If you’re one of the chosen few who still have trades remaining at this stage of the season, then it’s probably unlikely you’ll be looking for downgrade options. With this in mind, this will be the last “full” Rookie Review of 2021. There will be a Rookie Season Review next week, looking back at the best cash cows and the highly anticipated announcement of the SCT All-Australian Rookie Team!
Here’s a review of the rookie performances from Round 19. Players “on the bubble” are marked with an asterisk.
DEFENDERS
Player | Club | Price | Score (avg) | BE |

Oscar CLAVARINO | STK | $151 500 (+$27.6K) | 54 (45) | -9 |
Leo CONNOLLY (MID) | STK | $181 800 (+$18K) | 28 (39) | 13 |
Trent BIANCO (MID) | COL | $237 300 (+$10.9K) | 62 (57) | 15 |
Ryan GARTHWAITE | RIC | $201 000 (+$13K) | 65 (47) | 26 |
Brandon WALKER | FRE | $161 000 (+$2.1K) | 55 (39) | 26 |
Nathan MURPHY | COL | $206 100 (+$7.6K) | 53 (44) | 34 |
Denver GRAINGER-BARRAS | HAW | $205 900 (+$10.1K) | 36 (43) | 35 |
James MADDEN (FWD) | BRL | $263 500 (+$7K) | 66 (59) | 52 |
Liam STOCKER | CAR | $316 700 (-$4.1K) | 49 (57) | 64 |
Goodbye for now: Highmore, Murray.
Mansell continues to thrive in an injury-plagued Tigers backline, while Madden has maintained solid form and looks to be good bench cover at the moment. Durham has impressed in his first two games, and with DPP status is the obvious downgrade option this week (along with West and Parker).
MIDFIELDERS
Player | Club | Price | Score (avg) | BE |
---|---|---|---|---|
Connor WEST* | WCE | $102 400 | 55 (63) | -65 |
Jeremy SHARP | GCS | $307 400 (+$51.2K) | 96 (85) | -29 |
Tanner BRUHN | GWS | $209 200 (+$20.3K) | 52 (43) | 11 |
Riley GARCIA | WBD | $238 100 (+$19K) | 53 (48) | 30 |
Lachlan BRAMBLE | HAW | $345 100 (+$53.4K) | 83 (79) | 31 |
Ryan BYRNES | STK | $294 800 (-$6.3K) | 37 (58) | 93 |
Goodbye for now: Newcombe, LEdwards, Jordon
Sharp and Bramble go from strength to strength and hopefully you’ve got at least one of them in your team! You should feel confident in putting either on the field if you strike a one week injury amongst your regular starters.
West is now on the bubble and cheap as chips. If you’re more worried about dollars than points, then he is the go-to cash grab this week.
RUCKS
Player | Club | Price | Score (avg) | BE |
---|---|---|---|---|
Tom FULLARTON (FWD) | BRL | $204 400 (+$25.1K) | 79 (47) | -2 |
Ned REEVES | HAW | $235 300 (+$46.9K) | 79 (75) | 11 |
Josh TREACY (FWD) | FRE | $243 400 | DNP (45) | 44 |
With Treacy a late withdrawal due to illness, there wasn’t much happening in the rucks this week. But Reeves and Fullarton both turned in very handy efforts and are perfect R3 keepers.
FORWARDS
Player | Club | Price | Score (avg) | BE |
---|---|---|---|---|
Matthew PARKER* (MID) | RIC | $141 000 | 81 (64) | -44 |
Trey RUSCOE | COL | $240 800 (+$41.3K) | 66 (45) | -30 |
Oliver HENRY | COL | $155 400 (+$29.8K) | 63 (32) | -21 |
Jamarra UGLE-HAGAN | WBD | $212 200 (+$4.9K) | 42 (45) | 23 |
Paddy DOW (MID) | CAR | $317 700 (+$2.8K) | 89 (58) | 50 |
Tyler BROCKMAN (MID) | HAW | $204 700 (+$3.9K) | 27 (43) | 53 |
Cody WEIGHTMAN | WBD | $294 400 (-$22.9K) | 50 (66) | 67 |
Caleb POULTER (MID) | COL | $246 700 (-$19.9K) | 63 (60) | 67 |
Jack GINNIVAN (MID) | COL | $102 400 | 34 (34) | N/A |
Anton TOHILL | COL | $123 900 | 39 (39) | N/A |
Goodbye for now: Perkins, Jeka, Waterman, Flanders, Owies
Weightman was quiet, right up until he stood on Max’s head and took a crazy hanger. And then was quiet again. Parker looks the goods and appears to have taken some midfield time off Bolton (boooo). Dow continues his late season resurgence, while Ginnivan and Tohill each had non-descript debuts but should get more games with the Pies looking to build for next year.

Struggling to choose between these two options
Have only two trades left and in QF final, lost to my opp in R17
TU use 1 trade – trading Taranto to Hawkins/Dale/Thomas via dpp. This would complete my fwd line, also can use Bramble as M8 but gives me little or no mid bench cover, and still might need to upgrade Bramble to mid priced mid. 1 trade left for injuries.
TD use two trades -trading Treacy and CCJ to Heeney/ T Greene and 102k ruck, gives me no ruck cover and lose Bramble, but completes team, no trades left for injuries. Miss out on Hawkins/dale or Thomas
Is holding an option?
I can hold but am trying to complete fwd line with one more trade and this would complete my team leaving 1 trade left
If I was using my last trade I would want to be bringing in a BIG gun, and I would I would want to ensure I have ruck cover.
Is trading out CCJ & Taranto for a Dunkley/Danger type & M Parker affordable? Both have DPP. Leaving Treacy at R3 and using Parker – Bramble to loophole?
