  2. Back:
    Sicily, Dawson
    Yeo, Bowes, Goater, Gibney
    (Wilmot, Chesser)

    Mid:
    Laird, Oliver,
    Brayshaw, Green, Hopper
    Ashcroft, McLean, Phillips
    (Constable, Bond, Drury)

    Ruck:
    Marshall, Cameron (Madden)

    Forwards:
    Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto
    Ziebell, Fyfe, Phillipou
    (Van Rooyen, Greene)

Any ideas? Potentially downgrade Bowes and upgrade Zieb/Fyfe to Gulden? Is he worth the risk?

    Feedback welcomed

    1. I wouldn’t be jumping on Gulden for 1 practice match. His last 10 matches in 2022 he averaged 87.8, up on his year average of 81. A slight improvement, yes, but probably not worth the risk at that price, unless you’re very very confident.

    1. My bad, fellas.

Pre-season games had me thinking it was February.

Ty for the pick up, boys.

  3. Have Laird Oliver Bont and McLean(F5)

    T/U Neale and Phillipou(on field)

T/D Gulden and Ziebell – with Phillipou on bench (have Dunkley Taranto Coniglio Rozee F1-F4)

  4. Right now, I don’t know if the warm up games are a help or a hinderance. How many times have we seen someone tear it up and then come out with nothing and then the total opposite, a gun just in cruise control waiting for the real stuff (STEEL).

DEF: Doch, Dawson, N Daicos, Yeo, Wilmot, Constable (Gould, Wagner)

Mids: Oliver, Bont, Brayshaw, Steele, Green, Hopper, Ashcroft, Chessar (Blakely, Bond, Harvey)

    Ruck: Darcy, ROB (Madden)

FOR: Dunkley, Taranto, Fyfe, BKing, Tsitas, Richards (Sinn, ADavey)

I think there’s 12 premos there, and if everything goes right, the 3 mid-pricers, Yeo, Hopper and Fyfe will warrant keeping until close to end of the year and be final upgrades in each line. Fingers crossed.

Let me know what you think, please.

    1. Solid team, only concern would be those rookies in your forward line and your bench, I count 8+ unlikely for R1 so just make sure there’s a quick back up plan in case they don’t turn up (perhaps Fyfe to Philippou and use the funds to get yourself 20+ green dots)

Hear what you’re saying about practice matches too – let’s hope there’s no dejavu with a certain Hawks rookie…. I remember last year Josh Ward tonned up in the praccy match then disappeared until after the byes…

        Marshall Cameron / Ratugolea

Likey to be final if all selected but I have some back up plans if need by.

  5. Feel as though I’m 1 premium short in Def but need the funds as it’s looking more and more likely we need to pick the more expensive rookies to start. If enough quality cheapies it’s Yeo>Dawson

Laird Oliver Neale Macrae Green Ashcroft McLean Bytel

    1. IMO you’re rookie mids are looking light. Downgrade a lesser mid to someone like callaghan gws to free up some cash to get some mid rookies that are gonna be good cows with green lights come round one.

  7. Hi all,
Praccy matches saw me scrambling to swap Lycett out for Marshall. Rather than mess with my premo selections, I thought I’d try shopping for a little more value in my rookie selection.
I’m worried I have no cover/bench cash gen down back or in the middle.
    Thoughts?

DEF: Sicily, Stewart, Yeo, Wilmott, Constable, Gillbee (Montgomerie, Dewar)
MID: Laird, Oliver, Neale, Bont, Hopper, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillips (Cincotta, Drury, McDowell White)

    1. OK. Scratch that.
Just read the chats for the WCE/ADE and SYD/CAR practice matches and I’m thinking I need to go back to the drawing board (again).
I know it’s dangerous to make calls on the basis of pre-season matches but they’ve raised some serious doubts about a couple of my inclusions and thrown a few more players in the mix.
I’m not posting another team for SCT’s expert consideration until the last week!

    2. Reckon your prediction might come true. Like your rucks & forward rookies and looking strong there. In defence & mids I’m not sure how many of your rookies are gunna play.
Some of the more expensive rookies have better job security. May need to drop a Ziebell to Phillipou/Sheezel, and grab a gibney down back.

      1

      0
      1. Yup. First change has been to downgrade Yeo to Ginbey. Could come back and bite me in the arse but I’ve always been a bit sketchy about his injury profile and whether he’ll need managing so the Ginbey/Yeo practice match performances pushed me over the line.
        Looking at:
        Stewart to Dawson,
        Davey to McAndrew,
        Montgomerie/Dewar to Chesser/Cowan

That will allow me to upgrade my ruck line – Cameron to god knows who… O’Brien?

