  1. Targeting either Sicily or English this week who will both be super expensive now, especially Sicily..

Who is the bigger priority? Leaning towards Sicily as I will be completely decimated if I pick up anymore players with the middle bye.

    Tu; Sicily
    Td; english

  2. Keen to keep either McCartin or SDK as D7/F7 cover due to their consistency and dpp.

TU: Good Call to have this cover for injuries
TD: Cash in on them and back fresh rookies

  5. Is it worth trading in strnadica even though he probably wont play for the rest of the season so that I can get in Sicily?

Not sure if you guys have notcied but there are basically 0 rookies to bring in this week.

trades would be SDK (bad bye)>sicily and Hayes>strnadica

  6. (B) = Out due to byes this week
The players will obviously be switched around to field 18 playing this week.

DEF: Sicily, Hewett (B), Crisp, Short (B), Ridley (B), McCartin (De Koning, Wehr)
MID: Oliver, Neale, Laird, Macrae, Miller, Cripps (B), Hobbs (B), Clark (McComb, Rioli (B), C. Parker)
    RUC: Gawn, Preuss (B), S. Hayes (B)
FWD: Dunkley, Brodie, L. Parker, D. Martin (B), Butter, Heeney (Rosas, Curtis)

    $260k/16 trades (1 boost) remaining.

I do want to get rid of Rioli and/or Curtis, but there’s no one to downgrade to that’s playing this week or on the bubble. So there’s no use doing that this week. But I may be in danger of fielding under 18 this week if Curtis gets dropped.
If he does, then I’m considering doing a controversial move in trading out Preuss for English. I could get rid of Hayes instead, but I kinda don’t want to have wasted points with Preuss sitting on the bench if I had him, English and Gawn.
It also gives me two playing ruckmen in each of the bye round.

    So IF Curtis doesn’t play

TU: Preuss > English, $116k spare in the cap and gives me 18 playing
TD: Take the donut and deal with it, you JACKASS!

Or should I make the trade in English anyway, regardless of if Curtis plays or not? Feel free to comment if you have a good idea for me.

    • Btw, my plan the following week is to use my last boost. Get Rioli out for Owens, downgrade one of McCartin or SDK and upgrade the other to Sinclair.

Probably won’t need to make any trades in Rd.14

    • I also have Gawn/Preuss/Hayes in my ruckline.

I am considering going Hayes to English to give me 2 ruckmen playing each round of the byes.

I have a non playing rookie in the forward line who I could trade to a basement priced R/F (Visentini) after R14, allowing me to swing English into the forward line and still have Gawn/Preuss in the ruck.

This also adds flexibility in case Gawn or Preuss miss a week.

Burns a trade but it could be worth it in the long run home.

    • Unfortunately not CDawg , the E works the same as a usual round so a mid E would replace a mid on field who doesn’t play.

The max number of mids that can count towards your score remains 8.

Hopefully you have some mid/fwd or mid/def guys to swing around the place.

      Good luck!

  7. Is Gawn playing injured lately? Heard something about knee strapping – possible cause for sub-par scores recently. Gawn & Darcy have the R14 bye and are currently about as cheap as they’ll get judging by BE. Darcy has a good ceiling but is an injury concern. If Gawn is fit I’d go with him – cheaper too. Looking at a Preuss swap.

    • I’d be looking at Sam Butler at $137k to be honest. I know he’s already had a price rise but reckon he has way more job security than either of those two and with his awful first score out of the system, hopefully he just climbs in cash. Crucially, he has the round 14 bye while the other two are round 13 and that one is gonna be very hard to get players on the park already without bringing more of them in

  9. Gibcus with the poor game, and English with his huge haul and ruined my trade plan. 8K off now.. I can get to English with Daicos, who annoyingly doesn’t have the bye until R14. English is due to rise 30K-ish so feel it’s hard to pass him up despite the R13 bye.

    TU Daicos to English
TD wait until R14 and cop the rise

  10. With a BE of 122 Bont can wait till R14 (after his bye), but Bailey Smith’s low BE makes getting him pre-bye attractive – could easily spit out a good score and jump $25k. The only deterrent is already have 6 premos (Macrae, Dunks, English, Witts, Touk & Parker) missing in R13.

