Reserves Rookie Review – Round 13 2022

2 bye weeks are done now with only 6 rounds until SuperCoach finals and our teams are pushing closer to fully upgraded. Although this is the case we will always need some new rookies to give us that extra cash boost or as injury cover that is bound to happen. A few mid season draftees played their first games and went well so look out for them in the coming weeks.

Verdict: Hayes returned to the SANFL in style with 33 hitouts and 9 marks with his new ruck buddy Teakle kicked 3 goals and took 7 marks in his first game for Port. The mid/fwd group of Mead, Mayes, Schofield and Burgoyne all played well with at least 20 touches each with Schofield the best due to his 5 clearances, marks and 4 tackles.

BRISBANE
Frankston 9.2.56 def. by Brisbane 9.8.62

Harry Sharp $193.2k MID – 20 disposals (13 kicks), kicked 1.0, 3 marks, 4 tackles and had 5 clearances – 84 (66/7)
Thomas Berry $171.5k FWD – 28 disposals (11 kicks), kicked 2.2, 3 marks, 11 tackles and had 7 clearances – 128 (100/8)
James Tunstill $117.3k MID –27 disposals (25 kicks), kicked 1.0, 9 marks, 3 clearances and had 4 inside 50s – 109 (72/10)

Verdict: Berry was among the best with a great all round game of 28 touches, 2 goals and 11 tackles with Tunstill also having a great game with 27 touches and 9 marks. Sharp had his best game in a while with 20 touches and 5 clearances.

CARLTON

Verdict: Carroll had a decent game with 21 touches as did Kemp kicking 2 goals. Hayes played his first game for Carlton and had 24 touches although he only had the 6 kicks, Durdin also played his first game for the Blues and is a chance to play AFL this week.

COLLINGWOOD

Aiden Begg $148.5k RUC – 13 disposals (5 kicks), 7 tackles, 15 hitouts and had 3 clearances – 75 (60/7)
Josh Carmichael $102.4k MID/FWD – 23 disposals (16 kicks), 3 marks, 10 tackles and had 3 clearances – 107 (107/1)

Verdict: Plenty of tackles were laid here with Macrae with 10, Begg had 7 as well as 15 hitouts and Carmichael in his first game for the Pies laid 10 to go with his 23 touches in a great game.

ESSENDON
Essendon 12.8.80 def. Carlton 10.11.71

Verdict: Bryan had a massive game in the ruck with 45 hitouts and filling every other stat also. Baldwin kicked a couple of goals in a nice game while D’Ambrosio had a team high 33 touches in his first Bombers performance.

GWS GIANTS
GWS Giants 13.17.95 def. North Melbourne 7.13.55

Braydon Preuss $457.1k RUC – 14 disposals (12 kicks), kicked 2.1, 5 marks, 18 hitouts, 3 clearances and had 7 inside 50s – 82 (82/3)

Verdict: Preuss had a good game with 2 goals and 18 hitouts and is a good chance to return to AFL action this week while Hamilton isn’t as likely although he played well with 23 touches and 6 marks.

Verdict: Rioli had a good game with 2 goals and 5 tackles as did Miller with 25 touches and 7 marks. Ryan dominated in the ruck with 40 hitouts and 23 touches, maybe a cheap option next season.

Verdict: Good game from Joyce with 22 touches but he’s not that relevant at his price and will struggle to play again this season with a healthy list.

Verdict: Naish had a good game with an equal game high 10 marks as well as 20 touches, good enough to be in their AFL side but plays a similar role to a few others. Winder and Williams were quiet while Bazzo played well and got a mention from the coach saying he would be given a chance this year. Strnadica did his usual thing and could be a cheap loop player and someone who may play a couple of games also.

  1. Thanks Alza- appreciate the info. Carlton already says Durdin in for this round and with a few of the other performances like D’Ambrosio, Carmichael, etc, gives us some hope for some good scoring rookies for cash gen & back up, down the track.
