    • A breakeven of 90 and I reckon he’ll be absolutely pumped after smashing gawn and will easily go 150+ against Grundy at Marvel. Grundy has always backed away from aggressive ruck opponents that’s why Pies paid for him to go to Melbourne and why Melbourne offloaded him to Sydney

  1. Can someone please give some context to Lachie Ash’s role & scoring please?

    Had 14 CBA’s and 0 kick ins.

Is he still a viable option? I was planning on bringing him in this week but unsure now.

Also down a few games in League so Xerri will complete all 3 big rucks.

      • Rules need to be broken on occasions. Serong returns these past 4 weeks have been horrendous with no real hard tag. Round 8 and already 4 scores under 80, go back 3 years you will not find that many. Yes you could still continue to upgrade around him as you suggest but do you really want to be stuck with Serong for the next 8-9 rounds with a 90 average.?

Yes the spud is currently in my team.

    • As a Serong owner myself, I would love to do this but it’s simply just going to put us on the back burner. That move is going to cost roughly 200k which will stall your upgrades. As frustrating as it is, I think we need to hold Serong. He should average 100-105 come seasons end.

    • Great trade. It’s not sideways its a 42 pts p/week upgrade.
Xerri is averaging 10 points more than any other player even with the 68 against the bombers when he had a Brain fade.
If you delete that anomaly he’s averaging 160.5 (if you delete Grundys worst score he ave 138)
Serong has only gone 100+ 3 times (50% of his scores have been below 80) and he has a breakeven of 147 and could drop another 40k this week.

  3. TU. Is it time to part company with Gawn now he is moving forward?

He had 84% time on ground for 104 points, now also his three round average making him about sixth best ruck.

Heath had 46% T.O.G. for his 75 points at 1.2 points per minute, better than Grundy’s 1.1 P.P.M.

    • It is concerning how easily they swing him forward and how well heath performed. But it seems more to be mihocheks injury than a structural change. Again, still concerning knowing they’re happy to do that. He did tonne up though and he is a beast. I don’t know that I’d waste a trade that you might regret. You open yourself up to the same carnage that happened earlier in the season with xerri to english to X back to xerri, thats been burning a lot of trades.

    • Gawn is in my team. Against Richmond after a 5 day break the big fella rested forward as Melbourne always had the game under control. This week i think the early injury to checkers caused Melbourne to play Gawn forward more than they wanted to.

But imagine if Gawn ended up with FWD status…..wowee

  4. Three boosts left, using one this week.

Grlj will obviously go and I still have Jaques – I don’t think he will be recalled so he’s gone too. The third out will be either Robertson (only loop option) or JSerong.

Cumming and McKenna are in. Burton is a better cash cow than McKenna, but bringing in another mid rook will kill my structure.

The third in is an upgrade but undecided who. Probably Kozzie or Bailey

Murphy is a bit up and down but that’s fine for a forward until your very last upgrade pretty much and Harley is the main mid coming off a ton so could also be worth holding until you’ve finished with rookies

Next week a combo of Carroll, Lindsay, McAndrew and Cook will be nice and fat with Cook most likely to stay on form.

McCluggage up to 74% TOG against bombers, up from mid 60s so he’s almost ready. RoMo doing my head in too, high on watchlist. And Callaghan could be tasty next week

    • Usually when you find yourself in trouble, I’m my experience it’s because you’ve taken too many risky picks and burnt a lot of trades. The kneejerk reaction is usually to burn a lot more trades, doubling down. Maybe that’s not your problem this year, but I’d err on the side of slowing down and not dumping underperforming premos and midpricers to chase recent high scores from players that might also fail. Just focus on cashing in profitable rookies and getting safe premos that are discounted. Deal with the other stuff later, it almost always ends up being better for you over the long-term.

      • As a longtime Houston holder, the thing that made it easy to hold was that he was close to bottoming out on price like three or four weeks ago. So there’s no profit in a trade. Flanders is in the same boat, lots of upside as he can definitely score some spike scores or get into form, and very little downside in terms of he’s unlikely to lose more than 50k and stay there. The price he’s at and his general scoring indicates that even if hes a failed mid pricer and doesn’t recover from here you lose less than 50k, probably even hold steady or have a rebound. A trade is worth 150k, no reason to waste one early until you absolutely need to and you have as much information as possible on whether he bounces back.

    Fwd:

With the early premo carnage taking care of more trades than I would have liked and already being on a risky strategy with many rookies and some premos from the off, are (specifically) players like Cook,Phillipou and Lindsay potential keepers but not on field as such but moving to a bench cover role late in the season…just thinking about avoiding the need to use trades to upgrade bench cover later and these guys (Duursma too) are scoring consistently well with good roles. Thoughts?

    • Interesting theory for debate. The question is, how do you complete your team if you don’t cash them in? Maybe there’s an argument for a couple of exceptions but reckon they’d have to be mature players and almost certainly DPP. First year players rarely keep the form up all season

Many others have crashed and burned though- just trying to see if they are the exception. Still have 11 others in my team that I consider rookies. About Half just starting out and the others still have 3-4 weeks till the beginning of harvest.

