Poll: Butters

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on May 10 2022

After coming into the season as the breakout forward option, Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters has been far from electric in 2022. He kicked things off with a 114 and 136, great. The next fortnight’s 50s were understandable: an early knock from Powell Pepper cooked him for a 58 and we then let a 57 slide in a pumping against the Dees – fair enough. 130 against the Blues in a gutsy showing and things looked like were back on track. Unfortunately not: 58 against the Eagles at home (like, how do you not ton?), 89 and then a low effort 52. He’s now averaging a paltry 86.8, has spat out 3x 50s and looking flat as f*ck – what are we gonna do?

Should you trade or hold Zak BUTTERS (PTA, $421.4k, 86.8, BE 105)?

Now to who you replace him with. I’ve made this poll assuming everyone has Josh Dunkley (WBD, $601.k, 113.1) and Will Brodie (FREO, $466.6k, 98.6) and that Isaac Heeney (SYD, $511.6k, 108.9) is the obvious replacement option if you don’t already have him.

Who's the best Butters replacement option?

    1. Yep- I’ve swung in Cameron, and profited $60k
Now that he’s main ruck and guaranteed to get extended stay(Grundy out for a while), I’d rather the consistent 100 from Cameron than Butters- he’s looked terrible and Rozee seems to have grabbed his cba’s.
Rage trade done and in last 2 weeks post Grundy- Cameron has averaged over 100.
Small risk as he doesn’t seem to be winning ruck taps- so will pies try someone new?

      1. I agree on Cameron guys.

He gets a sneaky mention in my Rare Gems post this week. Due out first thing Thursday morning.

        1. No, don’t do it. I brought him in last week and he’s supposed to help me make up some ground. If everyone brings him in, that won’t happen! 😉

  1. Tempted to swing McCartin forward and bring in Sicily down back. Still think hold makes the most sense but we’ve got trades to burn this year considering we all 2-3 upgrades from full prem.

  2. I think he gets one last chance against north this weekend. Most his poor performances had some fair reasoning behind them. The game on the weekend was a bad one though, even he admitted that, so hopefully hes hungry and smashes a large score out!

  3. Absolute pretender.

I’ll use him as part of a downgrade to Rioli and store the cash until I get another price break on Macrae/Steele.

  4. Tu) Liberatore
    Td) Heeney

    Thoughts ?
The word “Heeney” sends shivers through my system has burnt me bad for years and last few outings have been ordinary

    1. To be honest I’m gunna need to see 130+ out of him this week for me to keep him. I’ll be going English next week to.

  5. Surely all of those who picked Butters didn’t expect him not to be up and down?? Seen some comments that he’s scoring less than some rookies but the difference is he has a very high ceiling. Yes he’s inconsistent but we’re only 1/3 into the season and I’m sure some big tons will come. Trade him out then when he does , not now. Just my 2 bobs worth. And I own him too!

  7. Hey GD,

Any chance of running a poll on rookies on the bubble this week.?

Finding it hard to split Carroll, Rioli and Hamilton in particular. Some commentary on JS would be great.

  8. “Salted”. Haha – Nice work GD

Need to get Rookies off the field first, will
    then reassess during the byes.

  9. I’m still so conflicted over keeping Butters and I’m not sure I understand why those who own him are planning to keep him. Sure, he will probably dominate against North (although he didn’t against West Coast) and probably won’t lose any money this week but then what happens against Geelong the week after? He may have a high ceiling but he is inconsistent and that’s a lot of money to have on the bench as a loop, and I’m finding it hard to see him as a keeper. If I was to trade him I would trade him to Darcy Cameron but then that too is making me unsure because Cameron is not a keeper himself.

    1. Old school approach to get rookies off the field first as I am not yet full “premo”. I trust his ceiling more than the reliability of a Rosas or Durdin (my current fwd bench).

R12 bye trade out option for me.

      1. I hear you Skipper, but how can you trade him at his Bye ? Anyone you trade him to will miss in the next 2 weeks anyway. You either trade him this week or next or hold through the Byes and use as a last upgrade.

I’m giving him one more week as I need to fix a few rookies and upgrade NOD.

        1. It’s purely bye related – currently have very low numbers for R12 but good numbers for R13+R14.

Ideally will keep through the byes.
