Round 7

Melbourne (12.11.83) defeated Richmond (9.9.63)

  1. Max Gawn (174). Monstered his way to this score on Thursday and sat out most of the last quarter. 25 touches (13 contested) with 9 marks (5 contested) plus 6 clearances and 34 hitouts.
  2. Jake Bowey (132). Racked up touches for fun on the outside with 32 disposals to his name at solid 72% DE. Also had 9 marks and 5 clearances.
  3. Christian Petracca (129). Popular trade target this week and for good reason, Trac was back. 2 goals, 28 touches with 7 marks and 6 inside 50s.
  4. Tom Sparrow (118). 16 touches and 1 goal for Sparrow but it was the massive 11 tackles that boosted his score.
  5. Trent Rivers (115). Rounds out an all Demons top five with 28 touches, 12 marks and 87% DE.

Other 100+ scores: Christian Salem (110), Toby Nankervis (106), Steven May (104)

Disappointment: Short (78) had enough of it but used it poorly.

Rookies: Lynch (80) led the way for the Richmond rookies, slotting 3 goals. Trainor (66) was back to his solid scores after escaping the sub vest, while Lalor (46) led debutant Gray (41), Green (34) and third gamer Faull (15). The Demons were led by Lindsay (78) and Langford (68) but followed by poor scores from Spargo (36), Fullerton (30) and Sharp (12).

Injuries: Nothing on the injury reports to start the round, Tholstrup and Gray on debut, the subs.

Collingwood (16.11.107) defeated Essendon (10.6.66)

  1. Steele Sidebottom (134). Won the ANZAC Day medal for his BOG performance of 35 touches (22 contested) plus a massive 15 clearances as well as 598 metres gained.
  2. Jamie Elliott (129). Most dominant forward on the day as Elliott slotted 5 goals from 19 touches and 8 marks.
  3. Jeremy Howe (126). Boosted his score with elite DE of 95% across wet conditions. Had 21 touches overall with 9 marks attached.
  4. Darcy Cameron/Nick Daicos (125). Cameron was solid once again (no disrespect to Gokdstein, he was very solid), but the Pies ruckman took the chocolates with 16 touches, 1 goal and 35 hitouts. Nick Daicos was once again super, running everywhere to find 31 touches, 7 tackles and 1 goal.
  5. Scott Pendlebury (110). Rounds out an all Pies top five (six realistically) with 31 touches (13 contested).

Other 100+ scores: Josh Daicos (106), Brayden Maynard (102), Jordan Ridley (101), Sam Durham (100)

Disappointment: Has to be Nic Martin who could only muster 53.

Rookies: The Reid (90) and Prior (43) conundrum had another chapter, while Kako (49) met his BE but Menzie (8) struggled. Just Ned Long (87) for the Pies, who has quickly moved out of rookie status.

Injuries: McStay (knee) and Jones (ankle) the subs for their respective clubs.

Fremantle (12.13.85) defeated Adelaide (9.13.67)

  1. Andrew Brayshaw (157). Brownlow form so far from the Fremantle gun. Another great game of 37 touches (17 contested) with 8 inside 50s and over 500 metres gained, no clangers either.
  2. Izak Rankine (120). A return to the big scores form Rankine who had 19 touches, 1 goal and 6 tackles.
  3. Jordan Clark (114). 27 touches off half-back from Clark, over 500 metres gained and 4 tackles as well.
  4. Caleb Serong/Reilly O’Brien (108). 32 touches (19 contested) for Serong and not much else, handball happy with 26 of them. ROB was solid again with 14 touches, 6 marks, 5 tackles and 30 hitouts.
  5. Josh Treacy (107). Rounds out this games top five with a 2 goal, 15 touch game with 7 marks.

Other 100+ scores: Hayden Young (103), Shai Bolton (102), Alex Neal-Bullen/Josh Worrell (101), Rory Laird (100)

Disappointment: Jordan Dawson is such a great kick but that’s the issue, always trying to pull off the hero kick, which brings clangers and low DE. Just 76 here.