Ziebell was last into my lineup and could well be out depending on FWD rookies named Round 1. Would likely let me get a rookie off field down back.

As I said; back to the drawing board!

    1. I’m going to have an aneurysm if another person asks for this TU/TD again lol.

Cogs a must have FWD (basically) and Green a breakout MID prospect. Totally apples and oranges, should be selected/rejected on their own merits and in the context of their respective lines.

Flat ton FWD lock and 110~ MID competing with 120+ options. Not comparable.

    1. Looking at youre team you are far to heavy in the mids mainly at the expense of your forward line, its a interesting tactic but far to risky and forgiving to many points up forward and if some of your rookies are dropped after round 1 or not named you will be in a lot of panic, dropping a premo in the mids to field mackenzie or phillips will free some cash to strengthen the forward line and your team will be much improved!, keep up the good work 🙂

      5

      1
    2. Lose at least one of Steele, Macrae or Neale to bolster other lines. Probably two of them to be honest, with Steele first to drop and Macrae second.

Have to work with the available rookies and right now you look like running 4/8 forwards into round 1

      1

  10. God, this is getting complicated.

Rookies situation on each line very complicated and throwing wrenches into my side. Think people are forgetting the old SC adage of rookies dictating structure and the need for us to take the best cash gen available.

DEF: I’d only field Ginbey and Constable, maybe whoever gets the gig out of Cincotta and Cowan as well – but definitely wouldn’t want Wilmot or Chesser ever near the field given their low floors (roles and development profiles). Didn’t love Yeo’s game yesterday and more importantly a weak Eagles side without Nic Nat will hurt him. So pretty much need 4x premos there or 3x and 1x Jones/Cole 200k type to allow for just Ginbey and Constable on field.

MID: This is the line that’s fucking with my head the most. There’s literally no 123k options. Dead ass can’t name a single one who will play Round 1. Maybe Baker depending on today but he wouldn’t do much if we’re being honest. Problem them is all the MID rookies capable of good CG with JS are pricey: Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie and Phillips. I have all four right now. In a normal season with ample rookies I wouldn’t spend 800k on 4x rookies and we could probably get away with fading say a Mackenzie (who is pretty clearly a 75% chance of being a Ward 2.0), but they’re really the only ones capable of good cash gen that will play. Davey does look like a nice M11 thankfully.

RUC: Given how thin cash gen is, I’m thinking of Rat R3. Railed against him early and still don’t like him – was chuckling when everyone was gushing over dump kicks falling into his lap. Still don’t believe he’s LT B22 and capable of defending but at 170k upfront, I might take a flyer. Needs a patch of 60s-70s. If not, call it a day and drop to a loop. Whole rookie sitch has me thinking no loop btw.

FWD: Decent amount of rookies but the problem here is you wouldn’t want to field most of them. Phillipou might be okay at F6 but will be prone to quiet days v good opposition. Menzie looks good but 150k for a Dons small you don’t want to field is a bit weird. Sturt and Greene are solid but absolutely slow burns at F7 & F8. Pedlar had some moves yesterday but price and profile a little awkward. We’ll see how Berry looks today for the Suns. Yeah, so problem here is there are rookies but fielding more than 1 really is a no. Allen would help plug a spot but idk about him starting the season with no Nic Nat and then playing Melbourne, Freo and the Cats.

Midpricers, particularly those 200k ones, now critical. Hoping today’s games can resolve some of the madness.

    1. Gees Gunners, I had light in my life before reading this comment.

Don’t worry about Yeo, he’s not some new recruit that needs to impress. He did that earlier. He’s an old pro that knows the time to go will be Round 1.

Big Sav will get games with JHenry out for quite a while. Not sure how he’ll score but will be a slow burn. DK and Kolojaz are the stand by your man kind of defenders, so maybe Sav will get plenty of easy marks after all.

    2. Seeing plenty of teams with Gilbee and Drury and other cheap rookies on bench to fit in better players in field.

When the cheapies don’t get named, there is no wriggle room in their teams and a restructure is needed

      Keep some cash

  13. Honestly thinking of going 3 forward premos + Ziebell, Fyfe and Brun.

Lots of mid rookies and a couple of Def rookies might make it worth it.

