  1. DEF : Laird Daniel Short H.clark J.Clark Highmore (kozi sharp)

MID: Oliver macrae Merrett Walsh Rowell Campbell Powell Gulden (Downie Brockman berry)

    RUCK: GAWNDY (Flynn)

FWD: Danger Dunkley Ziebell Warner Bergman Rowe ( Waterman Scott)

    BANK: 9k.

I’ve just put in Walsh and hunter Clarke for Neale and L.Jones… not sure about Jones JS and Neale’s niggle. Happy to take Walsh who showed his potential in the back end of last season and his tank is HUUUGE.
Clarke looks to have the mid role and CBAs for st Kilda. May need upgrading eventually but happy for him to be a last trade. Also means I’m not fielding a second unreliable rookie each week down def.

  2. Hi folks, here is my starting team for 2021 (pending selection of rookies)

Backs: Laird, Daniel, Mills, Stewart, Clark, Jones (Kozi, Highmore)

And please note, I really don’t like the Jayden Short and Joe Daniher picks, so I will defend their exclusion! 😉

  5. Pending rookies being named, I think I’m about as settled as I’m going to get.

DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Daniel, Short, J. Clark, Jones (Kosi, Highmore)
MID: Neale, Steele, Oliver, Macrae, Cripps, Dow, Powell, Downie (Berry, Gulden, Scott)
    RUC: Gawn, Flynn (Meek)
FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Ziebell, Daniher, Campbell, Rowe (Brockman, Waterman)

Got $22k left over for rookie adjustments.

It’s only 12 “keepers”, which is one less than I’d like, but my priority is in securing as much cash generation as possible whilst locking in the best scorers on each line. I’d rather pick keepers who I’m confident will be top 4-5 in their position than compromise with guys who might get there but could end up being in the 6-12 bracket. Butters the only exception to this policy because the forward options this year are arse.

I think my mid-pricers in Clark, Dow, Ziebell and Daniher have the potential to put up 300 between them most weeks, which is a hell of a lot more than I’d get by using that $935k on a premo three of the least likely rookies. The alternative would be downgrading guys like Lloyd and Neale, which I just can’t bring myself to do.

  6. Hi all, I think this pre-season has been the hardest I can remember with so little idea on rookies and such, let me know what you think of my team

    DEF – Laird – Stewart – Short – Fantasia – J.Clark – Koschitzke (Jones – Highmore)

MID – Neale – Oliver – Macrae – Adams – Taranto – Bruhn – Powell – Downie (Jordan, Guldin, Scott)

    RUCK – Gawn – S.Martin (Flynn)

FWD – Danger – Dusty – Ziebell – Daniher – Cambell – Rowe (Warner, Briggs)

I’ve got 273k spare to move around some of the mid-pricers that do/don’t work in the first few weeks, I’ve kept Briggs for the moment so I can have heaps of flexability when it comes to moving rookies/mid-pricers around

        • Lobb out for half the year vs. Marshall potentially back in a few weeks – Meek seems much more likely to make some bank than Hunter.

Sure there’s nowhere else you can squeeze that 20k?

          • Meek will come out when Darcy’s fit. He can’t really play the Forward / ruck role.

Treacy will cover for Lobb in a few weeks, when he’s finished his “Holiday”

I’m not sure Meek even sees a price change. 🙁

I think the 4-4/5-2-1/2 structure is the way to go atm, unfortunately couldn’t fit Phillips in anywhere. I’ve loaded up on midpricers due to the lack of rookies/uncertainty about teams/job security, and there are a few obvious risks, but I’m pretty happy with the structure. Any thoughts?

    • I really like your team, with a good selection of mid prices and quality premos. Tyson is a strange one, as he has played one good game for north in a preseason match against the equally not very good hawthorn, and is a big risk to take for absolutely no reason.

