  1. Pretty much sold on this team would love some advice tho

DEF: Sicily, Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cincotta)
MID: Laird, Bont, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mckenzie, Phillips (Baker, Chesser, Davey)
    RUCK: Witts, Marshall (Rat)
FWD: Dunkley, Rozzee, Taranto, Gulden, Ziebell, Bruhn (Green, Sturt)

Decided to go a bit short in the mid as that’s where the best rookies are and gone pretty big up forward liking the value in the mid pricers.

    1. Yep. Love that, Sam.

Perfect backline, good premium picks, fully filled out FWD line and think Witts is worth the 600k after how honed he looked and the fact he’s gonna open against a Hickey-less Swans.

      Great work.

    RUCK: English, Marshall (Madden)
    FORWARD: Dunks, Rozee, Taranto

Been deciding between Steele and Brayshaw. Also would like another premo down back but this is what ive ended up with so far. Let me know what you guys think!!

    1. Hey, Charlie.

Unless you’re super bullish on Worpel and back him for 90+, I’d be culling him and using that money to beef up your FWDs. Even if you stick with Worpel I’d still find a way to get a non-rookie at F5. Can’t field more than 1 rookie down there this season imo.

Rest of the side is bangin’.

  4. Appreciate any feedback from anyone on my latest iteration:

DEF: Docherty, Dawson, Yeo, Ginbey, Mckenna, Constable (Wilmot, Weddle)

    1. Heya Pumba
Nice team, I would recommend maybe thinning your midfield to get a guarantee top 10 mid such as Oliver, Laird, Bont, etc. Would give you more captaincy options and save you trades down the line. Best of luck this season!

  5. I felt a lot more strapped for cash this year. Trying to fit in my premos along with all these mid pricers proved tricky but this is what I ended up with. Rookies obviously placeholders until selection.

DEF: Sicily, Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cincotta)

MID: Laird, Oliver, Bont, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Phillips, Baker, Chesser)

    RUC: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)

FWD: Dunkley, Taranto, Gulden, Bruhn, Flanders, Sheezel (Davey, Drury)
    ITB: 14.3K

It hurts not to start 12 certified keepers but I’m hoping a couple of my midpricers and more expensive rookies step up as possible keepers or just generate mad cash! Would love other coaches thoughts, with one week left to go I wish you all the best with your preparations!

    Cheers,

    1. Great team Bomber.

This is probably one of the better 11 premo teams I have seen.

The only real way I see to get in another Premo is to shave Sicily to a Ridley type and Clarry or Laird to a $600k mid. This should allow you to get Bruhn up to Rozee.

This team could really fire early though.

  6. Few more tweaks in the last couple of days:

DEF – Stewart, Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable [Wilmot, Cincotta]
MID – Laird, Bont, Brayshaw, LDU, Green, Hopper, Ashcroft, Mackenzie [Johnson, Baker, Gillbee]
    RUC – Darcy, Marshall [Madden]
FWD – Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Bruhn, Greene, Berry [Sturt, Davey]

Head to head decisions to be made before round 1 (aside from obvious rookie selection issues):
    1. Laird or Clarry
    2. Brayshaw or Steele
    3. Darcy or English
    4. Bruhn or Fyfe

Any thoughts on these 4 H2Hs appreciated!

    1. Yeah don’t love consideration those changes. Think every player in your side is better than the one being considered.

  8. Just curious as to why I’m seeing less and less of Coniglio in everyone’s FWD? Have I missed something?

    2

    0
    1. I know. Bizarre to me as well.

Think a lot of people weren’t wrapped with his 85 in the practice game. That’s fickle though. It was off 61% TOG after a bump from Ballard and he was still on a great CBA load in a revamped midfield.

Still does triple digits and is Top 6 easy.

      6

      0
    2. A possible explanation is price point?
Example. Coniglio to Rozee a saving of $43,900.