    3

    1
  14. Am i crazy for thinking of running 3 premo mids which are laird, oliver and green with hopper, callaghan, ashcroft, mckenzie and phillips.
This frees up cash to run 3 premos and a mid pricer up back two premo rucks and 4 premos up fwd with two mid pricers. Only rookies on field bar the midfield are ginbey and constable.
    TU: Crazy
    TD: Might just work

    1. Someone talk me out of Mitch Owens. There’s not much around at his pricepoint other than Callaghan who I already have.

I could Dawson down to Tom Green via dpp but that forces Wilmot, Chesser or Cincotta on the field instead of Phillips.

This would give me Fyfe and Green (t/u) benching Phillips and playing Chesser
instead of Dawson and Owens (t/d) with Phillips on field and benching Chesser

Or comment for options instead of Owens?

      2

      1
      1. HH

Don’t go Owens mate. His role is terrible as a makeshift tall forward. He got lucky yesterday and it certainly wont happen every week. The main problem I see with your side is you have over spent in defence. 3 x $600+ players just leaves your team very light down forward. Drop one of the big boys to Mid-pricer like Jones / Stocker / McKenna and upgrade Owens to a Taranto / Rozee type.

        best of luck in 2023.

    1. JHF looked terrible for mine. Shitty attitude and no major strides from last year really. I do get how someone at his price frees you up though.

Sheezel and King also dicey on field and as outright selections.

Bones and premium picks all strong though.

      3

      1. Have to agree with GD here.

JHF is no good. You could swap Flanders into his spot and downgrade him to a McKenzie type in the Mids. This should leave a few $ to upgrade King or Sheezel to a Midpricer with a better role.

    1. Maybe a bit too reactionary to the practice games, Chris, but nothing completely insane. Solid team – just beware that Gulden and Flanders had key mid omissions (Touk and Mills) helping them along…

      3

      1
    2. I am a veteran, but so was Zac Dawson in the end so take my advice as you will. Your team looks like it has captured form players from the practice matches and I think most of it will stack up. Nevertheless, My advice is pay more attention to roles and JS during practice matches than scores. Afterall, you have done your homework and your pre practice match opinions on [players were formed for a reason.
      Good luck mate.

    1. Just because all the FWD rookies are ass and I don’t want to field them, I’ve grabbed Gulden as a filler at F4.

Role and talent there. Not much downside at 470k and 19% ownership (will be 30%+ in a few days).

We’ll get a poll up on Monday.

    2. I think there’s a fair risk to not having him that doesn’t exist with most of the 500k players.

While that mid/fwd role is there he looks a real gun at a serious discount.

How long that role stays is another question.

  22. New month, latest team update after preseason games.
Worpal, **** and Mackenzie were the only players not on my pre season games watch list who I’m now happy to roll the dice on, either through their role or CBA’s etc.

Cut Yeo, Cogs, Oliver (cogs and oliver have been in from the start besides a couple days each, but have now made way for money).

DEF-Sic, Stewart, Doc, Ridley, Ginbey, Constable-Wilmot, Cincotta.

MID-Laird, Setterfield, Hopper, Worpal, ****, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie-Hollands, Phillips, Baker.

    RUC-S. Darcy, Marshall-Madden

FWD-Dunks, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Bruhn, Flanders-Green, Sturt.

Seems Taggers will be running rampant this year. They were all through the pre season games. So Lots of opportunity for fallen uber mid premiums.

Only 4-5 rookies on field(callaghan). But there looking like posting a min 80 points each.

I just came to the point where I couldn’t see a way of getting any income during the season. My Benches were dry. And with this team I like all my Benches.
My Def Ruc and Fwd are solid enough to give me time to wait for the taggers to do their thing. I can actually Barrack for them this year. But not the ones playing on defenders, thats just low.
Hoping the mid pricers in the mids can be a quick 1 up and down to a fallen Uber. While posting minimum 85 ‘s.

I don’t want phillips or hollands on the field but do want their money.

    TU-To Crazy, No mids!
TD-Hmm, I think i like this set up and can see the Merit in it.(those pesky taggers)

    9

    8
    1. There is def merit to this and theres genuine possibility that when it comes to the end of the year, you could be one of the only people who can afford all 6 of the top players in each position.
But to do that, you are really sacrificing your start of the year. I just cant see this team getting more than 215o points (with all mid pricers having breakout years), which might put u bit too far behind to claw back.

