Rookie Review – Round 16 2022

Written by Alza on July 5 2022

Finals are fast approaching with only 3 more rounds to go before they start. With the injuries we have all likely copped over the last month we have relied on rookies to carry us through but hopefully this week we can finally have our full premo teams on the park.

Players on the bubble are shown with an asterisk.

Callum BROWN (FWD)GWS$182,900102 (102)-
Jase BURGOYNE (MID)PTA$117,30065 (65)-

The Good: What a game from Daicos, he had 37 touches at 84% on all parts of the ground. Topped it off with 3 clearances, 2 goal assists and 674 metres gained for the coaches that still have him and some lucky enough to have him on field. Brown played his first game for the year in slippery conditions. He kicked 4.1 from his 13 touches which went at a decent 77% with 7 contested possessions. He also took 4 marks and laid 6 tackles to reach the ton. Wehr from the same game also scored well. He had 15 touches, 3 tackles and kicked 2 goals. He had 9 contested possessions to boost his score but was held back from 4 clangers and 53% efficiency. D’Ambrosio was on the bubble this week and didn’t he deliver in their upset win. He had 23 touches at 78% and took 6 marks. This came from a nice 89% TOG showing the faith the coaches have in him at this level.

The Bad: Bazzo is playing as a key back at the moment and will have up and down scores like this. He ended up with 9 touches at 100% and 1 mark.

Zane TREWWCE$123,90049 (49-
James TSITASGCS$102,40026 (26)-

The Good: Tunstill played his 2nd game in the Lions big win. He had 11 touches at 82% as well as taking 5 marks, 340 metres gained and kicked a goal. After this performance he should have solid job security at least for the next few weeks.

The Bad: It’s not his fault but Tsitas only had 35% TOG on his debut from the starting line-up and he wasn’t subbed out either. From this limited time he had 5 touches at 100% and took 3 marks.

The Good: Lazzaro returned from a long injury lay off to play his 3rd game in a heavy defeat. He finished with 16 touches at 81% with 5 marks as a solid contributor considering his age. Hobbs was a semi late inclusion and showed that he never should have been dropped to start with. He was influential in the last quarter as he was thrown in the middle to help the Bombers come back and win. For the day he had 19 touches with 9 contested, 5 marks, 3 clearances and kicked a goal. He was held back by poor use and 5 clangers. His last quarter stats were 10 touches with 6 contested and 3 intercepts, 2 marks, 2 tackles and 3 clearances so he is a bit unlucky to not have scored even higher.

The Bad: Spicer was the sub but played a decent amount of the game with 64%. The small forward had 2 kicks which were both behinds netting him 0% efficiency and laid 3 tackles. Rioli would’ve had a decent game had he used the ball better, only using it at 57%. He had 7 touches with 3 marks, 2 tackles and a goal.

    1. Played VFL on the weekend. Could come back in soon. GC bought him in fairly quickly earlier in the season before he got injured again.

    2. He might play again this year but it feels like they gave him some games as a bit of a send off for his service to the club. Just a gut feel no facts to back that up