A point of consideration but Coniglio remains in my team.

I am unaware of other impediments to including Cognilio in your team.

      3

      0
      1. Cogs dropping in ownership is purely down to one man.

        Errol Gulden

He’s nearly $80k cheaper and with the rise of so many mid pricers, dropping Cogs down to Gulden allows another Midpricer in your line up.

    1. Don’t mind this team Barnesy

I have considered Jackson at R2 myself. Bowes is a bit of a worry as we haven’t seen where he is likely to be playing yet. My other concern is actually Oscar Allen and Ratugolea. Both are quite pricey for what they re likely to produce so I’m personally avoiding both. You could look at Flanders and a 124k rookie for the bench like Chandler or Sturt.

You may also need to re-jig that mid bench as Drury and Sinn wont line up round 1. Try and get Phillips in the midfield and push Davey to the bench. The rest of the team looks solid.

      Best of luck in 2023.

  10. Doc, Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, McKenna (Constable, Wilmot)

Laird, Neale, Bont, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Phillips, Baker, Cincotta)

    Witts, RoMo (Madden)

Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Flanders, Liam Henry, McLean (Greene, Davey)

    31k itb

Henry is my POD, only needs a 65 average on a wing which I see him doing comfortably. Not sold on Callaghan/Flanders but I think they make their 150k at their price. Let me know thoughts!

  11. DEF: Stewart, Doch, Jones, Ginbey, Wilmot, Cincotta (Constable, Chesser)

MID: Laird, Oliver, Bont, Green, Warner, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft (Baker, Tsitas, Davey)

    RUC: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)

FWD: Dunks, Rozee, Gulden, Bruhn, Ratugolea, Philipou (Greene, Sinn)

Rookies prone to change based on selection, particularly the bench rookies. Not that keen on Ratu but I hate not having ruck cover. Also pissed about Gulden deciding to explode in a pre-season game. Was looking nice as my F3 when he was at 3% ownership. Also not that sold on Yeo. Part of me wants to go midprice mad and get Will Day/Ben Long in but that’ll probably be contingent on the rookie crop come rd 1.

  12. I’m not sold on this team, still just playing around, but this is an option if I decide to go for a deep FWD to have no rookies onfield.

DEF: Sicily, Young, Yeo, Ginbey, Constable, Cowan (Wilmot, Chesser)

Assuming Cowan gets a gig R1 here, but if not and there’s no other good cheap options, can rebalance things to just go Ginbey + Constable onfield. Sicily + Young got the call over Stewart + Saad. Could go either way. Just really struggling to go past Sicily.

MID: Oliver, Bont, Parish, Green, Hopper, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillips (Baker, Drury, Gilbee)

Been locked on Oliver and Bont since day 1. Parish is my POD, think he’s ripe for a big season, but could also go Steele or Cripps, think both will go big and are also somewhat PODs at this stage. Eventually got talked into Hopper. Green looks set to break out, don’t even see him as a risk.

    RUC: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)

Nothing crazy here. Darcy looked like a monster and Marshall is an easy pick. Also like ROB as an option.

FWD: Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Gulden, Bruhn, Powell (Greene, Sturt)

Really glad people are overreacting and getting rid of Cogs, making him more of a POD. Love it. Gulden is just the best option at that price range but still worried about him being a trap. Bruhn looked good. I’m also really bullish on Powell. In every article I read about North’s intraclubs, practice matches, preseason games etc. he has been a standout. Clean talented player who should get games. Bit of a punt but if he’s not looking good can easily correct him down to a rookie or up to a Ziebell/Fyfe. Think he can at least go a ~80-85 average best case scenario.

Ideally (wishful thinking), that FWD line won’t need to be touched until the bye rounds barring injuries and suspensions. FWD rookies are always the worst so I like the idea of not needing to have any onfield.

Like I said though, not married to this team, it’s a risky unbalanced structure, I know, but might be worth it to not have the FWD rookie headache.

