Reserves Rookie Review – Round 4

The WAFL started this week with all reserves league in action now. The SANFL will be having the week off with Gather Round in Adelaide for Round 5. There are no clearance numbers for the WAFL unfortunately.

Some great games and scores from rookies this week so hopefully we get some desperately needed downgrade options soon.

ADELAIDE
West Adelaide 9.6.60 def by Adelaide 13.15.93

Nankervis had a good game with 22 touches and 6 marks as did Taylor with 26 touches, 1 goal and 9 clearances. Newchurch kicked 2.3 from 14 touches.

PORT ADELAIDE
Glenelg 10.10.70 def Port Adelaide 7.11.53

Visentini had a great game in the ruck with 29 hitouts and 9 tackles and Jackson had 20 touches with 4 tackles.

VFL

BRISBANE
Brisbane 17.16.118 def Collingwood 7.9.51

Some decent returns here but nothing to force selection. Brain kicked 2.3 from 15 touches and 7 marks in a good game with Tunstill also playing well for 18 touches, 2 goals and 6 marks. Lohmann took 9 marks and had 18 touches while Fletcher had 20 touches.

CARLTON
North Melbourne 6.10.46 def by Carlton 14.14.98

Cincotta didn’t play as he was an emergency for the AFL Blues. Binns was excellent with 31 touches, 2 goals, 9 marks and 4 tackles. Fogarty was decent with 25 touches and 4 clearances.

COLLINGWOOD
Brisbane 17.16.118 def Collingwood 7.9.51

Macrae had the most touches with 28 with 6 tackles and 4 clearances. Allan and Ryan both had over 20 touches. Steene is the ruckman and could play but he is very young and hasn’t shown much scoring potential yet.

ESSENDON
Northern Bullants 9.11.65 def by Essendon 12.16.88

Voss played well again even though he kicked 1.4 with 6 marks and 6 tackles. Montgomerie had 21 touches with 9 marks with Hayes and Lord having decent games also with over 15 touches and 5 marks each.

GOLD COAST
Sandringham 6.14.50 def by Gold Coast 9.13.67

The Suns racked up some big scores in this game against a depleted Zebras side. Blakely had 29 touches with 8 marks and 9 clearances, Constable had 36 touches and 5 marks. Tsitas had 27 touches and 6 marks. Uwland had 22 touches and 9 marks. Burgess had 28 hitouts and McLaughlin who has started very well this year had 25 touches, 3 goals and 6 marks.

GEELONG
Geelong 7.10.52 def by Box Hill 16.11.107

Dempsey played well again with 27 touches with 10 marks while Simpson had 25 touches and 4 tackles. Clohesy had 17 touches with 8 marks and 5 tackles while Clark had 16 touches and 4 marks.

GWS
Coburg 9.13.67 def by GWS 17.11.113

Fahey dominated again with 37 touches and 9 marks but the Giants have no shortage of half back/wing players. Gillbee and Fleeton were both good as well with over 20 touches and 8 marks each. Derksen kicked 5.1 with 7 marks and O’Halloran played his first game for 25 touches and 11 clearances.

HAWTHORN
Geelong 7.10.52 def by Box Hill 16.11.107

Long had a good game with 21 touches and 8 tackles as did Butler who kicked 4.1 from 16 touches. Ramsden kicked 2.1 with 12 touches and 8 hitouts and Macdonald had 20 touches with 6 marks.

MELBOURNE
Casey 16.13.109 def Frankston 7.7.49

Laurie bounced back with 35 touches, a goal, 5 marks, 6 tackles and 8 clearances to probably be best on. Howes had 26 touches with Jefferson kicking 3 goals from 13 touches and Moniz-Wakefield had 27 touches.

NORTH MELBOURNE
North Melbourne 6.10.46 def by Carlton 14.14.98

Free was good in the ruck with 26 hitouts and 9 touches with Wardlaw having 15 touches and 6 clearances.

RICHMOND
Richmond 8.9.57 def by Footscray 12.8.80

Nyuon who has been playing well in the ruck was injured early in this game as was Bradtke who broke his hand. Bauer had 18 touches with 5 marks and 9 rebounds with Banks having 14 touches and Green had 17 with 6 tackles and 6 clearances.

ST. KILDA
Sandringham 6.14.50 def by Gold Coast 9.13.67

Connolly had 20 touches and 4 clearances in a decent game.

SYDNEY

WESTERN BULLDOGS
Richmond 8.9.57 def by Footscray 12.8.80

Mclean had a massive game with 47 touches, 7 marks, 9 tackles and 17 clearances to try and force his way back to the AFL lineup. Raak played well with 20 touches and 4 tackles.

FREMANTLE
Peel 11.13.79 def East Fremantle 11.9.75

Worner was good last year in the WAFL and started well with 27 touches and 4 marks. Wagner had 20 touches and 4 marks also with Sturt and Corbett kicking 2 goals each.

WEST COAST
South Fremantle 15.12.102 def West Coast 8.11.59

Trew had a great game with 26 touches, 6 marks and 8 tackles as was Winder with 22 touches, 7 marks and a goal. Burgiel played well with 20 touches and 6 marks.

  1. The Gold Coast rookies looking quite solid. Would have thought Blakely would have already got a shot in the AFL team with a fair amount of AFL experience already in him

    • Sorry Wighty but I don’t think he does get back in at the moment with Weller, Powell, Long and even Macpherson in the side. I’m still hoping as I have him but not confident

  2. Corey Wagner (Freo) – keep an eye on him, could be a handy DPP down-grade option in coming weeks if he has a decent debut and holds his spot. (M/D)