Titch is my only real risk but as a hawks fan I know what his supercoach scoring capabilities are, and from all reports he’s been training full contact for close to a month. Still not 100% sold on him though

    • I’m a hawks supporter and i love impey but he will likely be a mid 60s player. More impact than possession-player. Highest season ave was 74.1, then 68.3, then 62.3. After 7 years, i don’t see a big breakout.

I’m not sure about Ryan, may drop him to Stewart or Short. I’d prefer Lloyd but would need another 35k. But figure i can go 4 prem def and bring in Lloyd and Whitfield during the season. Anyone see improvements i can make?

  26. Matt Rowell is in a lot of teams
In his 4 full games he scored 72, 171, 141, 114 (remember scores were artificially inflated)
His 3 100+ scores of 2020 all featured at least 10 kicks, 10 hballs, 5 tackles, 2 frees for and 2 goals. These aren’t great stats and they go with a de that was between 70% and 80%.

The truly suprising detail from rowells scores last year was his actual game time on the ground in the shorter form of the game
    1st game 78%
    2nd game 75%
    3rd game 81%
    4th game 74%
16 minute quarters and Matt peaked at 81% TOG and that equals a touch under 52 minutes his average was 77% TOG = a touch over 49 minutes

In aammi he scored 91 in 70% game time = 56 minutes
His disposals were similar to his 100+ games 8 kicks, 12 hballs it was mainly his lower tackle count (2) and lack of goals and free kicks that kept his score below 100 (36 points in scoring actions below his 2020 average) but he also reduced his clangers from an average of 3.75 to 1.0 in aammi which is about 12 points.
The big improvement in aami was in contested possessions in 2020 he ave 56% CP (49 of his 87) in aammi 85% of his possessions were contested (17 of 20) and his de% was much better at 85.

So, in aammi Rowell showed that he is even more competitive than he was in 2020 and he has cleaned up his disposal significantly but his tackling has decreased significantly.
The increase in CP and de% should make up for the lost tackles it’s just the 2 goals and 2 frees for that he needs to the put him over the 130 score

      • I have made a last minute switch to Cripps…can’t bring myself to pay about$500k for someone who hasn’t completed five games. If I’m wrong, at least I will not be hugely wrong, if I’m right…its a masterstroke.

          • I think Taranto could be group think. Based on one good preseason game.

I owned him at the back of last year.

            He was terrible.

            Like really Bad.

ITs round 12 .. with little money I decided on him as a possible break out POD. He’s fresh of his Bye and had just scored 111,126 and 92.
He was $520K low ownership and I was keen.
            Then…
            Taranto’s last 7 games. ( Jaws Music)

            69
            61
            107 ( false hope )
            76
            69
            72
            65

He finished the year at $394K

Most of these games he had 20+ touches.
            Watching him was torture.

Don’t judge him on that one preseason game.

He’s too expensive for a stepping stone and if you think he can improve enough to average 105 and a be handy M8

            I say.. Good luck !

  27. Last Team reveal of the year.

    The Donkeys 2021

    Bank..$120 300.*

    Laird . Mills.
    Stewart . Short.
    H.Young . Highmore .

    Kos (E) . Fyfe.

    Neale . Steele . Zerrett .
    Cripps . Rowell . J.Clark.
    Powell . Gulden .
    Downie (E) . Brockman . McNeil

    Gawn . Grundy . Flynn (E).

    Dunkley . Zeibs . Dow.
    Campbell . Warner . Rowe .
    H.Jones . A.Scott (E).

    Notes…

I have gone Mills over Lloyd. They both come off less than ideal preseasons. I just think.. Mills has such low ownership, and with his age /role / Price ,I just see upside. I tried both, but the Byes
and all those Sydney rookies made me blink. I like Stewarts Bye.
Fyfe is there as loop, and so I can swing with Clark.

I’ve decided on Steele over Oliver. I’m not sure there will be much points difference, but Steele has had a better preseason. At $650k+ I also want him as a VC option. As Gawn and Oliver play together 😉

    G+G are both Captains options.
Last year was a nightmare and we got extra trades .Lock em in.