    My team:

DEF: Sicily, Hewett, Dawson, Crisp, Short, McCartin (O’Driscoll, Khamis)

MID: Oliver, Neale, Laird, Parish, Macrae, Miller, Cripps, Horne-Francis (McComb, Clark, C. Stephens)

    RUCK: Gawn, Preuss (S. Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Brodie, Butters, Heeney, Coniglio, S. De Koning (MacDonald, Rioli)

15 trades left, 2 boosts, $72,500 in bank

Do I make any moves? If so who do I trade/bring in?

I like your first two trades, and I also like getting Owens in – if he is named for his third game before round 13.

But personally I don’t like you trading out Coniglio to do those other two trades – as he has just had two good weeks (playing more MID) with the new GWS coach in charge.

  14. Zorko, Rosas & Hayes -> Wehr, English & 102k Ruck loop.

Sets me up to get Sinclair and Zerrett next week and have 18 playing.

Using 2 trades in R14-15, I can also move Cogs or Butters to the Bont.

Completed team with 6 trades remaining.

Could hold Zorko and complete the team with 7 trades, but he looked slow and tired on the weekend and will bleed cash.

Don’t think he had a CBA either in the second half. But that may have been to him looking even slower, more tired and lazier than the first half.

    • Can any Collingwood or other supporters shed any light on why Pendles has scored so poorly the last couple of weeks (73 then 62)?

He had been so consistently good up until then.

I know he was crook, so was a late withdrawal for round 9.

And Optus Stadium was very wet & muddy for his return in round 10 – although he usually plays well in the wet.

But I didn’t see any of the game versus Carlton on the weekend – so not sure why he scored so poorly on the weekend just gone?

      • Hi Brett,

Not necessarily although it would be nice if he played. Wehr is my only ‘realistic’ option as a downgrade in the defence as I don’t have any dpp options. Might just be bring him in and hope he holds his spot.

    • Depends how badly you need cash gen vs a warm body. Jeffrey is super pricey so doesn’t give you heaps of cash for the downgrade so I’d look at Butler who looks like he might keep getting games and his dpp is super handy. If Cleary is named this week then he’s also a good shout but at this stage of the season, you don’t necessarily need a rookie to make 200k, it’s more about downgrading to someone that allows you to upgrade elsewhere.

Got the feeling Wehr & Kemp average 50-60, whereas Cleary maybe 55-65.
Kemp a little older and may be needed with Blues back shortage.
      # Cleary may take Khamis spot- he was stiff to miss out.

      • I think Kemp has the bye this week – so will need to wait a week to see if he gets picked?

But he could be a really good option with all the injuries to the tall players at Carlton – he was in my pre-season team.

Carlton are apparently trying to bolster their talls in the mid season draft – so maybe also keep an eye out for who they bring in there.

Agree that Cleary was very stiff to get dropped – although he is skinny, he looked very composed & “at home” at AFL level.

His stats of 7 kicks, 4 handballs, 17 hit outs, 1 tackle may not not look good on paper but apperently he played a lot of time forward.

It is expected with the bye that he will be fitter to play Rd 13.

      • @ CT – g’day!!

Thanks for this update on Preuss 🙂

Sorry to ask, but where did the information about Preuss not being sufficiently recovered from illness come from?

As I would have thought that if he was passed fit to play, then he could have been picked at either level (AFL or reserves level)?

The only reason that I can think of is that the GWS “reserves team” maybe played later in the weekend – so it gave him more time to recover from illness?

Obviously the other possibility is that he got dropped for the game (possibly due to match ups) versus Brisbane?

As an Preuss owner, I am really hoping he is back for the round 13 game versus North Melbourne – who are currently running with 2 x rucks (Goldstein and Xerri).

Thanks again for all the work you do on this site!!

        • Hi Brett,
The information came via a Toby Greene interview explaining the lack of energy Preuss had after a bad case of the flu. It was hoped that he would play but he didn’t recover enough.

The slower tempo and resting forward was deemed a more appropriate avenue for a return. He was not dropped for match up reasons only due to fitness.
The VFL game was played on Sunday so that gave him another day.

I am also a Preuss owner and will definitely be keeping him especially after 6 100 scores.

All the best with your team.
          Thanks for your compliment.
          Cheers. C.T.

Midfield – Oliver, Neale, Laird, Macrae, Daicos, Clark, Soligo, McDonald ( Walsh (Bye), Cripps (Bye), Carroll (Bye) )

Ruck – English, Gawn (Hayes (Bye) )

Forward – Dunkley, Brodie, Parker, Heeney, McCartin, Jeffrey (Rioli (Bye), Long)

        • 3 rookies on-field. Along with Heeney, Butters, Preuss and Coniglio. Hmm.

