Motts Movers R13 – The Rucks

Written by Motts on June 30 2010

AKA Motts Movers – Who For Krooz?

D Jolly ($360,200 $+16,600 ($-133,000), 67.15) – Cracked the ton for the first time this year on the weekend – evidence enough for me that he’s acclimatised to Melbourne’s balmy weather and the Collingwood way of doing things* and is back to his form of last year. With a BE of 34 his price WILL rise again next week so even if you’re playing a dud this round, get on him now. As with all trades this time of year you should also be taking into account who and where players are playing between Rounds 19 and 22 (the SC finals series). In Jolly’s case all 4 games are at the MCG against teams that don’t have great rucks. Mmmmmm………

K Tippett ($362,400 $+21,700 ($-63,500), 63.15) – I named K-Tip in Motts Movers R11 and was roundly criticised for doing so. Comments like “sweet lord! are you mental, Tippett is a complete waste of money!” and “Premature on ALL counts here Motts…….I traded K-Tip out after round 2 and have never looked back” literally flooded the website. What’s he done since then? Not much. Other than RACK UP ANOTHER COUPLE OF TONS! With a BE of MINUS 5 its possible he could go up another $80k after taking on a Fletcher-less Essendon at home this week.

* the Collingwood way of doing things usually involves a motorcycle helmet and a knife but not in this instance.

  2. I have enough $ to trade Sandilands in for Kruezer but i’m thinking it may be better to trade in Jolly instead and spend the extra $ elsewhere. Thoughts?

    1. how many trades do you have left? If you only have a few left (less than 6), I reckon your best bet is to probably go Sandilands rather than wasting two trades…if you have the trades left and will be upgradng to another premium in another positions, then I dont see a problem with that either.

I hope i didnt confuse you even more

    2. Sandi is by far the best scoring ruck in the SC & u should get him if you can. He is averaging 55pts more a game than Jolly, 33 pts more than the second place ruck. Tippett has 3 scores above 110 in his last 4 games -and a 31- to reccomend him. Jolly’s only ton this year was in Sydney and the Pies aren’t going back there until next years mid season break.
Jolly can only be considered above Sandilands if you think he is going to start peeling off 100’s. You’d do well to monitor his scores for another few games to see if this ton was one out of the box.

      1. That Jolly Opinion doesn’t sound very Collingwood Biased to me, HGL. It sounds more cautious than anything. You’re not going soft on the Pies are you?

        1. Oh dear, I better balance the scales…”Darren Jolly will win the Norm Smith medal in Collingwood’s premiership in 2010″ 😉
That said, I have Sandi as my first ruck and cannot understand why anyone would consider anyone else if they can afford him.

          1. well, HGL, i think Jamie’s reasoning is he could probably get more points out of a midfielder for example rather than a ruckman… Jaime is trying to get the best possible points value out of his trades and players….sandilands is obviously the best ruckman, Jamie just wants to see if it is better to do another trade for better value…

          2. I get that Cam, but, w/o examples, we can only guess at that aspect of his plan.
The difference b/w Kruezer & Sandi is 200k and Kruezer is 30k more than Jolly, so we can reasonably say that if Jamie goes Kruezer to Jolly that he as 230k to put into 1 or 2 players which is some serious dollar.
If he throws it all at the top midfielder which is Goddard, then he is giving up a 481k midfielder which Didak, or Cameron Bruce are. They both av 97 & Goddard is 134, so it is a 37pt gain on this transaction, and a 15 pt loss on the Kruezer to Jolly deal which leaves you with a 22pt av gain.
Kruezer into Sandi is a 40 pt avg gain.
Another way of looking @ this is to add 97+122=219 vs 134+67=201.
Of course I am presuming the two mids are based on the theory of obtaining the best player possible, and two other players may yield a more beneficial result for a midfield transaction.

          3. haha how about we just ask Jamie of his plans? We can speculate all we want, but it won’t help us or him haha.

  3. With NicNat’s poor form in the last two rounds (43 & 48) avg 45.5, is it time to lose the faith and go to someone like those two guys above? or do we hang on to him and keep our trades for injuries.

          1. If Motts constantly referred to Motts as Motts it would get boring.

Motts likes to mix things up a bit.

        1. I find it bloody hilarious, and am wondering how Woosha is going to massage this situation with Cox’s groin.

          1. Perhaps they could speak to the Collingwood medicos who appear confident of getting Dick up for this weekend.

          2. They are also very confident that Ball and Goldsack will come up for this week.

  4. I still think Jolly is a risk. Only one ton. But I will also be trading in Jolly for Kreuz. Having traded out tippett in round 4 I cannot bring myself to reinstate him.

    1. look at last years numbers…scored 190 odd….he is capable of massive scores…

  5. Tippett is definitely a candidate for the Double Burn. Many of us have already been burnt once and refuse to take the risk again – it will be doubly painful, though, if he repays our stubbornness with a string of 100+ scores.

      1. Just wondering, maybe people might want to save some cash and upgrade in other areas? I won’t personally, unless he starts to lose money….i was just seeing if anyone will be trading him out at all..