Rookies: McDonald (85) will come into calculations for DEF downgrades after a strong game, while Worner (69) has another solid money making game. Reid (35) struggled all game and needs to go next week now, while Dudley (35 too) was subbed out. Narkle (6) made his third club debut but didn’t do a heap after coming on as the sub. Just the usual two for the Crows, Curtin (41) and Draper (5).

Injuries: Thilthorpe is listed with a finger but he played on, Crouch was the sub. Dockers had a clean card with Dudley being subbed out.

St Kilda (11.7.73) defeated by Brisbane (17.16.118)

  1. Lachie Neale (139). The Saints thought it would be a good idea to let a 2x Brownlow winner in around by himself. 3 goals, 31 touches, 3 votes.
  2. Rowan Marshall (133). Despite a few down weeks Marshall had a ripper here. 18 touches, 1 goal and 40 hitouts.
  3. Zac Bailey (119). Dangerous all day in that link role. Kicked 3 goals from 24 touches while also hauling in 5 marks and laying 5 tackles.
  4. Oscar McInerney (116). Performed as usual in the ruck contest. 14 touches, 1 goal, 6 tackles and 25 hitouts to his midfield group.
  5. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (111). Started really slow but as good premiums do, powered on the finish with 32 touches, 1 goal and 682 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Hugh McCluggage (108), Jack Steele (107), Darcy Wilmot (105), Eric Hipwood/Dayne Zorko (104), Brad Hill/Callum Wilkie (101), Josh Dunkley (100)

Disappointment: Macrae (77) was down on form again, thank god almost everyone has him.

Rookies: Second gamer Tunstill was the sub and hence, only scored 13, while Levi Ashcroft was serviceable again with 68 but his cash will dry up soon unless we start seeing some scores of 80+. Hall (82) was really good for the Saints but Collard (28) and Keeler (14) were quiet.

Injuries: Concussion unfortunately for Mason Wood, but it wasn’t before Garcia was subbed early. Lohmann returned from an ankle injury but left the game with a shoulder issue in the third.

Port Adelaide (14.13.97) defeated North Melbourne (13.10.88)

  1. Zak Butters (162). Another stalker performance from Butters. 27 touches, 13 tackles and 5 clearances in a hard fought win.
  2. Tristan Xerri (158). Best score of the year from X. 23 touches (18 contested), 1 goal, 7 clearances and 39 hitouts.
  3. Harry Sheezel (130). Dominate in a backline role. 30 touches, good DE and 604 metres gained.
  4. George Wardlaw (120). 20 touches for Wardlaw but important as North mounted a charge. 1 goal and 7 inside 50s.
  5. Connor Rozee (118). Rounds out the top five in a largely defensive role again, this week finding 27 touches, slotting 1 goal and having 721 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Luke Davies-Uniacke (114), Williem Drew (113), Jason Horne-Francis (111), Paul Curtis (106), Tom Powell (101)

Disappointment: Hot start but Simpkin (53) has tempered off as the season continues. McKercher (54) has seen too many role changes.

Rookies: Powell-Pepper (98) provided again with an impactful game up forward, as did young forward Lord (95). Moraes (55) was better than previous weeks and Berry (44) played his role. Hardeman (58) led the Roos, after him was O’Sullivan (50), Konstanty (35) and Duursma (21).

Injuries: Concussion for Power defender Sinn, he was subbed in the second. Tucker the sub for North, tactically.

GWS (12.9.81) defeated by Western Bulldogs (17.11.113)

  1. Lachie Ash (140). Making his way in #1 defender pretty quickly. 31 touches, 7 marks, 94% DE and 542 metres gained.
  2. Marcus Bontempelli (128). Subbed out at 3QT but had such an influence that he still finished so high. 22 touches (15 contested) with 8 clearances and 4 goal assists.
  3. Tom Liberatore (125). Kept his ton run going with 28 touches (11 contested) plus 5 clearances and 4 tackles.
  4. James Harmes (120). Kicked 4 majors from his 22 touches in a forward/midfield split.

Other 100+ scores: Finn Callaghan (116), Joel Freijah (114), Jack Buckley (110), Lachie Whitfield (104), Jake Riccardi (103), Tim English (100)

Disappointment: I can’t wait to trade Bailey Dale (70) out, been a shocking pick after his hot start.

