Rookie Review – Round 6 2022

Written by Alza on April 26 2022

And just like that a lot of our rookies have seen their break evens sky rocket. Some of them will be okay to hold as their break even should drop once their low score drops out while others have had a couple poor scores and should be first on the chopping block. Depending on how much money you need for upgrades my advice would be to trade out the guys with the potential to miss their break even by the most. Rachele and Horne-Francis have scored higher than their break evens previously while there other who haven’t or usually wouldn’t like Durdin. This being said, players that aren’t playing like McCartin won’t lose any money this week so he could be held.

Players on the bubble are shown with an asterisk.

Nick DAICOS (MID)COL$381,700 (+$27.4k)71 (85)80

The Good: Josh Gibcus had a fantastic game with 18 touches at 89% with 12 marks and 6 intercepts, great boost to his cash gen for the next few weeks. Daicos had a big last quarter to give him a decent score. He ended with 23 touches and 6 tackles, has a fairly high break even but he is worth holding in our sides.

The Bad: Kreuger suffered an unfortunate injury to his shoulder again and will miss significant time. Stein had a quiet game with just the 5 touches while Boyd was the sub again and had 8 touches at 88% and 5 marks. McCartin was subbed out in the 3rd quarter due to concussion so he will miss a week, they have said it was more precautionary although he did fail the test.

Jackson HATELYADE$188,70032 (32)-

The Good: Callaghan played in his 2nd game and had 18 touches at 83% with 7 contested touches, he’s expensive but may be worth getting in if you rate him as he should have decent job security. JHF bounced back with a decent return with 19 touches, 13 of them contested but was held back with 5 clangers.

The Bad: McInnes had a quiet game playing in the forward pocket with his 2 touches resulting in 1.1. Hately got his chance but failed to make the most of it with 13 touches but used them poor at 46% with 5 clangers.

RUCKS

Jack HAYES (FWD)STK$258,800 (+$16.8k)16 (75)29
Luke STRNADICAWCE$102,40056 (56)-

Preuss returned to the side and rewarded the coaches that brought him in with 117. He went large in the 2nd half when the Saints had no preferred ruckman to finish with 47 hitouts from 69 contests, 13 touches at 50% with 5 clangers and he kicked 1.1. S. Hayes played his 2nd game and was great with 11 touches and 47 hitouts, will be a very popular downgrade target this week. Unfortunately Jack Hayes has done his ACL and will miss the rest of the year, he has been an excellent pick but will now need to be traded.

The Good: Martin had another great game nearly cracking the ton on the back of 22 touches at 82% with 7 marks. The ANZAC medalist Ginnivan kicked 5 goals straight from his 12 touches, could’ve had a bigger score if he didn’t have 5 clangers and use the ball at 58%. Ronke had a good game with his 2nd half being the standout kicking his 3 goals, great pick up for those that jumped on. Dempsey made his debut and played well with 16 touches of which 9 were contested as well as kicking 1.1 and having 8 score involvements.

The Bad: Lohmann suffered a bad ankle injury and had to be subbed out halfway through the 2nd term. Rachele only managed the 9 touches at a poor 33% and failed to kick a goal, his break even is 85 which is high but he could score that if you have bigger issues to take care of. MacDonald held his spot once again but only managed 9 touches and a goal.

The Ugly: Durdin had a poor game only registering 5 touches with 3 marks sending his break even up to 60. Dow was subbed out in the 3rd quarter after having 7 touches and Baldwin played a full game for his 3 touch, 4 hitout game.

  1. All rookies that are getting on the bubble seem to be in ruck or forward positions. This is where I wonder what to do with Mccartin in defence or Rachele in my midfield. Hard to downgrade to a rookie on the bubble that has value as little are available. It will make for an interesting call

    1. And putting him onfield. All in. Richmond have been a good team to score against in the mids, and i keep waiting for Ward or McDonald to have their good game, but it just doesn’t come.