Bit thin on the mid bench in particular. Can correct that in a couple of ways, without hurting structure much.

But it has good dpp structure and likely looking at 29 players so I think it’s wearable.

  24. Well I thought the weekend games would make life easier that didn’t happen. Bruhn is in still need defenders. TU Sinclair or TD Sicily

    0

    12
    1. Going to get tagged a lot and not in an exclusive role.

Pies pump too many guys through their midfield and even if he were set at HB that’s a soft kill position for tags.

Pay up for 600k guys or fill out with Jones, Cole, etc.

      2

      0
  25. So this is my team with a few interesting inclusions, at the conclusion of this weekend’s matchs

DEF – Stewart, Docherty, Dale, Jones, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cincotta)
MID – Oliver, Macrae, Merrett, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Baker, Davey, Chesser)
    RUC – Marshall, Cameron (Madden)
FWD – Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Bruhn, Sheezel, Phillipou (Greene, Sturt)
    $14.9k remaining

    – Have a few reasons why Dale is my D3. One: I feel with how tricky the defence is looking already this year, I think having 3x premos is a safer option than going 2x premos Daicos, and I’m not faithful in Daicos breaking out further this year, as I do believe second-year blues is a thing and I’ve always felt not right whenever I have put him in. Plus after how well the De Goey/Mitchell combo looked, I think that might effect his scores. And I have a slight feeling that Dale might break into the $600k premo zone this year, and I think he’s much closer to doing that than Daicos.
Second: I did have Dawson as the D3. But after Callaghan’s performance, I wanted him in but I didn’t have enough with Dawson. So Dale was the next best downwards in my opinion.

    – I picked Liam Jones over Yeo. Only because Yeo looks a little troubled without Nic Nat there, and I feel that may continue for quite a few rounds before he comes in. Jones looked right at home and should be more consistent within those few first rounds.

    – Still sticking with the Oliver-Macrae-Merrett at M1-3, that hasn’t changed for weeks, and they all looked really good over the last couple of weeks

    – Also still sticking with Marshall and Cameron as the main rucks. Marshall looks to be playing as the sole ruck for a big part of this season, which will improve his scores immensely. Cameron still got just under 100 even though he wasn’t the main ruck (and scored more than Cox too). He seems to favour kicking way more over handballs, which most rucks don’t do, and kicks = more points. He seems to move around the ground well for a big guy too, so he shouldn’t be short on disposals as far as rucks go. And his JS should be much higher than Cox, so he might gradually become the Pies main big boy.

    – Sheezel did more than enough for me to put him back in at F5. Only the one goal this weekend, but he racked up 21 disposals.

    6

    1. Looks a lot more solid than my team, I like the Dale pick and he’s a name I’ve pondered over too in the past, and ultimately I agree with you about Daicos too.
Green is someone I can easily see averaging 110-115, and I like the slight POD’s in Merrett and Macrae over the more popular Bont/Brayshaw.
Very similar ruck combo to a lot of others, Marshall seems the safest pick, while Cameron comes with good upside.
      Similar with your forwards.

With the headache that rookies are giving us, and subsequently making it more difficult to stick with a traditional structure, I feel as if you’ve put together a very solid team, well done.

DEF: Sicily, Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cowan)
Two top tier premiums there in Sicily and Dawson. My main issue here (and every line for everyone else) is the rookies. Jones as my D4 makes me wonder if Supercoach really is the game for me at this point, but it’s where I am at the moment, and I am not proud.
MID: Laird, Oliver, Bontempelli, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillips (Baker, Chesser, Davey)
Oh goodness, this is one of the weaker midfields I’ve built. Hopper, although seemingly a lock, is by no means an acceptable M4, and yet I will pretend he is for now. The top 3 names there are the names I expect to be the top 3 names by the end of the season, and so I don’t see them changing any time soon. In all honesty, a lot of the premiums ~600k do not strike the most confidence in me. Parish, Steele, Brayshaw etc. all have the potential to lose a bit of cash quickly, and so hopefully I’ll be able to jump on them at a lower price.
    RUC: Grundy, Marshall (Ratugolea)
I miss when we could just choose Gawn and Grundy and not have to worry about anything else. Marshall looks good, and at the same time seems a safe pick. Grundy… much less safe, and yet as a Melbourne supporter having him in my team is just going to make it all the more exciting when he and Gawn BOTH dominate all over the ground, not stealing points from each other, instead creating points out of thin air.
FWD: Dunkley, Coniglio, Moore, Rozee, Bruhn, Philippou (Sturt, Greene)
Now you can see why the midfield was so much weaker. I promise I did not mean to load the forward line like this, and yet although it seems as if this line has the most rookies to choose, I trust 1.5 of them to start, and so I just kept adding premiums. Personally, Coniglio is the least trustworthy name on this list, but I’m ‘confident’ he can show me I was right to pick him. Moore is someone I feel people are sleeping on, the man is a deadset gun, and he adds just a splash of colour to the team. Bruhn as F5 might seem like overkill, but imagine he averages 90 !! That’s my whole end of year forward line almost completed. Don’t bring me down to Earth, I like it up here.

