Round 19 Review

Written by Dane on July 25 2022

Richmond (7.10.52) drew with Fremantle (7.10.52)

 1. Hayden Young (139). Starred off the half-back line in this game to register a career best 31 touches and 14 marks which he used at 83% DE with just the 1 clanger for his second best score of the season. Averaging 93 with huge breakout potential next year but will be priced awkwardly.

2. Luke Ryan (128). Back to back 128’s for Ryan who is averaging a point more than Young. Had 24 touches, 11 marks and 6 tackles for his seventh ton of the year.

3. Brennan Cox/Nick Vlastuin (118). Another Freo defender features here and that Cox, who found his best score of the year from 23 touches and 7 marks while running at 91% DE, while Vlastuin is now averaging 105 after putting up his fourth ton on five games thanks to 23 touches, 6 marks and 6 tackles.

4. Jordan Clark (106). A mini breakout for Clark this year who is averaging 87, up 27 points on his previous best season average. Fifth ton of the season here from 24 touches and 7 marks.

5. Dion Prestia/Kamdyn McIntosh/James Aish (104). First ton since round 11 for Prestia as he found 30 touches (16 contested)with 8 clearances in the Tigers midfield while McIntosh had 16 touches, 6 marks, 6 tackles and 1 goal. Aish had ton number three of 2022 from 23 touches, 8 marks and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Zilch

Disappointment: Multiple offenders here, with Brayshaw (79) and Short (76) being the really popular options, while some others players with a solid ownership % to disappoint were Nankervis (49), Baker (62) and Daniel Rioli (64).

Rookies: Oh what a score it could’ve been for Noah Cumberland if he’d slotted that final chance, but a third up 72 from 12 touches, 6 tackles and 1 goal will still see him increase in price very well. Sonsie once again looked composed in his second game and is now on the bubble after producing a second up score of 52 from 11 touches and 1 goal.

Injuries: Skipper Nat Fyfe was subbed off in the third with a hamstring injury unfortunately, while Ben Miller was subbed off for the Tigers in the fourth.

North Melbourne (11.9.75) defeated by Hawthorn (19.7.121)

1. Jack Gunston (136). Vintage Gunston performance this as the Hawks forward snagged 5.4 from 17 touches and 7 marks, his third ton of the season.

2. Tom Mitchell (125). Vintage performance here from Mitchell as well as he gathered 32 touches with 7 marks and 4 tackles in the Hawks midfield while running at 90% DE for the game.

3. Jai Newcombe/Dylan Moore (124). Fourth ton of the year for Newcombe and this one set a career best Supercoach score thanks to 30 touches (15 contested), 9 clearances, 2 goals and 580 metres gained. Moore is averaging 114 since the bye, with this score coming courtesy of 25 touches and 7 tackles while running at 88% DE with no clangers.

4. Aaron Hall (119). Came in as a late replacement and made it to triple figures on the back of 30 touches, 7 marks and a game high 745 metres to dangle the carrot in front of us once more in 2022.

5. Blake Hardwick (112).
Second ton in three weeks for Hardwick who is capturing some of that 2021 form that saw him average 91. Had 23 touches and 7 marks at 91% DE this week.

Other 100+ scores: Ben McKay (107), Jaeger O’Meara (106), Luke Davies-Uniacke (104)

Disappointment: Ruckman Todd Goldstein only scored 75 in this one. Sympkin, who I’ve seen in a few teams as a budget M8 or M9 loop, couldn’t break a tag and finished on 26.

Rookies: Plenty of rookies in this game from our early season teams but with no standout scores or debuts, I’ll leave this section pretty empty.

Injuries: No subs used in this one so hopefully no mystery injuries later in the week!

Sydney (17.16.118) defeated Adelaide (12.13.85)

1. Rory Laird/Sam Berry (140). Laird was a popular choice for the VC and, as he has all season long, delivered with another insane game of 38 touches (21 contested), 14 inside 50’s, 11 clearances, 6 tackles, 1 goal and 848 metres gained. Berry has also been very good this season, gaining over 200K in price and this was a career best score thanks to 24 touches (20 contested), 7 clearances, 14 tackles and 2 goals.

2. Tom Papley (127). Third ton in a row for Papley and fourth out of his last five. 22 touches (11 contested), with 5 clearances and 2 goals plus 5 tackles for his game.

3. Dylan Stephens (118). Congrats if you held from the very early parts of the season, but for many of us wish this score came much earlier. 25 touches (12 contested), 6 tackles and 1 goal, leading to a career best score.

4. Ben Keays (111). Poor last week but solid here in the Crows midfield, finding 22 touches (14 contested), 7 clearacnes and 12 tackles.

5. Chad Warner (110). Pretty much solidified himself into my 2023 starting lineup now, so I’m hoping a quiet finish to the season can keep his price around 520-40K. Another 25 touches, 535 metres gained, 8 tackles and 1 goal this week.

