages has gone?

Thanks Jimmy super info really stuck this week doin the head in trading in Anderson that’s ok which 2 of these 3. Would take 1 Oliver 2 Wanganeen 3 Kossie 4k ITB left is it to early to be greedy
If you are set on two of the three Spike, my order would be
1. NAS
2. Kozzy
3. Clarry
I’d take Kozzy over Clarry mainly because we have options in the Mids but options are limited in the Forward line.
Thanks Jimmy for replying settled for only 1 trade taken NAS enough for Kossy this week & Bailey Smith if he doesn’t explode this week can’t see him dropping $ soon .I will pick him up next week will be paying overs need the points …..looking forward to your suggestion next week cheers