    Cash Left: $36,700

Honestly I wanted more money left, purely because I value the flexibility it gives me when a multitude of these rookies inevitably shit the bed and I need to make drastic changes by Round 2, but right now it is not meant to be. I aimed to not have any 120k rookies on the field (damn you Constable), and have selected players like Ratugolea on the bench as I think it’s especially important this year to have cash generation from every rookie.
I realise I may have written a lot, so if it’s too much for you to read, give it to your English teacher and let them grade it for me (the team and my writing)!

      2. I see cogs as an issue but you often find that the cash gained by a downgrade can’t be spent.

Honestly I’d go Cogs down to Taranto with this and use the cash to upgrade Grundy to Darcy or Rob.

Greater cash generation and greater security.

Grundy didn’t score a lot nor get great game time. Taranto should be able to increase his price, I dunno about Cogs being able to maintain his.

Cogs to Rozee or Gawn back to Darcy/Rob would be my first two downgrades if I’m unsatisfied with anyone in my lineup.

Rozee, Taranto, Darcy and ROB are all as likely to be top 6 as Grundy or Cogs in my opinion.

But as that’s not really enough to pull Ziebell full premo, and I’m bullish on Green as opposed to spending 100k extra on Bont, it doesn’t structurally change much for me.

But if I need some cash for a rookie upgrade pre round 1 that’s my cash sources.

    2. Enjoy the long form RMTs, Balla.

Great stuff. Good structure attune to the rookie landscape and rate all your premo picks.

Feels like no one is going to be 100% happy with their team heading into R1 lol.

    1. Fml my team is a mess GD

I have 10 premiums with Hopper at M4 and Bruhn at F6

    2. I reckon you get extra a discount for early purchasing, just like with airfares. The later you get the player in the more you have to pay.

That’d make the preseason drafting phase a lot more intense

Didn’t get to watch the games so my main concern is Josh Bruce, I thought he was going back to play that rebound role? And now with Richards injury is that more likely?
King is a bit of a Mott’s Maneuver, although I’m not sure on his cash gen when he does play maybe 60-70k?

  29. Like many, I’ve been concerned about the lack of cheap rookies, so have played around with a team of not quite ubers, and rookies that should at least play.

Houston Ridley Yeo L Jones Ginbey Constable
    Chesser/Wilmot

J Kelly Wines Libba LDU Anderson Warner Ashcroft Phillipps
    Cincotta/Sinn/Baker

    Marshall Draper (Madden)

Moore Rozee Taranto Ziebell Fyfe Sturt Rat/Davey

    $65.7 itb

Reckon there are 13 players capable of averaging 100 between them, 5 average 70, and 4 average 50ppg……total of 1960 including extra 100 for my c.

Reckon some of these non ubers end up keepers, and the others become easy 1 up 1 down during the season.

    1. Hey there NondePlumme

I see what you’re trying to here I’m just not sure it will work. I like your backline so I would stick with that for now. In the midfield you need at least a couple of really solid Captains options. You are aiming for 120 min as a Captains score. Dunkley is a must have Forward and can be Captained. I would look at swapping Wines and libba ( neither are top 10 mids and will weigh your team down later, or at least require a trade. ) Try to at least get Bont and another guy ~$600K that you feel comfortable putting the C on. Brayshaw / Steele / Cripps and Merrett are some of the options. You may need to downgrade Warner or LDU to a Hooper type to make this happen. He should score ~100 and make cash along the way.

If you have extra cash left over maybe spend it on upgrading Draper. I’m not sure he’s quite ready to take the next step and you will bleed points to other Rucks.

Forward line is pretty solid but you REALY need Dunkley at F1. He averaged 110 at the Doggies with limited midfield time. He is ready to explode at the Lions in a full time mid role. He could average 120+ this year.