Bergman was in. H Jones is named.I may swap them if I can know in time.

I’ve last minute flipped and gone Dow over Daniher. Three reasons that determine any starting selection.Price role and durability*.
(*not as much of a concern with bargains)

Dow is cheaper and DPP. Him being named on ball, is enough for me to think Carlton are going to give him a chance to prove himself. I can always move him to the Mids if Daniher some how becomes a must have. I’m just not too sure he will ?

Daniher’s first 4 opponents (this will affect his price trajectory)
    Sydney
    Geelong
    Collingwood
    Bulldogs

All pretty good defensive units. If he somehow stays fit and kicks a few bags I will find a way to get him in.

    * I have kept way more than usual bank this year.
With the late naming of teams, and so many $170k – $270k cow like objects.( I also have a number of $102k guys, that may need correcting.) I want the ability to correctively trade my way to the best performers Also if the Rookies are good and either Rowell or Cripps are busts I have the cash to upgrade them.

I hope you all have a great year.

    Good luck!

Hunter Clarke is my POD playing midfield and a healthy CBA through the pre season.

Rowell I’m not set on could up him to an uber possibly Dangerfield at M4 and evetually swing him forward as I upgrade.

Have flirted with Phillips to butters but hard to look past the value and whose not to say they AVG close to the same.

    TD: Harrison Jones

  41. F2 I can’t settle it

Powell-pepper and rozee are out for a period. Does this make butters midfield role alot more appealing?
Is Phillips going to be stuck out on the wing too much? I have the money so that’s not a problem.

    TU: butters

    TD: phillips

    • My 2c

I would drop Fullerton and move Campbell forward. Then with the cash get a rookie and either.

A Upgrade Phillips to An Uber. anyone but Neale.

B If you really like Phillips, move J Clark back and swap a Premo Defender for any Uber Mid.

      I hope that helps.

      • Which defender would you drop? And what uber mid would you pick up?
I’ve toyed with the idea of swapping Grundy to Meek and picking up 2 500k players. Thoughts?

  44. Has Lloyd rejoined the must have group now that hes been named? I think so. I ask because his ownage is still much lower than i would expect.

  45. If you had to nix one of Briggs, Sharp or Highmore (assuming they’re all playing) which one would it be?

EDIT: Or Jordan, Lazzaro, Gulden, Powell, Bruhn via DPP.

  46. Downie not in team for Hawks so whose the best replacement
    TU- Sharp
    TD – Berry

Both named on interchange so probably need to wait and see if Berry is medical sub, and if so, then go Sharp?

  47. Need some help for the finishing touches on my team.

    TU Fullarton and Sharp
    TD Flynn and Jordon

    Please consider:
I have Gawn and Hunter locked in as rucks
I have Treacy as a loophole forward
I have A Fyfe as a loophole back ( I just have to have another 102k to avoid a full refurb!)
If I have Fullarton and Sharp, I can potentially run a captain or interchange loop hole across all positions by Switching Treacy/Fullarton as Forward/Ruck and Fyfe/Sharp as Def/Mid.

I can’t decide because I think player wise Flynn and Jordon is probably the stronger combo points wise but it is still a big unknown… Help wanted!

  53. Here’s my team as of 1pm

Lloyd, Laird, Ridley, Daniel, Short, Clark (Kosi, Highmore)
Oliver, Zerrett, Walsh, Rowell, Taranto, Dow, Campbell, Powell (Sharp, Brockman, Gulden)
    Gawn, Flynn (Hunter)
Dunkley, Butters, Ziebell, Daniher, Warner, Scott (Fullarton, Rowe)

    $23,600

My last minute epiphany was to swap Oliver and Taranto for Neale and Phillips but couldn’t get it done before the bounce so that’s probably how I’ll be rolling out for 2021. I might have one more sneaky up my sleeves for Fullarton when GWS name teams.

All the best to you all for the 2021 season.