I’m really tempted by setterfield but don’t think I can start him along side hopper at their prices and can’t make a case for him to start over hopper.. but feel free to talk me.into it I’m all ears.

Fading Gulden but not sure what I’d do with the cash saved so his holding his place.. I have flirted with Gulden-> phillipou/Flanders
And grab setterfield in the midfield.

Got some players I have my radar on to fit in but just had to make it work, so many forward options this season. Cogs is definitely one I’d love in their but struggling to fit him in and make the team work, Sheezel a bit annoying having him on bench instead of field but really unsure if I should take anyone out that strong forward lineup. Would love Laird and Dawson also. Would appreciate any feedback or ideas one what you would think would work best.

  20. Hey coaches,

Upgraded Cincotta to Chesser for job security reasons.
Upgraded Madden to. McAndrews as I want a conveyor belt of cash making bench.

  32. Is D Cameron still an ok ruck option to start??

Seemed ok in practice match and has a good run to start but everyone seems to be jumping off!!

Is it better to find the money and upgrade to Gawn/Witts/English/Darcy and which one and even more importantly why??

Note – have Marshall as other Ruck like everyone else

    1. I feel he is still a good option to start with if it fits the rest of your team. I think the other guys you mention probably have a bit more scope to go big consistently. Yes Cameron had gone decent scores last year (a season high of 130 with8x scores over 100 with 4x scores over 115. Remembering this is from 16 games round 7 onwards), It looks Cox has generally improved and I wonder if he is being trusted a bit more with ruck responsibilities. Although Cox is probably the biggest sub risk which could help Cameron’s scoring obviously but how often is that?

    1. Many sides are running 2-4-2-4 premiums. I think if you running 4 midfield premiums, then I think it preferable to have 3 of those four top shelf certainties, with only one emerging. My suggestion would be to take Callaghan to Phillips and put the money on LDU’s head and buy one more top shelf if you’re choosing. Or take Philippou down to a 123k rookie like Sturt or Comben.

    1. Not a fan of the Lycett pick. He was embarrassed by Darcy during preseason and with 190k in the bank you can easily get him up to one of the big guns. Or if you are set on that cheaper ruckman, I’d prefer Cameron at that price range.

The rest is fine. Couple of different choices, which is okay. Just don’t like having 190k sitting there.

  39. I am thinking of the Ziebell or Bruhn choice (I can’t have both). For me the decision comes down to probability.
On one hand we know that Ziebell has reached keeper level before, but this season we hope he regains the role SuperCoaches desire.
On the other hand with Bruhn it is double the hopes. We hope he can breakout to keeper level and we hope he will get role & JS.
I have been disappointed more times with my breakout predictions than I have been with my fallen premo expectations. Ziebell just seems more likely in my opinion.

    1. BTW, I am a scholar of the works of Father Dougal and I recognise that I have a Frog and Breakout situation. But there just seems to be more breakout misses than breakout hits.

    2. Go Ziebell. Because if you have to use a correction trade on him then you’ve go a bigger pool of players to bring in.

    3. I’m starting Buhn. Purely because I want to lol. But can easily be a correction trade if it doesn’t work out, not even to Ziebell. If you start fwd DPP in the mids, he can easily become a midfield midpricer instead ie: Setterfield, Hopper, Worpel, Callaghan etc (If you didn’t start them)

  40. First time SC-er so still wrapping my head around this.

    Def: T. Stewart, S. Docherty, I. Cumming, R. Ginbey, C. McKenna, C. Chesser (D Wilmot, A. Cincotta)

    Mid: T. Miller, J. Macrae, A. Brayshaw, T. Mitchell, J. Worpel, F. Callaghan, W. Ashcroft, C. Constable (C Mackenzie, W. Phillips, O. Baker)

    Ruck: J. Witts, R. Marshall (L. McAndrew)

    Fwd: J. Dunkley, Z. Butters, E. Gulden, T. Bruhn, H. Sheezel, E. Ratugolea (F. Greene, A. Davey)

    ~40k left in the bank

Recently traded in Ratugolea for Phillipou.