Hope this helps somewhat and best of luck this year.

  33. I’ve seen a lot of bruhn over ziebell on this chat and I’m a bit confused as to why. I didn’t watch the north Melbourne game but did ziebell not play that seagull role at half back or do people just believe bruhn will be better? Smith and duncan still to come back into the cats midfield. For me Ziebell has better job security and a proven scorer.
Maybe it’s about the price but bruhns only 35k cheaper

    1. Bruhn was very impressive in both the match sim and the practice game.

He had a lot of midfield time and as a Cat’s fan I don’t think Duncan or Smith will take midfield minutes off him.

These days Duncan plays mainly off half back and Smith is a winger who sometimes goes into the centre.

  36. Having tracked all the praccy matches, my squad pending team sheets is as follows:

    DEF
    Stewart, Docherty, Yeo
    Ginbey, McKenna, Constable
    Bench: Wilmot, Cincotta

    MID
    Oliver, Bontempelli
    Cripps, Green, Hopper

Very happy with the midfield, including batting deep on the bench. Cripps as a POD feels good given the popularity if the other 3 premos I have in there, and he’ll be a good round 1 VC.

Really the only change I’m tossing up besides bench rookies is whether to swap Yeo and Sheezel for Bowes and Flanders. Yeo and Sheezel both have the better JS, but feel like the upside lies with Bowes and Flanders.

    1. Brayshaw probably the safest to consistently go around 110. Cripps, Parish and Steele all have upside to go 115-120 though, but have had either consistency or injury issues. Kinda depends on how risky you wanna be.

Trac is also awesome but his scoring patterns make him a good upgrade target. Does come with the chance of gaining DPP too.

  44. Hey there Jack, welcome aboard.

I will try going line by line and giving you some options.

    Defence..

Dale is a great Pod and should be good, just be careful as Richards can eat into his out put a bit when he returns. Well worth a punt to start though. I’m a little worried about Daicos getting tagged a bit, but the kids a jet and will hopefully work his way though it. His high ownership still makes him quite a safe pick. Ridley is another option ~ his price. Quaynor looks rock hard fit but his role is not great for SC. He plays as a lock down too often and may give you some very average scores at times. Yeo is slightly cheaper and in a heap of sides for good reason. He is a proven scorer getting midfield time and is probably the safer option. I like Constable ( suns ) as a rookie priced defender. He has been in the system a while and should score a heap more points than the crows guy. Not sure Weddle starts so maybe go for a Chesser / Cowan who look to be getting games early. Liam Jones is another Midpriced guy that looks to have a great intercepting role at the Dogs if you don’t like Yeo. He’s cheaper too ! Ginbey and Wilmont are solid.

Midfield. Neale, Brayshaw and Cripps all great Uber Premos. tick.
Generally Midfield rookies score a heap better than forward rookies. So If your choosing a Fyfe or JHF you should move them forward.I actually like Bruen better than JHF and he’s cheaper too. Guys like Phillips (North ) and Mackenzie ( Hawks ) are solid rookie priced options top start on field in the mids. Finn Callaghan (GWS) is another cheap midfield option that looks great in the practice games.

Rucks. Thats my ruck line ! If Mc Andrew gets a game for the Swans early chuck him at R3 instead of Lane. We need a many rookies playing and making cash as possible.

Forwards. Generally we don’t like picking forwards that actually play forward.Unless they are rookie priced, and even then we try to keep these guys on the bench. Guys like Taranto , Rozee, Cogs can all be selected on this line and will mainly be playing midfield. Henney is a jet but will have the odd quiet game when he doesn’t kick many goals. This will push his price down and thats when you jump on.I would consider swapping him out for one of the guys I mentioned above. Gulden is an absolute jet and if he keeps getting Midfield time he certainly worth starting. Cox , Larkey and Cadman are all mainly playing forward so will give you some stinky scores I would avoid. Move Fyfe and JHF or Bruen forward as discussed in the midfield section. Sheezel looks like a reasonable rookie and Phillipou is another I would consider as a on field option. Finally your Forward bench.. Fergus Green seems to have a spot for the Hawks and can be put at F7.
Alwyn Davey or Chandler are others to consider for bench spots in your side.

