Rookie News –
Hawthorn: Ned Reeves Ruck $123k to debut Rd 10.
211cm 22yo ruckman. 2019 SSP selection.
Tallest ever player for Hawthorn.
Alastair Clarkson: “Ned has been on our list for three years. He needed to grow a stronger body to compete at AFL level, but we think he’s ready to have a crack at it.”
Nice! Someone to swap Flynn to next week and be rolling in cash!!!
Where have they been hiding this guy? So I had a read of Alza reserves article and he doesn’t get a mention in the best players, let’s see what his JS is like in a couple of weeks I guess.
To be honest I didn’t think he was that relevant with Big Boy and Ceglar, here are his scores with most recent first:
10 touches, 23 hitouts – 56
4 touches, 11 hitouts – 26
14 touches, 23 hitouts – 61
16 touches, 54 hitouts – 111
8 touches, 41 hitouts – 79
Been hiding him at Box Hill.
Dad and I have been whinging for weeks how he should be getting a go.
Clarkson is very set on his ideas, and seems to fixate on players to find a fault to not play them and keep playing favourites… regularly forcing them to stay in the 2s to address an issue in their play style EVEN when they are far better options than those running around in the 1s.
James Cousins? Finn Maginess?
In the end, I get that the coach sets the game plan and chooses players that suit that game plan.
But coaches often get it wrong, and end up damaging players careers and getting poor results by their preconceived notions of how things should be done rather than looking at the talents of the pool of players at their disposal and adapting their coaching style accordingly.
It should be much easier for the coach to come up with a new plan than to retrain and either bulk up or slim down players to suit that plan, because that stuff takes seasons and changing stuff on a whiteboard takes minutes.
Honestly, two of the worst clubs for that in the league right now have been Collingwood and Hawthorn.
It’s one thing to have been able to lead a great era at your club when you had the cattle. It’s another entirely to ignore or waste the talents of the kids you have and send the club to the cellar so you MIGHT be able to draft the same sort of talent pool you had 10 years ago.
A la Kevin Sheedy at Essendon.
He adapted to his baby bombers and gave them versatility and then coached them…….
Not like some teams that perhaps obtain players in the hope of increasing their public sensationalism to improve club profits.
…….and yes Wighty if I was a religious person, “Sheeds” would be above the clock on the mantle……..

No highmore… sigh
But Murphy
Omitted just in time to be my only viable loophole option this week. Feels weird having so many players playing
Highmore is an emergency so beware of possibility of being the medical sub?
Ah bless, thanks CT, I’ll keep that in mind
When are the final teams for Sunday going to be confirmed, tomorrow evening or Saturday evening?
Tomorrow evening
Awesome thanks CT
Waterman!
My hero
Good to see all those green ticks on my app. Looks like Flynn is getting another game. Also Jones back for Port (fingers crossed)
Mumford is named on extended bench so check finalised teams tomorrow evening.
Flynn named in on field 22 means he plays doesn’t it? I thought the three that come out are taken from the seven named on interchange.
Playing west coast with a land of the giants so might be a wait and see on the eagles final teams. Briggs to play back on one of the tall forwards, mummy and flynn to tandem ruck against nic nat and whoever else the eagles use. makes some sense for all to play this week.
Gws are getting close to using every able bodied player on their list right now.
They might be playing Flynn, Mummy and Briggs
Is waterman confirmed playing because he is in?
Even though final teams haven’t been announced? He is on the field..
Also what about lachie Jones? Is it subject to final teams?
Yep, Waterman is playing.
Have to wait until port announce their final bench on Jones…
“Hello full team lists my old friend … ” … someone could make a song out of that!!
Oh how I have missed you so … now if we could only trust the coaches to actually stick to the lists they give us!! We already now Scott has said “he treats it as a guide only …” or similar words!!
Thanks CT – you legend!!
Hi Macca. It is good to have the teams announced on Thursdays again.