Any advice on my team would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Would move RAT to R3, turn Mackenzie + 40k into a decent F6 and then find another 123k mid rookie who will do better then Mcandrew who won’t play.

      0

      1
      1. I would do it differently. Be more inclined to turn McAndrew into Madden to loop and use the cash to turn Sheezel into Flanders. I think Rats is capable of being a starter and I think Mackenzie averages more than Sheezel.

Although saying that. I’d also rather be starting Mackenzie and Phillips onfield over Rats/Sheezel, so maybe a re-shuffle and turning someone like Worpel into a Bruhn/Ziebell/Flanders maybe another option.

  41. Why am I seeing Callaghan everywhere now?

  42. DEF: Sicily, Ridley, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cowan)

MID: Oliver, Bont, Green, Taranto, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Phillips (Baker, Chesser, Davey)

    RUCK: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)

FWD: Dunkley, Coniglio, Rozee, Gulden, Ziebell, Ratugolea (F. Greene, Chandler)

I went light in Defence and Mids and went heavy in Rucks and Forwards. Once Ziebell gets DPP, he will move to backline, Taranto to fwd and Premo/Mid pricer who is scoring well will be traded into Mids (Hopefully)
Overall, i think i have a nice balance.

    What are your thoughts supercoaches?

    4

    3
    1. I like it. My guess is the dislikes are against starting with Taranto in the middle. I’m not against it though, and have played around with Dunkley in there myself as I had concerns over a few of those 600k mid picks. Although, I have opted for Steele so that put an end to that experiment.

      1

      1. Thank you TJ for your response. There is nothing wrong with putting Dunks in mids temporarily. He was 16th highest average scorer in the midfield. Ahead of J.Kelly and Libba etc (Seen supercoaches taking risks with these two). Steele was 15th. These players mentioned can push for top 1o mids. Hence why you need to take risks to push for glory. Steele is a great pick.

Suns and Crows will be very competitive pushing for 8th-12th spot therefore opposition coaches will look to minimise damaging premos impact around the contest affecting their scoring (Laird, Miller, Parish, Brayshaw).

Bont will have more minutes onball, Oliver will play mid and halfback, he was still racking up touches at halfback in praccy. I don’t think it will affect Oliver’s scoring.

Taranto was averaging 91 (playing mid/fwd). He will play full time mid, pushing his average to 110 i reckon. Players between top 10-14 in mids were averaging 110-111. I think he will score like a premo therefore allows me to pour extra cash to have depth in forward line.

I don’t have much faith in much rookies this year because coaches will employ tactical sub and substituting rookies who are having trouble impacting the game.

Premo Mid/fwd players can be used in midfield for short period as long as they score like midfield premo should be fine. Dunks, Taranto and Congilio will play full time onballers.

  43. Def: Dawson, Yeo, Jones, Crozier, Ginbey, Constable (McKenna, Wilmot)

Mid: Laird, Bont, Macrae, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Phillips, Baker, Chesser)

    Ruck: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)

Fwd: Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Bruhn, Flanders (Greene, Davey)

    Bank: 84k

Trialling with this structure for now which has what would seem a weak backline to help beef up the forward line in order to field no rookies. Crozier I feel will be a good scorer but just unsure on his job security. Ive also elected to pass up on rookies like McLean and Ratugolea who if they score well could hurt me. Additionally, I feel leaving some money in the bank will be vital for corrective trades where I can switch from players such as Bruhn and Callaghan if they start slowly.

Love to hear some thoughts on the team.

    6K in the bank

Massive risk in the ruck, plan is to upgrade after round 5 and should know by then who the dominant rucks in the comp may be. A win if Ratugolea can avg 80 to that point. Loaded up in the mids and I’m 50/50 about De Goey, could potentially be a keeper but also tipping him to explode in the first 6 weeks.

