Polls: Bye Bye Bye

Written by The Salamander on May 20 2021

With the byes rapidly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to deal with them, if you haven’t already.

The best place to start is probably to work out how many players in your team are taking the week off in each bye round.

Before you make any trades this week, and excluding anyone who is unlikely to play, how many Round 12 bye players do you have?

Generally speaking, is it better to spend cash to boost your team now, or to hold on to it in order to give yourself maximum flexibility during the byes?

Finally, there are a couple of different schools of thought on bye strategy: the balanced approach, where you try and score as well as possible in each of the three rounds, and the blitzkrieg approach of accepting that you’re going to do poorly in one of the three, and focusing all your energy on doing as well as possible in the other two.

What bye strategy are you going with?

  1. ATM,……(don’t panic, I’m not going to mention any names), based on the current listed availabilities, bye 3 is the one with only 17.

That’s about the only thing still going to plan an’….oh s@#t!!! What did I go and say that for…..

  2. I’ve found that a balanced approach has nearly always given me 3 losses whilst Blitzkrieg just about gurantees me a minimum 2 wins per league….

  3. Usually don’t plan for the byes
    & get smashed in the 1st & 3rd
This year have used a different strategy which has smashed my rank but gives me plenty of $ & trades which should take me pretty much to full premium by the end of the byes

  4. I don’t like compromising which premiums I bring in so I usually take a hit in one of the bye rounds but do well in the other 2.

As an example I was keen on bringing Jelly in this week which suits my bye structure but with the news Greene is out for a month I don’t trust Leon not to move Jelly more forward like he did earlier this season. So the overall better pick IMO for my team would be Steele even though he’s another round 14 bye player.

  5. I guess I’m a bit of a Bye planner.

I have considered Byes from my starting team. I feel its a chance to race up the rankings. I understand folks that mainly play for leagues. I guess dropping one foul score, and having the best chance in the other two makes sense.

I’m going for 18+ all three weeks.

Round 14 is going to be tough.
I need to trade out 1-2 R14 rookies pre Byes, and another 2-3 R14.

    My current Bye structure is..

Missing Premos / Missing Rookies* ( chance to be traded )
    / Dead rookie / loop**

    R12
    4 / 3 / 2

    Stewart
    Jiath
    Impey
    JZ
    Jones
    Flynn*
    Kosi*
    Brockman**
    Saunders**

    R13

    6 / 2 / 2

    Short
    Ridley
    Bont
    Walsh
    Zorko
    Dusty
    RCD*
    Scott*

    R 14

    7 / 5 / 3

    Mills
    Laird
    Steele
    Brayshaw
    Gawn
    Grundy
    B Crouch
    Berry*
    Jordan*
    Warner*
    Poulter*
    Rowe*
    Highmore**

My plan is to target one more R13 Bye upgrade next week. ( maybe Merrett $480K )

Then try to find R 12-13 Bye rookies as down grades for maxed out R14 Bye Rookies.

R12 save trades, Downgrade only if its a must have bubble boy that plays R14.

    R13
Target R12 bye players Whitfield or Titch

    R14
    Hopefully one down, two up.
    Targeting.. Macrae, Danger.

    R15
I want Clarry to finish my Mids. I will probably need him to sub or low ton, at least twice for me to afford him. More likely I will probably have to settle for a cheaper Petracca.

Lets hope all the planning pays off.

What could possibly go wrong 😉