Basically you want 30 green dots to start the year. This means all your bench rookies are playing. The rookies increase in value and when they are close to top price , usually around Round 6-7 you downgrade a bench rookie to a playing replacement. With the cash you upgrade a playing rookie to a premium option. This is known as going 1 up 1 down . You can use the Boosts to go 2 down 1 up if you want to try and snare an Uber Premium player as they often stay around the $600K mark. SC is basically like the stock market Sell you rookies at their highest point. And try and pick up Premium players at there low point. We have a weekly post on “Fallen Premiums ” to help you choose a player when they provide the most value. The aim is to have a full premium team some time during the Bye rounds. Try not to waste trades swapping Premium players around unless they are injured or REALLY under performing. Most players have a bad week so try to hold the faith. Don’t forget to set your Captains and any Emergencies as its easy to overlook in the scramble for round one.

I hope that all helps you pick a competitive SC side this year. Keep an eye out for my team reveal in a few days as I will release a League code and would love you to jump on. Nice too see you today buddy and hope you have a great year !

Every single year with out fail a HB bobs ups and score huge in a pre season game. Last year it was Short who scored a 170 from memory and sucked a heap of us in. The tackle pressure is never up to round one standard and half backs walk out of defence and score big points. Bowey scored big in the Melbourne game as well.
Baker probably wont go this big again all year. AVOID !

    1. The team looks good Chillo.

I have much more faith in Phillips on field in the midfield than Sturt up forward.

Phillips had the CBA’s but was basically out classed by a dominant Doggies midfield. He should improve v lesser opposition. Sturt will be too up and down as an inexperienced forward. Port were basically woeful and I can’t see him getting those points most weeks. It’s an easy structure change with Bruhn forward if you have the cash.

      2

      0
      1. Thanks FT, this is a good point and I have enough cash to get McAndrew to Phillips. I’m keen on keeping Sturt as I like Freo’s early games and he could bag a few to kick his cash gen along. JS is a worry but he’s not alone on that island.

For the same reason, I would love to fit Fyfe in there somewhere but probably need some cheap rookies to pop up to be able to afford it.

        1

        0
        1. Yeah Fyfe actually looked really good.

As I may have mentioned Port were pretty average on the day though. I have gone Bruhn over Fyfe as the mid priced forward option. Flanders is another that looked quite good in a well beaten side, but his role is very up in the air. I prefer Bruhn’s midfield role. The only real red flags are both Guthrie and Danger had very low time on ground in that last game. I’m hoping they use Bruhn a heap at least early, to help manage the older guys midfield time.
If Bruhn is named on ball he is a lock. If they name him on the bench I may get nervous and switch him up for Fyfe.

  50. I have $263,500 ITB and no idea where to use it…..

Have done a full remake of my team and proj. score has dropped from 1850 to 1715 (lol). Main structure difference was to bring in the higher priced rookies who will play RD1.

DEF: Sicily, Stewart, Yeo, Jones, Gibney, McKenna (Wilmot, Chesser)

MID: Laird, Oliver, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillips (Philipou, Constable, Baker)

Obviously gone hard on the potential cash-generators – especially in the forward line. But that midfield is definitely worrying.
I’m at the point where I no longer have any clue what I’m doing. Any input???

    1. Suppose you could get Yeo or Fyfe/Bruhn to a premo if you’re not 100% sold on any of them?

      1

      0
        1. Chances are those three def rooks at the end won’t all be named, and you’ll need the cash to fix it. Hang on to that money for now I reckon.

          0

          0
    2. I would consider Jones to Cincotta, bring Constable on field in defense and Cincotta onto the mid bench. I think you then have enough for Callaghan to Steele.

      1

      0
      1. If you prefer Callaghan to Mackenzie, then you could take Maclean to Davey or Sheezel to Greene or Davey, on top of the Jones to Cincotta swap.

        0

        0
    3. You have plenty of options. Personally I would trade out McKenna, shift Constable forward and trade in Cincotta into M10/M11. To gain extra cash I would go Rata – Madden ($73,600), McLean – Greene ($55,000) and Fyfe – Flanders ($57,000) or someone you like in that price ball park. With your $263,500 ITB I would then upgrade Phillips to any premo up to $662,500 which would give you one of Macrae, Bont, Merrett or several other premo’s who might take your fancy. It is a way to get another premo on the field whilst keeping your mid-pricers and cash generators.

If a defensive rookie pops up, I could bundle up Yeo & Long for a premo. Also have room to go up from Gulden to Moore who I rate, but the Hawks are going to get spanked more often than not and I can’t quite trust him. I had LDU, but his game on the weekend spooked me and I can’t quite get over the feeling he might have a similar score profile to last year. As a result the team looks a bit more balanced.

