Rookie Review – Round 14 2022

Written by Alza on June 21 2022

The byes are over but the carnage continues. We have had a few rookies come through over the last couple of weeks who have looked decent and worth bringing in. While downgrade targets aren’t as essential it is all about job security as trades run low and injuries and rests start to accumulate.

Players on the bubble are shown with an asterisk.

Rhett BAZZO (FWD)WCE$117,30040 (40)-
Ryan ANGWIN (MID)GWS$123,90013 (13)-

The Good: Boyd played his best game of his career with 16 touches and 5 tackles. He used the ball fairly well at 75% but was boosted from his 10 contested possessions while also having 11 intercepts. Parnell played his 2nd game and started with a bang before copping a big hit in the 2nd quarter. He finished the game with 14 touches at 79% with 10 marks. He only had 3 touches in the 2nd half but fair play to him for getting back out there.

The Bad: Angwin made his debut and like a few others this year went down with an injury that will sideline him for 8 weeks.

MIDFIELDERS

Greg CLARKWCE$255,200 (+$11.9k)44 (65)52
Jackson HATELYADE$413,800 (+$23.7k)81 (77)69

The Good: Soligo continued his good form with 20 touches including 9 contested with 5 marks, 5 clangers slowed him down a bit. He now has a 5 Rd average of 74 and has been excellent since returning to the Crows line up. Hately was a good partner in crime for him as he gathered 25 touches at 80%. With only 2 marks and 4 tackles to go with 6 clangers he really could have gone big with a bit better ball use and tackle pressure.

Brynn TEAKLE (FWD)PTA$102,40030 (30)-

What a mess the rucks are this week with a huge thanks to Preuss. He ended up rucking solo and started really well with 13 hitouts and 3 score involvements from 16% game time before injuring his ankle as well as landing himself a week’s suspension thanks to giving English a concussion. 21% of teams went early on a ruck debutant this week with Teakle but he has injured his collarbone and will be out for 6 weeks. He started well with 5 touches and 9 hitouts from his 34% TOG. Jamieson has strung 6 games together now as a quiet achiever. He isn’t setting the world on fire but he’s doing his part. 8 touches at 100% and 9 hitouts this week for him.

The Good: West doesn’t have too many owners probably due to his starting price but he has been great this year so far with only the 1 score under 73. He had 14 touches with 5 marks and kicked 2.1 in the shootout, was even held back with 57% efficiency. Mead returned for the first time since Rd 5 with a nice game thanks to 15 touches with an almost 50/50 split of contested possessions as well as laying 5 tackles

The Bad: Hopefully everyone cashed out Durdin before the last 2 games. He had another quiet day as small forwards tend to do with 7 touches and a goal.

Rookie of the Year Award:
3 – Jordan Boyd
2 – Jake Soligo
1 – Rhylee West

Rookie of the Year Award After Round 14:
12 – Braydon Preuss
9– Nick Daicos
7 – Jackson Hately

  1. Thanks again for the article Alza 🙂

For those with trades, there might be some good DEF rooks coming through – with Parnell this week, and D’Ambrosio next week.

Not sure about Judson Clarke’s job security going forward due to Richmond having a few small forward options – but he does look like a very talented long term player for the Tigers.

I am hoping that Rosas & Owens return this week – just to fatten their prices a bit more.

But from the AFL website article, it sounds like Owens is no chance to return 🙁

Also, I reckon Preuss should get a “negative 3” in this award for this week – after I held him through his illness (when really needed during the byes), then he was subbed off for only 17 points when he finally returns, and then he injured Tim English in the short time he was out there!!

    1. Pruess should get a negative for every move he made this round……starting from getting out of bed…….

    2. Thanks Brett, with the injury issues this week we may miss on Parnell but with D’Ambrosio hopefully still in the side we can get him instead.

Preuss might just be ineligible to win it after the issues he gave us from round 14.