    Would love some opinions…

    1. You have gone cheap in the RK Line for DeGoey.?

Degoey will average 90. The Rat a injury concern and will be lucky to push 60 as a lockdown defender, look at his history. Never mess with the ruck Line, it causes heartache.

    2. I think any of the rucks options are decent with their own pros and cons. And they are all at very similar price points. So If one does fail, you’ve got options.
What is your plan if Ratugolea fails week one?

    ~$70k banked

Pretty happy with the 2-4-2-4 structure, I’m sold on Gulden breaking out this year. Unfortunately can’t fit Bruhn/Flanders into the team but if they perform well first two games happy to make a corrective trade on a premo.

    1. You could afford Flanders for Sheezel with 70k in the bank. I’ve dropped hopper, playing Phillips onfield and running Bruhn in the forwards as I don’t like the forward rookie options.
      For me;
      Callaghan – M6
      Phillips -M8
      Bruhn -F5
      Flanders – F6.
That could be an option for you. Risky when its runs that deep but.

    2. Former Geelong Falcons gun inside mid who was a #12 draft pick and never got that opportunity at the giants with their deep midfield playing mostly OOP as a small forward. Seems to have endeared himself at the Cats with his PS inside role and they need someone to take over from Selwood.

  57. Interested to hear how Ziebell owners think the competition with Hall and now McDonald will go for C Gulling? McDonald only played 11 games in 2021 and that was when he was trialled in the midfield.
I agree Ziebell is underpriced but am struggling to see him as either a cow ( $150k) or a keeper. Especially at 32yo.
I also think that Clarko will be looking at getting games into Goater and maybe even Sheezel back there like in the PS game for the future.
Happy to hear alternate views of course.

  58. We’reFlyingHIGH Mk II

After flirting with a six man MP team for most of the PS, I’ve decided to go in with a majority GnR team again with the exception of Bruhn and at this stage Hopper who I’ve downgraded Brayshaw to to bring in Ridley. I just see too many high priced rookie cows that will be required and have solid JS this season.
12 absolute (hopefully) keepers to begin with also gives me security.
My thoughts on the main MP are as follows:
Taranto – just can’t trust in the Tigers MF for consistent points at that price point with Dusty, Shai, Baker, Cotchin etc. rotating through in their system.
Ziebell – see my comment above.
Bowes – may still become my second MP but just not sure he will either be a cash cow or keeper – same for Ziebell and others at this awkward price point.
Yeo – unsatisfactory injury profile and whilst he’s been fit in the PS, I can’t help thinking with the pressure on and the way he plays he will break down.

    Anyway……….

Docherty, Dawson, Dale, Ridley, Ginbey, Constable (Willmot, Cowan)
Oliver, Bont, Zerritt, Kelly, Hopper, Ashcroft, MacKenzie, Phillips (Baker, Chester, Cincotta)
    English, Marshall (Madden)
Dunkley, Rozee, Bruhn, Sheezel, Phillipou, Rat (Greene, Davey)

By the way, my wife has a ream of six MP players plus a Cally and Jones. Will be interesting how things play out.

Good luck everyone for season ‘23!

  59. A word of caution to some league administrators.

With a 24 round season, it has been brought to my attention that if h2h starts r3 in an 18 player league, every player plays one other team twice. I’m in 10 leagues, and three of the 18 player leagues currently start r3. To avoid this, administrators need to change the starting round to round 4.

Similarly, 20 player leagues need to start h2h r2.