        • I’ve been doing some math on cash gen this year, trying to do more theory crafting. One way I look at it is my team has to hit 14-14.5 mill. I’ve gone through all my players and looked at where they cap out roughly, and my current team value and that gives me a guide on how many more successful cash cows I need. A similar review might help you work out whether those need to be cashed out. Although, to be fair, I’d just take it week to week. If you can keep them and continue to upgrade without burning trade on <150k rookie downgrades then there's no reason not to hold them.

  30. Been a few people talking about trading Caleb Serong on here. My questions are:

    1) Who are you going to?
He’s already lost so much value.

    2) Are you prepared to sacrifice your upgrades in order to move him on?

Surely he is good enough that he can manage at least a 100-105 type average on the season?

Can any Freo fans give some insight into what’s going on? The role seems to be the same so the only thing I can put it down to is poor form? Class is permanent as they say.

    Interested to hear people’s thoughts!

  34. Grlj ($302k) to Busslinger ($215k) gets you $77,000.

If Busslinger goes at 70 from here, he’ll make you $125k by his bye – $341k. Grlj going at his average (63) would be $309k. So you’d be “up” $39k + $77k = $116k.

Busslinger maintaining his 80 average takes him to $380k by his bye, so only then would you make $155k.

Is my maths right? Because if it is, it hardly seems worth it to me.

Burton would only need like 50s to be profitable at that price, and less concerning if he fails. Still be nice to get another 80+ scoring rookie alongside duursma.

    TU: Blamires to Busslinger/W Edwards

TU: W Edwards for a proper downgrade
TD: Busslinger for some extra points on field and hopefully cash gen

    T/U – L Lombard
    T/D – T Marshall

Whichever one stays will be on the ground, other traded for a cheapie to generate cash.

  44. Caleb Serong is bleeding, his last four games less than 100, three of those less than 80. Bruhn and Parish are scoring as well as him.

TU. Swap him to flex and trade out for Rowan Marshall who will end up in the forward line + Blamires out for Busslinger + Parish out for Oliver

TD. Serong will score 150 + against Hawthorn

    • If you believe he doesn’t recover ever, then it’s probably a sell, he will still losea fair bit of money if he doesn’t get a spike score in the next three weeks. But that’s a big bet to make, because hes not losing 150k from here, so you’re using a trade to save less than the value of a trade and hoping that both serong doesn’t bounce back, even for just a few games, and whoever you trade into doesn’t get injured or fall off.

    • Serong is still getting the majority of the CBA’s. his role hasn’t changed, he just isn’t having an impact. that could change any week. i’m an owner and will be holding and upgrading elsewhere, he has already dropped too much in price to be worth trading him out.

      • Lexi and derek, I’ve had a think about what you’ve written.

I’m went ahead with the trades as there is an added bonus, I swapped Marshall into the forward line, T. Marshall to flex then swapped him with forward emergency Steene, who I then swapped with McAndrew emergency for Gawn and Jackson.

So finally McAndrew can add to my scoreboard while waiting to trade up to Xerri round 13 suffering not too many more injuries, Taranto returns but Uniacke might be lineball to play this week.

Both Serong and Brayshaw are a tad slow but they”re againgst the Hawks who aren’t that quick either

T/U – Letting go of Bruhn to get Burton
    T/D – Trading Blamires for W.Edwards

Would rather hold Bruhn, but would also rather get Burton which I can’t if I hold Bruhn..

      • I had a look at his heat map, he still drops back into defence and gets a few marks, although he didn’t have any kick ins from memory. Surely at the price he is still fine to jump on now? Seems to be finding the ball fine from what we saw even if it’s more mid time.

  47. Rachele has to go, even with Richmond this week. Can’t see him scoring well out of the goal square as a small forward. Already have Sheezel, Trac, Kozi and Flanders.

TU: Rankine – almost a straight swap money wise, been top 6 fwd last 2 years and has the role. Bye sucks
TD: Bolton – Looks to be having a good year and getting CBA’s but have very little trust
Comment: Bailey – Contract year, averaging 20+ and 2 a week, but flash in the pan. Best bye structure

    in Mccluggage, Callaghan, burton

Use final boost, still have to get petracca

Current thoughts are for this week:
    Out: Bruhn, Farrow and Grlj
    In: Bont, Rohan Marshall, Cumming

Next week aim for two of McCluggage, Callaghan and Bailey Dale

    TU: good moves
TD: forget Cumming cash grab and go for another premium now.

    Farrow to Burton
    Bruhn to McCluggage

This leaves me $302K to use in another or a series of upgrades next week.

    • It also depends on your team needs. Cumming will score better on field than Burton to cover the byes rounds. But if that’s not your concern and you are simply needing a downgrade target then as long as he can make cash gen, the cheapest the better.

    1. Bruhn + Farrow -> Callaghan + Cumming

    2. Bruhn + Farrow + Cook -> Callaghan + McCluggage + Burton (Final boost)

Working on the thought that keeping Bruhn on field is better than a rookie for now. Cant get Cumming unless I trade out Bruhn.

  63. A thing to note about burton vs Cummings.
If burton goes at 45-50,’s he will only get to $210 in 3 to 4 weeks, a rise of $110

Cummings at 80’s will get to $340 in 3-4 weeks, a rise of $150

Cummings has the cba’ s, JS to play the whole season and potential to score 80’s.
Burton JS might only be 3-4 weeks JS before players return from injury, and can only go 40’s to 50’s

In my opinion Cummings is the better pick if you can afford him. He will also give you greater buying power when upgrading to a premium
