Written by Motts on March 5 2020

TDA has thrown his team at us. He hasn’t justified any of his selections but will be happy to answer questions in Comments.

What do you think of it?

  1. This is personal prefference stuff, But i don’t like Dawson 96-97 so I don’t know if it’s real value, not sure of the value of Martin in mids too, like the Marshall pick though don’t have the balls myself.

    1. I imagine ye old Death Adder is planning to send Martin fwd, and pick up the rest of the Uber premium mids at discounted prices throughout the season. I’m leaning towards this idea too as it allows an extra mid-pricer in the fwds, keeping a low-scoring rookie off the field

    2. I think it’s pretty clear he’s given up on a pure guns and rookies style team due to the dearth of rookies, hence that Dawson, Doc, Roberton backline.

Marshall playing forward this week he just looks like too much of a risk to me. If Naismith makes Round 1 fit he’s a lock for mine.

The only spot I think there is enough rookie depth is the forward line, so starting Dusty in the mids to get as many cash cows in is a well thought out plan imho.

I’ve got 20 of these guys but in a different layout completely

  2. As I have said to you previously, I generally don’t like “mid priced madness” sides, but this I like.
One question / obvious player you’re not thinking about….
    Where is Zac Dawson?!

    1. No worries CM Punk if you want to back up your no idea claim on a team reveal before Marsh Series 2 then let’s have a $100 wager on who finishes higher overall this year which will then be donated to the SCT Prize money pool?

        1. You are a dill mate and as soft as butter. Stooping that low to get out of a bet is disgraceful.

I am lover not a fighter these days but still know how to handle myself as if you have won a Golden Gloves you forget how to handle yourself if you run into blonks like you.

          1. Come on TDA, let that sort of big boy stuff go through to the keeper.

            Good luck with SC team.

            Cheers

  3. Dawson was a late minute change when I sent my team thru to Mottsy last night after the Houston we have a problem. With Lloyd set to return in Marsh Series 2 I will have a better guide on Dawson and his role. A Starcevich at M9 can easily be swapped to a 117k or 123k rookie named round 1 which could enable me to grab a more proven D2 in Sicily. The Def/Fwd is the key to Dawson being able to swing him around with Hill and Brander. However if he bangs out 70s then that counts for nothing and he will be a flop.

Ideally I need to find the cash to get a Dunkley type at M5 rather than Martin.
If I did run with Martin at M5 one of my first trades would be to bring him down to F2. With a few risky DPP Mid-Pricers in the forward line it gives the team the structure if needed to swing one of them to the midfield when or if one of them flops early on to trade them up to a premo mid.

  4. Not sure that 1 player and a fwd in the mids make a whole SuperCoach team, but we will find out GD if I run that way.

Personally I think the Mid-Pricers are a much bigger risk than what you have pointed out.

    1. I actually agree with this. At this stage Gawn’s fitness is still a huge unknown, and spending 700K on a player who has yet to appear this pre-season is definitely a risk. I don’t mind the Marshall pick for that reason.
That forward line though, I’m not so sure about…

    2. The difference between Gawn v Marshall and then Dunkley/Bont/J. Kelly v Martin will matter in the long run I’m afraid, TDA.

Let’s say Marshall improves from last year’s 110 average to 120 this year- don’t think he will given Ryder’s arrival, but let’s grant you that. Will still trail Gawn OA:

      Gawn @ 130 x 22 = 2860
      Marshall @ 120 x 22 = 2640

That’s a difference of 220 points, plus Gawn’s a reliable VC/C and, again, I don’t think Marshall will press 120 with Ryder in the side.

220 points OA might not seem like a lot, but for some of SCT’s best like TR and Hammer that would have been the difference between 50k and nothing last year.

Same deal with having Dunkley, Bont or J. Kelly (any other top tier MID premo) v Dusty. Tigers are that good that they can keep Martin in that split FWD role in which he’ll probably go at 100 – 110 this year. Call it 105 and contrast that with a top tier MID premo:

      MID premo @ 125 x 22 = 2750
      Martin @ 105 x 22 = 2310

Difference of 440. Dusty’s not a bad pick, just needs to be in the FWD line.

Mid-pricers are risky, yes but it’s gambling as to what their output will be; whereas the output of Gawn and MID premos are a settled science – just start em’ imo.

Otherwise, team looks good. Best of luck, mate.

      1. Thanks GD for all those stats and I have been convinced to move Dusty back to F2 and move Tim Kelly to M5.

It is a big Gawn vs Marshall Watch this weekend though.

        1. Have you given ROB any thoughts?

I feel like he’ll score more than Marshall, he had a good midfield at his feet (someone will rebuke this claim with the hitouts to advantage stat).

Last year was ROB’s first year as an AFL ruckman, I think he can bridge the gap between Gawn & Grundy and the rest group of Goldy and Martin.

          1. ROB has appeared in my Team at one stage. My Rucks have changed from Gawn-ROB-Marshall and considering Marshall has the awkward Round 11 Bye Gawn and ROB have to come back into calculations dependant on structure and cashflow.

      2. Good luck getting a full 14 or 15 gun GnR team that can run through to round 6 without wearing either donuts or trades.

Look at the teams named for this week’s Marsh matches.

The rookies have evaporated or have disappeared onto 8 man or 11 man benches.

We need to accept that like the coming of the coronavirus this is potentially the year of the cowpocalypse. if there is enough rookies to go around trading two mid pricers out for a gun and a rookie is a lot easier than suddenly deciding at the last minute how you will fill 7 looming donuts for round 1

    1. I like the 3 mid pricers in the forward line. It gives you a balanced outcome – I’m guessing you’ll get 2 keepers out of the 3. Not sure which 2 but you’ve spread the risk… None of them should lose enough cash to cause you too much damage.

Plus, I love the ride in a few educated risks to get ahead.

Personally, I’ll be watching J Stevens on Monday as a safer mid price bet than someone like Brayshaw.

  5. You are right TOF it is screaming another UBER 600k Premo M4 mid as Tim Kelly ideally should be M5.

Thanks for all the positive feedback as it will definitely help me restructure my team.

  6. I’m also not keen on the mid prices. I have been burned in past seasons.
Not a fan of Brayshaw. And still not 100% on Roberton. With all that said it looks a pretty good side