    Cheers

  60. TU: Ziebell F5, Jones D4, RAT R3, Holland M9

So essentially first one I have ziebell and jones and then good cash gen on bench with rat and hollands from Carlton. Second one means I get Sheezel instead of ziebell and McGrath down back instead of jones. To do this tho I need to get rid of the cash gen in rat down to the loop and hollands down to davey

  61. Was thinking that less rookies on field is best practice (current team has 5 onfield rookies, with a decent mix of midpricers – Yeo, Jones, Callaghan, Flanders, Hopper, Bruhn, Gulden) but short a premium or two – only 10 players over 500k. Is having more rookies better though to help with cash generation??

TU – nothing wrong with having less rookies as long as the midpricers increase in value
TD – 1 more premium and another rookie is better than 2 mid pricers.

Would love to hear the reasoning behind this as I seem to be possibly too mid price heavy at the moment.?

  69. I think there is a place for a few semi-premiums, instead of the midpricers.

The problem I see with Hopper, Setterfield, Fyfe, Ziebell, Yeo, Bruhn types, is we know they won’t be ‘keepers’, but we pick them as ‘stepping-stones’ (which I think means they will make a bit of cash, but not as much as a rookie, and score ok points, but not as well as a premium).

There are a few this year who I call ‘sub-premium’, meaning they could end up being that D6, M8, F5/6. Think Sinclair, Hewitt, Witts, Doch and Sicily of 2022.

However, getting the wrong ones can be frustrating, especially if you are stubborn and hold into them instead of early corrective trading. But get the right ones, you are off to a flying start and saved trades.

Most Sub-premiums are priced between $470k and $520k

The ‘sub-premiums’ I am currently have in my team are:

Ridley, McGrath, Yeo, Whitfield, Greene, Titch, Grundy, Taranto & Gulden.

    Any more to consider?

  70. Any love out there for Mark Blicavs to partner Marshall?

Going to average 95-100, with the odd 120+ game with the right role, 13 games over 100 last year including 3 over 120.

Very durable, only missed one game in the last 4 seasons and that was a rest before last years finals.

At $537k he is below the top tier rucks but in my opinion a much better option than those priced below him.

I have had more players partnering Marshall than I have hot feeds, a revolving door position!

    1. Yeah can’t do it as a Mid /Ruck.

If he was still Mid /Def maybe as he could possibly still work as a D6

The top rucks will outscore him by at least 10-15 points a week and you definitely can’t hide him in the midfield with that average.

He will require trading so Pass.

    1. I rate setterfield very very highly as long as he keeps the inside role. If essendon start experimenting he’s screwed. Where as Hopper has that role locked. I’ve had drafts with both.

  72. G’day SC’s,

    Latest version.

I admit I have gone light down back and in the Ruck to supplement some mid price madness. I started preseason as pure GnR but have moved to a team that hopefully can score well from round 1 and still generate cash.

I have stacked my mids bench purely for potential cash generation as I have gone light on other lines.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Tu) Laird and Sheezel (F6)

    Td) Macrae and Flanders (F6)

  76. Darcy Cameron at R2?
Or Will the cox experiment make him completely irrelevant? Can’t we just swing him forward if he doesn’t quiete workout and grab a top line ruck once we know more… and eventually upgrade Cameron to a top 6 forward. What do we have Cameron averaging?

I’ve had Sean Darcy locked in for a good week or so now but the 100k saving is nice.

  77. Last version until teams drop.

Doc, Dawson, Dale, Yeo, Ginbey, Constable
    ( Chesser, Cincotta )

Laird, Neale, Touk, Hopper, Duursma, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie
    ( Phillips, Baker, A.Davey )

    ROB, Romo ( Madden )

Dunks, Cogs, Taranto, Bruhn, Sheezel, Greene ( Sturt, Caminiti )

11 premos and hopefully Yeo/Hopper fire for us all. Bruhn may become Fyfe before next weekend.. undecided.
Lighter in the middle than most teams but the 3 big guns can make it work.
Duursma a bit of a POD stepping stone I think he has a more definitive role compared to a Flanders type. Wasnt that long ago he was in the conversation with Rozee and Butters. Hes had a few setbacks but is much more talented than the price reflects should be a quick upgrade with a bit of luck.
First time i have dropped Tom Green out of the side just dont have the cash.
    Only 3.8K ITB

    Any suggestions?

