Reserves Rookie Review – Round 12

Written by Alza on June 5 2024

Slightly different Reserves Review this week. Will just be touching base on a few of the relevant rookies who are performing well or seem to be a chance of pushing into their AFL side.

SANFL

ADELAIDE

Dowling – already announced to debut, if he’s not the sub should score well

Curtin – possible inclusion but hasn’t had the best role in his 2 games so far

PORT ADELAIDE

Sweet & Visentini – behind Soldo who is the number 1 ruck

VFL

BRISBANE

Bye

CARLTON

Wilson & Binns – next in line but hard to see many games strung together

COLLINGWOOD

Kreuger & McInnes – good chance at least 1 comes in. Need goals to hit a high score

ESSENDON

El-Hawli – scoring great in the VFL and it would be nice to see him come straight in. Hope he does but likely behind a couple

Caddy – if Langford doesn’t play he may get a chance but not going to have the best role for scoring

Reid – injured his pec and all but out for the year. 2025 starting pick

GOLD COAST

Rogers – kicked 2 goals and could come straight back in, hard to see many changes from a winning side though

GEELONG

Clohesy – has to be close now, has been dominating and kicked 3 goals from 27 touches this week

Mannagh – was emergency on the weekend and has been consistent in the VFL this year

GWS

Bye

HAWTHORN

Watson – kicked 4 goals and shluld come back in this week

Phillips – injured with a short term time frame

MELBOURNE

Howes – had 32 touches and could be in line for a recall

Laurie – too good for VFL, if he has a good role he will be a great cash cow

Moniz-Wakefield – playing well and may get a chance but will be sporadic as we’ve seen with Melbourne players this year

NORTH MELBOURNE

Bye

RICHMOND

Blight – great 1st game as an AFL listed player with 20 touches and 8 marks. He’s a chance but they are getting players back

ST. KILDA

Garcia – had a rest and came back with 13 tackles and a goal, don’t think he’s back this week though with Crouch there with him

Schoenmaker – having a great year but it’s hard to squeeze him in their backline. Will score well when he plays

SYDNEY

Bye

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Busslinger – playing well, had a team high 11 marks but tough to get a decent run for the Dogs

WAFL

FREMANTLE

Worner– decent scorer but there isn’t really room for him at the moment

Voss – bit of a fringe guy this year but kicked 2 goals on the weekend

WEST COAST

Culley – has done enough to get a crack maybe just a bit expensive

Hall – getting close, he had 30 touches and playing well

Hutchinson – kicked 5 goals on his Eagles debut. He could play but probably not long term

  1. Great work as always Alza, I think this is one of the more valuable resources on the site.
Would it be possible to include the averages and games played with each player you cover?
I’m not sure about others, but I definitely use them to judge if a rookie has potential to be traded in.