Other 100+ scores: Isaac Heeney (106), Reilly O’Brien (101)

Disappointment: Swans backman Jake Lloyd is still pretty popular despite dropping his previous season average by 15 points, but this 65 was the second worst of his season.

Rookies: Poor scores from the majority of those who started around or below 200K, so hopefully you didn’t have to run with them. Small shoutout to Jake Soligo for his score of 80.

Injuries: Crows forward McAdam copped a corkie early in the contest that was iced up later in the game.

Port Adelaide (14.10.94) defeated by Geelong (16.10.106)

1. Tom Hawkins (141). Snagged the final two goals of a tight game to boost his score, finishing with 15 touches (12 contested), 6 marks and 4 goals for the game.

2. Charlie Dixon (136). In very good form currently, not dipping below 96 in his past 6 games. Had 23 touches (15 contested) with 7 marks, 7 hitouts and 2 goals in this one for his best score of the year.

3. Aliir Aliir/Tom Atkins (117). First ton of the year for Aliir who had 23 touches and 11 marks down back, while Atkins played a great final quarter to boost himself to this score, ultimately finishing with 24 touches (14 contested), 5 clearances and 7 tackles.

4. Ryan Burton (113). Solid game from Burton across the half-back line as he found 24 touches, 8 marks and 5 tackles for his sixth ton of 2022.

5. Zak Butters (106). Rounded out the top five with this 20 touch, 5 tackle game that went at 90% DE with no clangers. Averaging 90 so hasn’t been the breakout we all hoped for.

Other 100+ scores: Travis Boak (103)

Disappointment: Poor scores again in this one from numerous semi-popular picks in Wines (66), Guthrie (83), Cameron (82), Duncan (71), Blicavs (58), and i personally can’t remember Patrick Dangerfield scored 24 from a full game of footy.

Rookies: Jase Burgoyne played game three and had a solid 58 from 11 touches and 5 tackles, while Neale (123K F) was subbed on for 6 touches and 11 hitouts and 33 points. Also, by technicality, Jed McEntee played game three after spending 2 as an unused sub, scoring 50 from 13 touches and 1 goal.

Injuries: Defender Dan Houston was subbed off with concussion after copping some friendly fire, while for the Cats it was Stanley with a knee injury.

Western Bulldogs (17.8.110) defeated Melbourne (15.10.100)

1. Marcus Bontempelli (161). Willed his team to victory in the final term, gathering around 55-60 points in that time. In the end he had 26 touches (19 contested), 10 clearances, 9 tackles and 1 goal.

2. Max Gawn (147). Like Bont, played an elite final term to boost his score. 25 touches (13 contested), 5 clearances, 8 marks and 40 hitouts for his eighth ton of the year and first since round 12.

3. Ed Richards (126). Career best score from Richards on the back of a career best 24 touches off half-back that ran at 95% DE. Also had 8 marks, 4 tackles and 442 metres gained.

4. Tim English/Angus Brayshaw (122). English returned to the big scores here with a 20 touch, 10 mark game that was paired with 19 hitouts and 2 goals, while Brayshaw hit his nith ton of the season thanks to 29 touches, 11 marks and 565 metres gained.

5. Bailey Smith (113). Found plenty of it on the outside of the contest, registering 28 touches with 5 tackles and 5 clearances to round out the top 5.

Other 100+ scores: Steven May (109), Bailey Dale (105)

Disappointment: Once again goes to Josh Dunkley for his score of 67, in which champion data recorded 8 clangers from his 24 touches. Viney (61) also down.

Rookies: Nothing to cover here.

Injuries: Adam Treloar was playing a great game off half-back until he was subbed off with a calf issue late in the game.

Brisbane (16.14.110) defeated Gold Coast (14.9.93)

1. Touk Miller (157). Another massive game from Touk, his fourth 150+ score of the year. Had 34 touches (13 contested) to pair with 7 tackles and 604 metres gained.

2. Noah Anderson (135). Along with Chad Warner, looks like he’ll be locked into my starting midfield in 2023 after amassing another 31 touches (13 contested) that had a game high 642 metres gained.

3. Lachie Neale (123). Great effort again in the Q Clash victory from the Lions main midfielder, finding 32 touches (18 contested) plus 10 clearances that ran at a very good 81% DE.

4. Brandon Ellis (121). Fifth ton for Ellis this season after he found 29 touches and 2 goals running around freely most of the evening.

5. Hugh McCluggage (106). Averaging 106 (just about) and scored just that in this game from 25 touches, 8 marks, 1 goal and solid 84% DE.

Other 100+ scores: Callum Ah Chee/Dayne Zorko (103)

Disappointment: Once again this goes to Jarrod Witts (86), who seemingly got criminally underscored if you look at his statline.

