With Tom Stewart missing up to a month with that dreaded MCL injury, many coaches are asking what are the options to replace him.
Is it as simple as sideways to another $600k premo and work on getting Stewart back later. Or could we downgrade by $70 – $100k plus to one of the bolters we missed in round one, and use the cash to sort some issues before the price rises. Maybe we look at swapping him out for a top rookie we may have missed and upgrading to a premo elsewhere that slipped through our round one grasp.
Give the coaches with this decision some insight to the thoughts of the site.
First up, which of the three theories would you recommend.
So, if it is to sideways which of the big four would you go to.
If your thinking is to downgrade to around that $500k mark, who do you go for.
If theory three is high on your agenda, which rookies?
With this amount of data to digest, a poll is not the exact science we need to make informed decisions, but it helps. Please feel free to clarify any/all of you choices in the comments section for a better overall understanding.

Sideways trade for one of Doch, Dawson or Sicily for me. Too small of a sample size after only round 1 to go for Daicos or Young. Port have already said they are looking to target him this weekend.
Young played against a makeshift Saints FWD line and took advantage. Along with Ryan and Cox.
I tend to agree Dusty. A few good points there mate. Do you think the captaincy will affect Sicily?
Thanks mate, watch them both come out with another ripper score this weekend now!
I don’t think captaincy will affect Sic at all, seemed to be doing his usual thing on Sunday. Seemed like the Hawks were just kicking it back to him at times so he could try and set them up from HB.
You should be a Supercoach coach if that makes sense haha. Plenty of handy tips for me today, thankyou mate!
Hahah appreciated mate. In by means no expert just sharing my opinion which is never always correct!
First time commenter long time reader and Supercoach lover! I’ve gone risky this year with a lot of rookies and midpricers but basically I think there’s a lot of value out there this year. I have Docherty already just for reliability and I love his determination after his health battles…strong character! I have cash to upgrade Jones so I’m thinking Ryan is a good option. Connor McKenna was always a lock for me at his price although I’d love to see him still at the mighty Bombers haha. Does anyone have some thoughts on Rampe the goal post climber? Great score but I’m not sure if he will average enough or be consistent enough to justify using a trade. Anyway good luck to everyone for the season and I hope everyone is well!
I’d put Rampe’s game down to opposition, Suns seemed to have no direction or structure going forward and he cleaned up. Rampe was also one of the few players to be clean on a greasy night. If you were considering him before the season started and liked what you saw on the weekend then go for it but chasing points is never a great idea.
Round 1 always throws a spanner in the works, I remember Clinton Jones from the Saints scoring 152 round 1 awhile ago to then average 70 for the rest of season.
Cheers mate, much appreciated! I’ve actually gone points chasing early numerous times over the years and it usually buggers me haha.
Holding Stewart. Just have to cover his 20pts. Will be a great pod to make up for everyone jumping on JHF.
Yeah smart move, easy to cover 20 points each week hahaha
Yes. I got close to 2100.
He could be back in 2. Never know.
Worry about bad players first. Hopper other midpricers and Ashcroft are more concerning.
Can trade Stewart any time.
Medical info I saw said he’d be out 3-4 weeks. That’s a lot of cash to sit on your bench for a month.
Have sic, Stewart and doc already. No obvious trade came up
Until, Stewart and hopper out and ridley and Richards in.
Going with this now. Leaves 5k in the bank so seems perfect.
Meant sic DAWSON and doc already.
I’m looking at going more for either Daicos or Dawson since I own Doc.
Dawson had 8 kick-ins sharing with Smith with 6. Sicily only 1 and then Wanganeen-Milera had 5,where Sinclair had 4.
Daicos frees a lot of cash and performed well, but being 1 game and still potential tags coming causes doubts.
Might go more Daicos since he is in more teams and that cash could help upgrade to a premo earlier
The ‘Which rookies who scored 70+ would be worth the downgrade?’ question also helps with what to do about Liam Jones. Anyone holding?
Think Tom Cole is worth the downgrade for Jones if his ruled out. Should score similarly but just doesn’t have as high as ceiling. I am personally holding Jones if he plays. Looking at what the Freo backs did against that Saints FWD gives me hope he can bounce back. the 5 will be the first score out of his price cycle.
I have Cole, but not McKenna thats who I’ll take if I ditch him. I’m put off by the 78BE when he managed 5SC in 40% game time… But good point about price cycle.
No! Just holding a grudge against myself for picking him in the first place lol
If only Geelong didn’t play the first game, could possibly have taken a bench score to see how Young and Daicos went in another game
Went over replays of Sicily and Dawson games still not sure which way to go already have doc. Sic not really impacting seem to be playing bruise free footy and only one kick in very average but scores well when no one’s on him Dawson plays better than sic but scores less with 8 kick ins Very confused can anyone help both in sc and fantasy
Anyone else crazy (smart) and considering going Gunboat styled no premium defenders when trading Stewart out?
OUT : Stewart (my only premo) and Jones (if out)
IN : Yeo (if back), McKenna or Bonar
That’s $328k (if Yeo in) or $461k if Mckennan and Bonner to use in a boost trade elsewhere… its fwd rookie to Gulden type money.
TU – dumb
TD – dumb but please do it so we can laugh at you
contemplating Stewart to McKenna (80) and heaps of $$ the daicos sic dog Dawson types (100) might just work gets hopper
