Breaking Even Rd14

Written by Schwarzwalder on June 17 2019

A popular feature at SCT, we’ve shortlisted the most SC-relevant players for you as a handy guide (mainly those owned by 3% of teams or more, with a few exceptions).

For the Supercoach newbies out there, the Breakeven is the score needed by each player to hold his price.  If they score above that Breakeven value, their $$ value will rise.  If they score below that Breakeven point, they will lose value.  Sorry if I’ve overlooked something.  Be sure to let me know in the Comments below and I’ll update it as soon as I can.  If you have any questions about Breakevens, don’t hesitate to ask in the Forum and I’m sure our friendly SCT Community will help out.

  1. I’ve got an opportunity to finish my MIDs this week by bringing in either Gaff or Zerrett this week. However, is JKelly a must have that I should wait until after his bye for?

Other premo MIDs are Fyfe, Cripps, Neale, Macrae, Bont, Oliver, MCrouch.

TU – grab Gaff/Zerrett this week in one trade
TD – wait two weeks for JKelly and potentially need two trades

    1. Don’t wait, go now.
The 2 weeks you wait could cost you 100 points, and you’ll get about 10ppg more with Kelly which will only get you back 90 odd.
The extra trade would also come in handy.
But if you have plenty of trades and a lack of captain options, maybe wait for Kelly

  2. Gee Whiz if we ever needed some of these rookies on the bubble to string a few games together it is right now.

  3. Gonna have Bewley on the bench right til the end, so part of me is inclined to use Kyle Dunkley or Marlion Pickett as a downgrade option. Maximim cash return, and don’t need my rookies coming in now to make money, just be in the selection mix through the last four weeks of the season.

Would love a DPP option, but nothing is jumping out. Mosquito, Hill, Bedford?

Anyone got any inkling about cheap DPP rookies likely to get games late in the season.

    1. on the same note, there’s Wicks from Sydney. He might be a stretch but he is fwd/mid. Playing well in the reserves.

I think Picket for richmond is definitely in the selection mix when he is healthy.

      1. Factoring injuries in for sure.

The way I’m set up at the moment, I’ll likely be bringing in Hurn and Whitfield for Moore and one of Smith/Hore over the coming weeks. Chance I go another way, but that’s the general idea. That’ll be funded by two downgrades.

I’ll have Bewley on the mid bench, probably Answerth down back, no ruck cover, and Begley up forward. That’s three lines covered by 50-60pt kind of players, and a prayer for Gawn and Grundy. They should cover me for any 1-week injuries or “rests”.

I’ll also have 7 trades left. If more than 7 of my players suffer 3+ week injuries, I’m stuffed. Would be pretty unlikely.

So given the lack of really attractive downgrade options, I’m hunting around for a bargain priced player who *should* get some games late in the season. DPP would be preferred. If I can find a DEF/MID option, it means Answerth can help cover the midfield. A MID/FWD option can cover four of my forwards, or allow those premos to cover the midfield if Begley scores well as an Emergency.

I’m not really seeing any decent DPP rookies though, as I would prefer someone who is at least half a chance of getting a few games late in the season. That’s why I’m looking at Dunkley and Pickett. Melbourne aren’t playing finals, so maybe they have a look at Dunks before the end of the year if he continues to play well in the VFL. Lots of injuries at Richmond, can see a few players getting managed before September given some have had to carry more of the load with other senior players out, which could open the door for Pickett.

The other one I’ve heard a whisper on is Owies at Carlton, rookie MID/FWD. Apparently he may get an opportunity in the second half of the season – just not sure on his scoring potential as a small forward.

  4. Is goldy to Gawn a priority this week over uprading rookies with Gawns BE at 109 and playing against freo who is without Lobb and Goldys BE at 124? Doesnt seem like Gawn will be cheaper over the next month

    9

    0
    1. Goldy has the bye this week, so his price isn’t changing. Do a head count – the more players you have past the minimum of 18, the less important one premo is because you’ll be dropping the lowest scores anyway.

20 players means the two lowest scores don’t count.
Goldy -> Gawn gives you 21 players, so you “gain” the difference between Gawn and your third lowest score.
21 players now and it’s the difference between Gawn and your fourth lowest score.
22 and it’s the difference between Gawn and your fifth lowest score.
      Etc.

18-20 players and I’d probably do Goldy to Gawn and hope that it nets you an extra 100 points.
21+ players and I’d maybe do some other rookie upgrades first, particularly if there’s a fallen premo on another line with a low break even.

  5. Really hoping Geelong do us a solid and bring Fort back in exactly 2 weeks time.

That ROB cash is gonna be sweet.

      1. It is, but if I still had him and enough trades left I reckon I’d hold for one more game at least!

        8

    1. I have both goldy and rob, plus gawn….goldy to fort this week to raise cash for an upgrade elsewhere. Rob to grundy in two weeks when the trade will cost at least 100k less than today. Fort a great chance to play some games with the rat injured.

    1. go to a site called “too serious”…great info with a three week time horizon, and all the break evens

  6. What is naish’s job Security like? Thinking of going a week early and bringing him in this week. That allows me to bring in Dunkley.

    Answerth to Naish
    Stocker to Clarke
    Baker to Dunkley

    Tu do it
    Td think again

    1. He has played well but Richmond are expecting up to 6 back after the byes. I doubt Naish will survive with 6 in’s.