Rookies: Pre-season favorite Elijah Hollands finally got a shot at the big time here and was really good with 10 touches, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 2 goals and 64 points in his debut game.

Injuries: Unfortunately a knee to the head of Rich left him dazed and subbed off with concussion, while Ballard had a knee injury that saw him subbed off.

Carlton (13.12.90) defeated GWS (8.6.54)

1. Adam Saad (136). Spectacular game off half-back with 25 touches at 92% DE with just 1 clanger while gaining 581 metres and also hauling in a career high 12 marks.

2. Harry Himmelberg (130). Remember when he first came into contention and there was still a feeling he probably wouldnt hold his scoring? Well, he’s proven since that the role and scoring are here to stay with another splendid performance of 25 touches, 7 marks and 617 metres gained.

3. Matthew Kennedy (120). Averaging a solid 97 in 2022 with this being his eighth ton thanks to 27 touches (10 contested) witn 6 tackles and no clangers.

4. Harry McKay (119). Season best score from McKay who found 18 touches and 10 marks while also slotting 2.3 for the game.

5. Patrick Cripps (118). Back to the bigger scores this week as he found 34 touches (10 contested) along with 6 marks, 4 tackles and 1 goal for his first ton since round 13.

Other 100+ scores: Tim Taranto (113), Charlie Curnow (112), Sam Walsh (111), Nic Newman (108), Stephen Coniglio (106)

Disappointment: Another player to fall into the completely underscored club this week was Docherty (73), who had 26 touches and 10 marks at 76% DE with 5 clangers. It seems that if you star slow this season, it holds back your scoring in the rest of the game, has anyone else thought this? Isaac Cumming (62) has had some rough scores since peaking at 525K.

Rookies: None to cover in this game.

Injuries: Also nothing to cover here.

Collingwood (12.8.80) defeated Essendon (11.10.76)

1. Zach Merrett (133). Continued his outstanding form with another massive game of 38 touches (15 contested) with 9 clearances and a game high 630 metres gained.

2. Dyson Heppell (114). Sixth ton of the season for the former skipper who played off a wing in this one to find 26 touches and 11 marks.

3. Will Snelling (108). First ton of Snellings 2022 campaign this round as he found 20 touches, 5 marks and 8 tackles while being that link man between the flanks.

4. Dylan Shiel/Sam Draper (102). Shiel has been in solid form since the bye and that continued with another 30 touch game that gained over 500 metres, while Draoer made it back-to-back tons thanks to his 16 touches (11 contested), 7 clearances, 1 goal and 16 hitouts.

5. Nic Martin/Nick Hind (91). A couple of Nic/ks finish up the top five scores here in an unfamiliar scoring range, the low 90’s. Martin continued his outstanding debut season with another 22 touches and 1 goal, while Hind had 19 touches and 7 marks while running at 94% DE.

Other 100+ scores: Zilch

Disappointment: Plenty of them with some very weirdly low scoring in this game, with the best Pies score being 90 from Josh Daicos, so any other Pie you may own probably falls into this category.

Rookies: Couple of Collingwood rookies in Josh Carmichael (third game, subbed on) and Ash Johnson (2nd game) featured here. The former slotted 2 goals from 5 touches for 33 points, while the latter snagged 3, all in the first term from 6 touches for 61 points.

Injuries: A shoulder injury ruined Maynards day, while a heavy collision ruled the inform Redman out of the game.

West Coast (10.2.62) defeated St Kilda (14.6.90)

1. Brad Crouch (147). Massive game from Crouch, 2 points off his career best. Had 31 touches (15 contested), 5 marks, 11 tackles, 8 clearances and 1 goal boosting him ton his ninth ton of the year.

2. Jack Steele (143). Looks like Steele is back to his scoring ways after the past fortnight. Had a career best 40 touches (14 contested), 11 clearances, 10 marks and 8 tackles in this one.

3. Tom Barrass (132). In elite form and is seemingly gaining a few more points for that, but if he keeps producing games of 26 touches (13 contested) plus 8 marks, it’s pretty understandable.

4. Jack Sinlair (117). Fifteenth ton for Sinclair in 2022, this week reaching that mark thanks to 27 touches (11 contested) that ran at 83% DE.

5. Seb Ross (104). Ninth ton for Ross in 2022 here as he found 27 touches (11 contested) with 5 marks and 4 tackles to round out the top 5.

Other 100+ scores: Zilch

Disappointment: Rough day for Tim Kelly (11) who copped a hard tag to find just 4 touches of the ball, while also recording 5 clangers in a full game of footy.

Rookies: Another really promising game from Jai Culley who had 19 touches, 7 tackles and 1 goal for 76 points and should hopefully play the final four games of the season as the Eagles give the kids a chance.

Injuries: Gresham had a knee issue that saw him put on ice late in the game, while Billings didn’t last long with a back issue.