  79. Anyone else a little worried about reports Oliver will spend more time Fwd and more Dee’s players running through the midfield?. Wondering if that score in the practice match may be more the norm this year?

Also not much love for Touk Miller here. A lot are tipping him for the Brownlow and he may score a little slow first round due to his delayed start but its a long season one of the fittest guys going around and will be blasting 150s out before you know it. Only concern how he will go with the hard tag with a few Q’s over that last year and the early bye.

Thinking going Laird, Miller, Bont and save that $38k

    1. No, Oliver will not play fwd. That is Petracca playing more time fwd.

Oliver will have a short role at half back. I don’t believe it will affect his supercoach output. He was racking up possessions at halfback in praccy match. Oliver is fitter than last year. You will see him running down the ground like a bull now (Saad style but better ball efficiently haha)

      1. …depends on his TOG% as to whether he will accumulate the same amount of points imo…apparently the feeling at the D’s is that their mids have been running out of puff by seasons end….

….another concern would be the number of “give and gets” in succession he has…i.e. a couple of quick possessions as he routinely picks up in the middle and around the packs…my thinking is that there will be less of that in defence…

…I’ve replaced him in my team as I’m expecting him to be picked up a fair bit cheaper at some point

TD: Oliver (M2), Davy (M11 Bench), Greene, Sturt, T.Berry or 123.9k Fwd (F6-8).

No real onfield advantage with Miller, just stronger bench. Or possibly Menzie or Bruce at F6 with Miller (F6 is my weakest position).

        1. It was exactly that, a practice match.
          Not completely sold on him.

I think the points and cash generation of the Darcy and ziebell win over the Gulden and Cameron but I can see if Gulden pops off and 35% of teams own him it’ll hurt.
I may go down the Gulden + Cameron path yet.

  84. Ok this is my 1st draft so happy to tweak if anyone wants to give some feedback

    Def – Docherty – Dawson – Yeo – Jones – Ginbey – Constable ( McKenna – Wilmot)

    Mids – Laird – Bont – Green – T Mitchell – Worpel – Ashcroft – Mackenzie – Phillips ( McLean – O Baker – Gillbee )

    Ruck – English – Marshall ( Ratugolea)

    Fwds – Dunks – Rozee – Taranto – Gulden – Flanders – A Davey ( Greene – Sinn)

Thinking of maybe swapping Mitchell or Worpel but both could go big early this year

    Thoughts ?

    1. Fantastic team. Just want to ask though what you’re expecting from Worpel? I’ve also been contemplating English, however I just don’t trust his ability to play every week.
All in all though, I think it’s a great team with enough picks that makes it unique enough that could give you an advantage early.

      1. New coach and potential to go back to his highs of 2021
I think he has the CBAs to go a solid 90+ avg and with Mitchell and Jaeger gone can’t see who’s going to take his points off him

  85. Sicily vs Stewart is doing my head in. I’ve favoured Sicily because i think the hawks will struggle this year and in 2022 he averaged 12pts higher in hawthorn losses than he did in their wins.

The other idea i keep thinking about, is to swap Sicily with Bont. This would mean Wilmot on field in defence and Phillips on bench in midfield.

Docherty, Yeo, Jones, Ginbey, Constable, Wilmot (Cincotta, Chesser)

Oliver, Bont, Macrae, Green, Titch, Hopper, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, (Phillips, Baker, Roberts)

    Grundy, Marshall (madden)

Who will score better: Bont or Sicily or Stewart?

    1. Hi Derek

Ultimately bench rookies will go a long way to determine our final structure

With only 1300 ITB, then it will only take Cowan being selected and not Cincotta, and/or Davey not being selected and you are going to have to shuffle.