With those trades, might have to settle for keeping 3/4 of those (Preuss, Cogs and Butters), and moving one of those later on if they start to stall.

I have been watching the swans these last 3 weeks. Heeney did play back in the guts against the Blues, but was parked forward in the two games prior (and of course the Tigers game this past Friday). Poor ball use and an unfriendly SC role has really hindered him, and unless a drastic role change occurs, I can’t see him pumping out regular tons. IMO, has to go.

Heeney -> English is a nice 20+ point-increase, ones due to fall dramatically in price while the other rises. I like it.

Hayes -> Strnadica / 102k DPP ruck if one is drafted. Is a nice cash grab as well to allow further upgrading next week onwards.

I like the moves! Would then continue to look at getting to full-premium and not worrying about the others (unless of course Preuss isn’t named next week).

  31. Currently have 20 trades and 2 boosts, $151k ITB. Looking at;

    Hayes > Visenti
    McCartin > English

Prevents wasting Gawn, Preuss and Hayes as playing rucks in Round 13. Can use Visenti’s DPP to cover the ruck this week and the rest of the season using English and Cameron. Based on last rounds teams, 20 on ground this week and 18 next week before trades.

    TU; Do it

    Thanks in advance everyone, cheers.

  32. Chasing some much needed advice, what changes (if any) do I make to my team:

Currently have 328k itb and 16 trades no boosts

DEF: Sicily, Hewett, Crisp, Short, Docherty, Ridley (SDK, McCartin)

MID: Oliver, Neale, Laird, Macrae, Miller, Cripps, McComb, Clark (Hough, Carroll, Rioli)

    RUCK: Gawn, Preuss (S. Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Brodie, Butters, Heeney, Cogs, Rosas (Durdin, Curtis)

Thinking Hayes to English this week leaving me with 38k itb, thoughts?
    Next week rd13 i’ll go:
    mccartin > wehr
    rosas > owens
    mccomb > walsh
Then to get to full premo
    rd14
    sdk > rookie
durdin > visentini/comben (ruck/fwd dpp to swing english fwd)
    clark > mills
    rd15 luxury trade
    one of cogs/butters/heeney > bont/smith
    rioli > rookie
    r16 luxury trade
    one of hough/carroll/curtis > rookie
    ridley > stewart

Maybe everyone panicing because he missed last week and has a bye this week? He was still suffering effects of illness and will be right next game.

Everyone is chasing last week points with English. An Extraordinary effort but against a depleted Eagles and non existent ruck lineup.

  38. Is there any love out there for Jed Anderson?

Obviously comes with a up-tick in high risk but after Nth easing him slowly back into the midfield over a few weeks he blew up on the weekend (144 from 77% TOG). Pure contested beast who is a tackling machine. $400k POD forward who barring injury (huge factor) will play mid throughout the whole game.

    • I don’t mind it if it fixes up your bye structure, has the handy R14 bye, breakeven of 5 so he’ll make some cash. If he stinks it up then you can bail out at his bye. Normally would’t recommend it but with those extra 5 trades could be a valid play.

    • I am also looking at trading Nic Martin to Jed Anderson, cost $32k.

Gives me extra coverage in R12 & R13.

He has been savaged by injury in 2021 and COVID problems earlier this year. The Roos have eased him back in and he is hitting peak fitness now.

      Look at his 2020 stats:

      Played 15/18 games
      8 scores over 100 including 4 over 140, highest 174.

If he stinks it up he should have made enough cash by R14 to upgrade to a reasonable premium or sit at F7.

      High risk, high reward.

  39. Do have to say- it’s been a big year to avoid normal ruck set up of Grawndy. Grundy big injury and form was down, Gawn playing hurt and getting older? But still playing okay.
Looking forward into the crystal ball I wonder who will be the 2 best rucks come finals? All have their downside.
Those who had the guts to choose Witts from start big bonus- cash generation, stable and great scorer. Who would have said that leading into round 1 when he was coming off a knee injury and didn’t play much pre season.
I’m looking at Witts into Preuss longer term- with the ability to to change from Preuss as required- still got good cash gen over short/mid term anyway.
Then it’s a raffle- Gawn will probably be firing by finals, Darcy may have played whole season and dominated- like he did over Gawn & Jackson.
What’s people’s thoughts? I’m bringing in Witts next couple of weeks- so great chance of injury or form drop off for him from then on! 😉

    • With 11 rounds of hindsight, starting Witts and English with Hayes on the bench then going:
English > Preuss (rd 6 was English injury, Preuss bubble game following 2 x 100’s)
      Hayes > Hayes (J.Hayes injured in rd 6, S.Hayes bubble game rd7)
Preuss > English (rd 11, English returns, Preuss misses 2 in a row with bye)

This would get you 2,606 points at an average of 118.5 per position; Witts (1,317), English (768), Preuss (449) and Hayes (72). Also a $130k bench rookie contribution and $250k Preuss cash cow contribution.