Some teams were slightly tardy but I am sure once they get in the groove things will be promptly released.
“…..Highmore sends me round the bend……..”
Should have traded him out a long time ago.
He didn’t play well at all last week so not surprised he’s out.
Check his time on ground. They really didn’t give him a chance
I said he’d be sent back to the seconds for his effort got a massive 15 thumbs down but only one person has to agree. That’s the coach of the Senior team. Quote vindicated. Don’t worry BKW, I agree with you. Not that my opinion means anything.
I agree. His tackling especially was woeful. Was falling off bodies and giving up way too many second chance efforts.
Waterman is definitely in named on the half forward line but Lachie Jones is on the extended bench. Fingers crossed.
Waterman is definitely named…..that’s it for now.
Sunday Teams have extended benches and teams will be finalised Friday evening.
Approximately 5 pm.
Lachie Jones, Nathan Murphy extended bench. Brayshaw out too is a bugger
“Andy (Brayshaw) looks like he gave his calf a bit of a tweak so he will be touch and go. Which is a bit disappointing. He will likely be out this week “Justin Longmuir
Thanks CT, hopefully Longmuir isn’t telling Porky Pies and Brayshaw only misses the one.
I will be holding.
A one week calf ??
Yeah I’m not buying it.
Screws my trade plans out the door but Brayshaw will need to be traded out this week. Only positive is it’ll help my bye structure but it’s a wasted trade unfortunately.
Andrew Brayshaw (Calf) Out for Round 10, likely to be 1 week at this stage
Justin Longmuir
Jordan Clark, Zach Guthrie and Francis Evans are selected to play VFL tonight for Geelong.
Clark finished with 20 touches and three behinds
He makes way for Dusty this week.
Nice, FT. Top trade.
Clarke is out of contract at the end of season, being from WA he could end up in one of our teams?
I’d like to think so.
As much as I like the kid, I think he might suit WC better.
We already have a heap of speedy running guys that can play HB / Wing or HF.
WC coast seem to have a heap of Talls and quality utility types with guys like Oscar Allan, Waterman and Brander.
I think his run and carry may suit really suit WC.
He could be long term replacement for Gaff ?
Saying all that… I’m worried Cerra may go home.
If this happens, you may see a multi way deal done, where we get a top 10 pick and maybe Clarke as the “steak knives “.
I really hope Cerra stays.
Best of luck this weekend CT.
Hey everyone, any idea why Farrar is out? Says injury but not on the GCS injury list. Just another way of saying dropped after 5 touches?
“Jy Farrar has also sustained a quad injury and will miss this week’s match.” Gold Coast Update.
Interesting that Flynn is named in ruck for GWS and Mummy is on the extended bench.
Does Mummy get a game or not?
Thank Goodness Teams are finalised by 5 pm tomorrow, have multiple orange exclamation marks happening at the minute, looking at trading in L.Jones, who’s on the extended bench, Highmore an emergency that could be a medical sub, Powell’s on an extended bench and so’s Bergman, who I think people were expecting to come out for Jones. There’s the threat of Doughnuts all over the place, all of these can end up being a medical sub and being Fredericked !! Did I just invent a verb??
Brayshaw Poll,
Fellow coaches:
Should l, TU Keep him so his thigh issue keeps flaring up and he doesn’t return till after the byes on restricted duties and less TOG or;
TD Trade him out so he comes back fully freshened and tons up next week
Wow you guys looking to trade Brayshaw must have trades to burn..lol
Bomber,
I think they once named a movie similar to SCTTL ….I think it was called Apocalypse Now……..Am I right fellow Tech. Leagueians…..LOL
Am I correct in believing that for the Sunday teams, any player can become an emergency and not necessarily only those that are named on the 7 player bench?
IMO, the 18 are definitely starters, but not necessarily in that role.
However they can be “late outs” in pre game analysis.
It’s the “froms” that the final selections come from.
My understanding is the emergencies have to come from the extended bench.