I think this is the same for most of us.

With so many of our bench (and a couple of onfield rookies not being named until Thursday night, we might all have a lot of decisions to make if Hollands is named for Carlton on Thursday night.

The Sunday rookies we won’t know about until after Hollands plays I can see are
Daniels (though I think might just be me!)
Pedlar (differing reports whether he’s B22 or not)
Mackenzie (even though I think he’s highly probable)
Greene (also think is highly probable)
Menzie (but not in many teams I see posted here)
Davey (such a cheap option, that for those of us without much leftover cash, a real dilemma)
      Philippou
      Sturt
Davey (in a lot of teams here – many of us have him on mid bench for the swing)

Our forward bench could be really messy if things go a bit pear shaped. I like Sturt, but I might have to pick Comben (if named) just for security.

All in all, Derek, I just don’t think you will have your answer until Friday night.

    2. Well I think Bont would score better than any premium you could get in defence, however I think it comes down to whether you trust a ~120k rookie in defence on field to make that happen, rather than the more reliable (at least in my opinion) Phillips on field in midfield. If it were me, I’d stick with Sicily, but decisions like these are the ones that make our team unique, and going with a different structure to others can pay off immensely for you.

    3. Sicily and Stewart aiming for about 115, but Wilmer probably 60ish.
Bont probably aiming 120- who your bench cover or replacement- probably hoping for 80 from Phillips, etc

  90. Time for the third iteration of my team this preseason.

DEF: Docherty, Dawson, Jones, Cole, Ginbey, Constable (Wilmot, Cowan)
DD’s up top, pretty comfortable at the moment with the decision to bring in two big premiums in defence. Originally had Yeo in for Cole, and would probably still prefer him, but sacrifices had to be made.

MID: Laird, Oliver, Neale, Green, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phllips (Baker, Chesser, Davey)
Neale is the big inclusion this time, gives myself 3 massive captaincy options each week. These midfield bench rookies are giving me the shits though, just as they are everyone else. No Hopper is probably the biggest exclusion on this list, but he just doesn’t really fit my structure at the moment.

    RUC: Darcy, Marshall (Madden)
Marshall is whatever at this point, he looks good so far. Regardless, everyone has him so he’s no longer a talking point. The other ruck spot though? Boy oh boy wowee! I’ve gone through Grundy, Witts, Cameron, ROB, English, Sandilands, Cox. Maybe I started dreaming of days gone past towards the end there. Ultimately (for now) I’ve settled on Darcy. I do understand the potential of Jackson hurting his score, but Luke seems like a really nice guy, and I don’t think he’d want to steal anyone’s points. In all seriousness, my thoughts were that I thought if Gawn and Jackson can make it work, Darcy, being the superior tap ruckman between himself and his new partner, will be attending majority of the ruck contests, and thus his average should not decrease. (Also I wanted to see a bit of purple in my lineup, that’s probably the main reason).

FWD: Dunkley, Moore, Rozee, Taranto, Bruhn, Phillipou (Greene, Sturt)
A relatively strong forward line, with Moore probably my most POD pick of the team. Dunkley is a lock, and in all honesty I’m real scared of starting the season without Rozee or Taranto in the team either. Bruhn is really my only proper mid-pricer in the lineup (I see Jones and Callaghan as just really expensive rookies), and thus, my least confident pick. There’s also no forward rookies that I want to see on the field, unfortunately the structure dictates that one must be there.

    $$$: 50,100

In a preseason where mid pricers are all the rage, I’ve done my best to stick to the tried-and-true Guns and Rookies approach. By my count, I’ve got 12 premiums that I know I can depend on.
The main changes from last time include: Yeo, Hopper, Grundy, Sheezel -> Cole, Neale, Darcy, Chesser.
Ultimately, I know shit all about what makes a good team this year, which is why I’m letting you all judge mine instead!
