Surely Danger has no case…he chose to bump not tackle, so the consequences are on his head. This incident is exactly what the rule re the consequences of bumping were designed to eliminate.
Now, if he was Rotten Ronnie, it would be acceptable !!
Rotten Ronnie’s opponent would have got reported and suspended for a week for biting.
I think Jacko quoted something like that once didn’t he???? LOL
Not only that he clearly left his feet to do so.
The 3 weeks may have been a little harsh with a guilty plea but it was “within range” and matched exactly what I called on the night.
What actually surprises me is the MRO actually showing consistency on a “star” player for once.
Penalty IMO should be 1 week for game it occurred in, and 1 week for every game he is deemed unfit to return. (physically, not mentally or selection, coz then it could be rigged.)
And if he never makes it back, does that mean Danger has to retire?
I think you’d have to cap it at some point, but certainly if you’ve destroyed someone else’s career through negligent or violent behaviour there should be serious consequences.
Would you draw the line at sitting out the season? A maximum of 8 weeks?
I dunno.
But certaintly the principle that the opposition team should not be disadvantaged by your negligence makes sense when it’s just two teams.
Making the other 16 teams beneficiaries however makes this far more complex.
Making you have to play for that team as a replacement would be an interesting way to handle it too.
Of course, real world, none of this is going to happen. It’s too complex a principle for judicial systems or even ethicists to come to grips with, let alone the MRO.
Dangerfield has pleaded guilty to rough conduct but will contest the classification of severe impact. He will argue the impact was high.
It is graded severe impact by jury. Looking at least 3 weeks.
Given 3 weeks.
Kayne Turner got reported for a sling tackle during the match and i cannot find any record of what happened to his case. Assume it must have been looked at and thrown out. Seems strange to not get a mention in the MRO’s report for R1 though.