Hi Joestar, that is not correct as the extended team is not final until it is named tomorrow evening. Any player in the extended team can be an emergency regardless if they named on the field or bench.
The teams for Sunday are not “Final” until they are named tomorrow evening (18 players, 4 interchange players, 4 emergencies).
One of those four emergencies is the medical sub.
Cheers CT , well you learn something new every day! Has this been a recent change or has this always been in place?
Correct Lock and load.It is feasible that only 3 GWS I/C plus Flynn are left out,Mummy goes to ruck, leaving 4 selected I/C.
No TB. It is not feasible that Flynn gets left out, he’s named in the 18. That’s it, he’s playing…
TB is correct. The Sunday extended teams are NOT final teams.
Just because a player is on the field does not mean that he will play ahead of someone named on the bench. Why do you think they have extended teams? It allows clubs to make adjustments to their team as they are not playing until Sunday.
Granted a player on the field you would think would have preference BUT it is not a given.
The teams for Sunday are not “Final” until they are named tomorrow evening (18 players, 4 interchange players, 4 emergencies).
A player named in the 18 on Sunday is as certain as any player named in the 22 for a Friday /Saturday game. They could be a late change and we all deal with this risk every game anyway.
I’ll be on here at 5.01pm to say I told you so. The 18 are locked, the 8 on the bench gets trimmed to 4. Been the same since the invention of the game.
90% of the time this would be the case but not always
Exactly. Allowed to use any emergency up to the game without financial penalty.
Substitutes from off the emergency list can sill happen but clubs wear a fine for doing so last I knew.
Sorry CT, and the other 16 thumbs down I received. I’ve been playing this game for a long time, I’d like to think I’m aware of how things work. Apologies will be accepted by all in the comments below. TIA.
Then you should know better. I have seen players come out of the onfield 18 plenty of times in the past. You got the thumbs down for a reason.
Not ideal but looking like I’ll need to go down this path to be able to grab a Steele/Mills type.
TU – Madden
TD – Murray
Comment – Edwards
Need some further cash generation and want to bring in Port’s Jones (if named to play of course) using DPP elsewhere. The question is who to ditch?
TU: Tyler Brockman ($172k, BE 30). DPP flexibility but not getting games.
TD: Beau McCreery ($205k, BE 46). Has been playing but now on extended bench, and only averaging around his BE.
Selling Brockman means making less money and losing DPP flexibility, whereas McCreery had, at least until this round, security of starts.
Planning on doing sharp to Jones so I have some more cover in backline, will the full port team come out before Brisbane play tonight??
Alec Waterman to play in Round 10 – Ben Rutten
keen to trial him at centre bounces in the Jake Stringer role.
Rutten: “He played a couple of years as a genuine FF in WA. Previously he’s played a lot of time in midfield. We’re continually trying to expand his repertoire. We haven’t seen much of his time through mid so we’re using the VFL to look at him through there. There’s potential.”
Adelaide: Ronin O’Connor. Will be the medical sub.
Matthew Nicks:
“We’ll play him as the medi sub… We were pleasantly surprised by the way he went about it on the weekend. I’m quite excited about what we’ll see from Ronin on the weekend.” ( Nicks said he hopes there’s no injury.)
Port Adelaide : Woodcock, Mayes and Lienert named in SANFL.
Expectation that Jones will be in the 23 man AFL team along with Bergman, Drew, Bonner, and Farrell.
One to be the medical sub?
Bergman to be the sub
Is that confirmed??
The Emergencies are Bergman, Lienert, Woodcock, Mayes.
With Woodcock, Mayes and Lienert named in SANFL that only leaves Bergman. Unless something unforseen happens it is the only logical outcome.
GWS Giants: Jesse Hogan (Calf) Out for an extended period
Nick Shipley comes into the extended 26-man squad, with 22-man line-ups to be confirmed at 5pm.
UPDATE :
Scans on Friday revealed the extent of the strain, which will sideline Hogan for between four and six weeks.