      1. Forgot to add the usual caveat: Rookies subject to change based on selection. There are case where beggars can’t be choosers.

I another build I had Yeo as D3 and Bailey at F4. Might still go back that way. I’ll probably change it another 4080 times between now and lockout.

I do like Pedlar though. Despite his role I think he’ll make better coin than Jimmy Rowe did a couple of years ago.

  52. Doc Dawson Yeo Jones Ginbey Constable (Wilmot Chesser)

Laird Oliver Green Hunter Hopper Callaghan Ashcroft Mackenzie (Phillips Cincotta Drury)

    Darcy Marshall (McAndrew)

Dunkley Coniglio Rozee Taranto Flanders Phillipou (Greene Davey)

Feels really light down back but I’m not sure where to reallocate resources from

    1. Good side Nanks- we all have to have at least one line we’re worrying about- otherwise probably got too many midpricers. Your side looks good.
Like the Hunter pick- great pod!

    1. Never had him until all this midfield talk surfaced just before the scratch match. Would never have started him as a HB.

Straight back to my initial POD Ridley though after his role in the 2 games we got to see.

      1. I had Ridley last year and he didn’t score like a premium

What has changed at Essendon from last year?

        1. The coach and hopefully his role.

Wasn’t locked on a KPF, played off Mitch Owens which is exactly what I’m expecting this year. CHB, playing off one of the lesser forward threats, as oppose to being matched on a gun small / big.

They also looked for him on the switch (which has been a note from their training this PS). And took all but 1 kick-in while he was on the ground, in which Redman fed it straight to him.

Think he can do 100+ this year, and at D3, 500k – he’s locked in.

  55. Intrigued by Libbas performance albeit against the roos. Probably been overlooked by most of us but he could be the main beneficiary of Dunkleys departure. Plays the similar intense approach lots of tackles and CP’s, more so than the other mids. Could he make a big jump this season?

    1. I know Abs Magic has put him in his team, but I can’t see where he will ever be a top 10 midfielder

Bont and Macrae will both benefit from Dunkley leaving, still with one or both of them

$106,900 ITB. Really been tossing up between adding another premo down back through cutting some of these mid prices, however there seems to be a lot of value this season again. Thoughts appreciated!

    1. Missing a defender Tigs

I think there might be better options than Young at that price too. I’m a fan of his but Ridley or Daicos will almost certainly outscore him this year

Otherwise, I like this a lot

    1. Prestia has a left pectoral muscle strain.

“It’s some sort of pec (pectoral) injury. Obviously, we’ll go and scan him later in the week, but we’re not sure at this stage. Hopefully, it’s not too serious,”

      Andrew McQualte, midfield coach

  59. After the practice games had a good think and a total reset for the most part. Cash left $800. 10 premo structure.

Def: Dawson, Daicos, Yeo, Bowes, Jones, Gibney (constable, Willmont)

Dawson could be Doc, everyone should play, Bowes is an easy downgrade to a cheaper rookie if not named.

Mids: Clarry, Laird, Setterfield, Hopper, bruhn ,Callahan, Ashcroft, Phillips (Baker, Chesser, hollands.) Would love to have a cheap rookie show up and get hollands to Mackenzie

Rookies dictate structure and the best most secure rookies are mid only. So they’re playing.

    Ruck: Gawn, Marshall (Loop)

Gawn as a POD with a high ceiling. More forward probably just means more goals and maybe DPP.
His current price is based on a dual ruck system so shouldn’t drop off too bad.

FWDs. Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Cameron, Ziebell, Fyfe (Davey, Greene)

So this is where I spent all the money. Would love not to have toranto but seems good value and high ownership reduces some of the risk.

Cameron allows Gawn to get corrected to Mid/Def if looking bad and/or rested during the season.

  64. I really want Cunnington but it would have to be at the expense of Steele, but could upgrade a rookie to a Callaghan/Worpel type. What do you reckon?

Thumbs up – Steele & Fergus Greene
Thumbs down – Cunnington & Worpel

Def – Doc, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable, Chesser (Wilmot, Concotta/Cowan whoever gets picked.)
Mid – Laird, Clayto, Bont, Green, Hopper, Worpel, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Phillips, Baker, Davey)
Ruc – Darcy, Marshall (Madden for loophole)
Fwd – Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Cunnington, Sheezel (Phillipou, Sturt)