Rookies: First game for Busslinger (57) and he was solid for the Dogs, top scoring out of their rookies that included Cleary (52), Davidson (51), Hynes (6) and Dolan (4). Stone (78) the only Giant and returned his best of the season.

Injuries: Clean cards here, Bontempelli and Ward the subs.

Gold Coast (17.15.117) defeated Sydney (12.7.79)

  1. Bailey Humphrey (151). Heavily traded out this week and shoved it right back in our faces with a 4 goal, 18 touch game.
  2. Jarrod Witts (125). Another ton for Witts in a solid win. 18 touches and 28 hitouts.
  3. Chad Warner (121). Super underpriced for his potential which he showed here. 2 goals, 24 touches and 6 tackles.
  4. Matt Roberts (117). Another ton for Roberts as he found 28 touches and 7 marks across half-back with 596 metres gained.
  5. Isaac Heeney (109). 1 goal and 20 touches from Heeney in a split role. Had solid DE of 80% to boost his score.

Other 100+ scores: John Noble (106), Dan Rioli (103), Touk Miller/Riley Bice (101)

Disappointment: Rowell super quiet with just 69.

Rookies: Bice (101) was really good again and is currently the last rookie we should be looking to upgrade. Cleary (89) was solid too and came in ahead of Warner (55), Paton (36) and Hanily (5). Just tall forwards Walter (71) and Read (36) for the Suns.

Injuries: Clean sheet for the Suns with Ainsworth the sub. Paton returned but suffered a calf injury.

Carlton (14.10.94) defeated Geelong (12.4.76)

  1. Tom De Koning (135). After a few quieter weeks, TDK bounced back with 1 goal, 20 touches and 39 hitouts to be super in the Blues win.
  2. Harry McKay (130). Presented all day and found 12 marks because of it. Overall had 19 touches and 3 goals too.
  3. Bailey Smith (120). 29 disposals and 1 goal plus 9 tackles for Baz as well as 749 metres gained.
  4. Sam Walsh (110). Found a game best 30 disposals with 80% DE to boost his score.
  5. Sam Mannagh (109). 11 tackles and 26 touches for Mannagh to pair with 7 clearances and 566 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Mitch McGovern (106), Patrick Cripps (104), George Hewett (103), Ollie Hollands (102), Elijah Hollands (101), Tom Atkins (100)

Disappointment: Max Holmes (70), horrible on debut for me.

Rookies: O’Sullivan (95) was heavily traded out this week but performed really well on Sunday, leading the cats rookies that this week only included debutant Wiltshire (25). The Blues had Carroll (54), White (45) and Motlop (15).

Injuries: Williams suffered a calf injury while first gamer Wiltshire was the sub for Geelong.

Hawthorn (18.16.124) defeated West Coast (11.8.74)

  1. Lloyd Meek (161). Super game from Meek. 58 hitouts was the standout but also had 19 touches and 4 tackles.
  2. Mabior Chol (116). Pulled down a few screamers on the day and overall had 3 goals from 17 disposals and 9 marks.
  3. Harry Morrison (110). 22 touches with 12 contested plus 1 goal for Morrison in a busy Hawks forward line.
  4. Dylan Moore (108). Same can be said for Moore, kept busy with 17 touches, 7 marks and 1 goal.
  5. Jack Ginnivan (106). Back in the seniors and like those others above him, performed well. 17 touches, 2 goals and 7 tackles.

Other 100+ scores: Matt Flynn (105), James Worpel (104), Josh Battle (103), Liam Baker (102), Jack Gunston/Jai Newcombe (100)

Disappointment: No one super relevant failed here, maybe just Maric (87), but he was the third best scorer for the Eagles.

Rookies: Hustwaite (72) found plenty of it on debut, while Bailey Macdonald (16) came on as the sub. Hewett (65) led the Eagles rookies that included Davis (46), Reid (33) and Dewar (12).

Injuries: A double dose of concussion for Hawks pair Scrimshaw and Amon, Eagles unscathed with Davis the sub.

  1. Playing my arch rival and we had same players in last 2 games- but in GCoast game I had points up my sleeve and Rowell, and he had Cleary. Cleary’s 89 gets him home by 5 points.
Super Coach Gods why have you forsaken me!