Unfortunately l only have 12 trades and l still have pruess ar R2 and Whitfield at D6.

If I made no trades this week, I would have 18 playing R12 but only 15 in R13, so would need to make 3 trades R13 to get to 18 on field.

    TU Option 1
trade out this week Whitfield Pruess and De koning and bring in Darcy, A Brayshaw and Owens to give me 19 for R12.
Then in R13 trade out P McCartin and Hayes and bring in Sinclair and Wehr to have 18 on field.

Use 5 trades over two weeks, gain three promos (Darcy, Brayshaw and Sinclair)and get rid of Whitfield and preuss. Leaves me with 7 trades.

    TD Option 2
Leaves me with 9 trades and with only 2 Fwd premo to get

Don’t trade R12 and play the 18 players l have on field, then in R13 trade out De Koning, P Mccartin, Heeney for Sinclair, Owens, Wehr to have 18 on field.

Uses only 3 trades over 2 weeks, but gain only 1 premo (Sinclair) however it leaves still leave’s me with Whitfield as D7 and Preuss as R2. Leaves me with 9 trades and with only 2 Fwd premo to get and maybe premo ruck.

Which is better option, thanks in advance

So I have 15 trades left before this round. Thinking of using all 3 this week. This would leave me with 12 trades for the rest of the year to upgrade one more rookie spot on the field plus eventually upgrade Rowell & L Jackson (not urgent) and cover any unexpected premo injuries. Thoughts on this:

    Out: S Hayes, Durdin & D Stephens
    In: English, Strnadica/Wehr & M Owens.

(I need to use 3 trades in order to get English)

  53. Hey all…

Anyone else done about 12 hours of working through different trade scenarios for this week (and the upcoming byes) and decided on ‘no trades’ this week…? 😀

Guys like Durdin and Hayes I need for future bye rounds and the ones I want in like Stewart and English have that awful R13 bye…I’ll pick up Merrett next week to be full premo and try work my way up from there…

Looking ahead – past the byes – which one player out of these 3 pairs would you go with:

    Laird V Mills
    Walsh V Parish
Dunkley V Smith (Yes I know – I’m the only coach without Dunkley…)

    Cheers

    • Ooof. That is tough, Dale.

      MILLS.

Laird has the consistency and soft fixture and Mills role been dicked around with recently. Would probably still says Mills on ceiling.

      WALSH.

Walsh over Parish. Started Parish who was actually my Walsh replacement when he went down early – been annoying watching him. Use and system have ruined his ceiling, gets the stats for 160-180s and ends up on max 140. Walsh starting to cook with gas, incredible tank and can score anywhere. He puts Parish away.

      DUNKLEY.

He’s likely F1 and will continue to sting on ownership. Have Bont and Tingles ahead of Smith as well tbh.

Really bullish on the big ruckmen in English and Witts. So was thinking, PREUSS into WITTS, not sure what the situation with Preuss is, but too confusing for me to keep up with, so want him out.
HEENEY into ENGLISH, trying to convince myself that it isn’t rage trading, and that Heeney is on my never again list so he shouldn’t be on my team anyway,
and finally, as I am a couple k short of that trade
HAMILTON into OWENS. Hamilton and Owens both have the byes, just thought I’d do this trade early because I want English. Of course, I could wait a week and do it with Daicos instead.
    Ideas much appreciated.

But I voted down as I am concerned about the job security for Wehr with a few GSW players returning next week (eg Taranto, Whitfield etc).

Although Wehr has looked very good in his first two games.

And who knows if Strnadica will play again this year?

  74. Hey everyone!

TU: Hayes & Carroll -> English & Teakle
TD: Hayes, Carroll, O’Driscoll -> English, Teakle, Parnell

Just tossing up between bringing in Parnell or not. I’ll have 18 players on field without him. Bringing him in leaves me with 15 trades, fully intending to use 6 trades over the next 2 weeks.

    Thanks!
