Tuesday POLL : What’s a Luxury Trade?

Coaches go into round three of a Supercoach season expecting to grab the cash cows they missed, fix an obvious bad gamble or jump on a rocket before they go through the roof in price. Unfortunately, the first couple of rounds have thrown that proverbial curveball right past us with not many opportunities to get a hit.

Some of us played it more (dare I say) sensibly last week and hung onto Errol to gain a better idea of data, however limited , before making a move after this round. Well that curveball has turned into strike three for a lot of us  given the high ownership of some serious injuries during round two that has us dry reaching within our anxiety attacks as to what to do. Gulden aside, there’s Rozee, Tracca and Dyson Sharp all highly owned who will eat up our boost this week if we try and fix it all. Then there is a smattering of blokes in the risky mid price range that we think have let us down. Not to put too fine a point on it, there’s Blakiston, Rivers, McKerch, Lalor, Windsor, The Pou and probably McCarthy after his zero CBAs on the weekend, to name a few off the top.

Further, those who played the waiting game for two games of data on the likes of Murdock and Robertson of the Weagles, and other popular low BE choices of Cook, Blamires and Marshall amongst others, are now stuck with too many choices to do the straight trades to these blokes. I realise this is not all of us, but it is many, and the combinations of injury, failure and cash projections is going to make trade decisions really difficult, and fluent team repair much harder in the short term. Do you forgo cash build to correct injuries, do you hold injuries to get the cash builders, or a combination each.

I’m hoping the poll will be able to give coaches an idea of what each other is planning in terms of trades, not necessarily who to trade to just yet. We could touch on that Wednesday and offer some further choices. In the short term, let’s just offer up some stats on our situations.

First up, the question of forced trades and how bad your situation is.

How many injuries in your team will need to be rectified?

Secondly, the situation which references how many mid pricers are too many, and did you fall into the trap?

Ideally, how many mid pricers would you like to cull?

Thirdly, many of the Cash Cow rookies would be both viable and useful. Can you get them or not now?

Realistically, how many of the good cash cows did you miss?

Having assessed this, the next ask is how many trades you are planning to use, (although you are only allowed three)!!!

How many trades will you use this round?

The last question for today is a little harder to quantify, but I’m hoping it will give us all an idea of the general thinking. Obviously, with an intricate set of circumstances such as these, we will have differing thoughts and strategies and this is where the comments section is so useful in explaining your choices for our edification.

If trading, what is your priority?

As always, thanks for reading and voting, it helps a lot of us each week and is really appreciated.

  1. I’m curiously well set up to cover the Injuries and afford a semi luxury trade.
    The Bad
Injuries to Gulden, Young, Rozee, Trac have resulted in forced trades and 2 boosts.
    The good
I bat deep with successful rookies with players 1-7 on the break even list and only without Rodgers who has the bye and get him next week.
    The wait and see.
Luxury trade of TDK to Gawn this week, Marshall looked good on the weekend and will take a couple of slices of Pizza from TDK.

I’ve used more trades than I would have liked but feel well placed to build the team coming out of the byes.

  2. Looks like we might get a small window to reasses the Murdock “in” thing. Apparently scans have revealed a bit of a hammy and he could miss a week or two.

  3. Good lord, the forward line is a nightmare this year for premos. With the injury to Petracca, I have to bring someone in but I just don’t trust anyone there. I currently have Sheezel, Flanders, and Freijah as my top-3, plus Marshall, Robertson, Phillipou, and Lombard for my rookies.

So which “premo” should I bring in: Bolton? Treacy? Cameron? Nick Larkey?

    • Grab the bubble boys/rooks. I had the chance to upgrade a forward but yeah like you said nothing stands out. I’ll take the cash now and wait and see

    • I would wait for DDP in round 6, could be a few names you will want. If you have Robertson in you line up i would”nt panics just yet he may end up being your F6 at years end.

    • Just bring in bubble boys. I got Cook and maybe will get Lukosius in next week if he backs it up this week.

You could look at Shai Bolton this week after his big score last week.

  4. Love this post!

    Read my mind exactly JimmyDee.

Went on Gulden last week to Merrett. Biggest issue is the FWDs, like Daniel said.

I fancy Bolton. I’m a Scottish fella who lived in Melbourne before Covid for 6 years. I try to watch the the games as I work late but missed the Freo games. Does he pass the eye test or too risky?

  5. He certainly did last week, but he does that when he’s hot. Problem is , he’s hot and cold and if you take recent history, he had some good ceiling but also a bunch of 80s and even sub 80s. The old case of buyer beware.
