PlayON – The Saturday Games

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 23 2018

Another day, another GUARANTEED $2000 prize at PlayON!  If we can get a full game happening, they’ll be paying out for a spot in the Top20!  Otherwise, it’ll have to be kept down to a Top10 finish.  The Saturday version of the game stretches across all four matches, making for an exciting day of football.  So many choices, so much value, so many possible combinations!

There are also further Qualifiers for the massive $100k Supercontest in August and various Head to Head match-ups……something for everyone at PlayON………

Here are a few tips for Saturday, how do they compare with yours?

StKilda vs Brisbane

The Saints step out without former Captain Nick Riewoldt for the first time in a long time.  They’ll be keen to show off their new style of game plan with Paddy McCartin replacing Club Champion Riewoldt.  The Lions will be keen to improve and while they may have lost Tom Rockliff in the trade period, Luke Hodge has been brought in as a calming influence.  His experience should help these young Lion cubs improve immensely.  Saints should win this game, especially if they want to be taken seriously as Finals contenders.

Look out for Shane Savage (STK, DEF, $13.3M) to continue his good pre-season form with another strong display off half-back.  He can rack up the touches if left unguarded.

Allen Christensen (BRL,FWD, $9.2M) represents the best value in the game.  Hasn’t played much football since being traded from Geelong to Brisbane due to constant injury worries.  Has had a big pre-season and is ready to go.  Could get some time up the ground which should help his score along nicely.

Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

Port Power have traded strongly in the off-season and are looking to consolidate their place in the Top8 this year (maybe even have a crack at the flag?).  Fremantle are still stuck in the re-building phase and will be looking to stay competitive.  Hard to see Port losing this one, especially if they are serious about Finals.

The PlayON Fantasy Game is all about getting your hands on the footy.  Not many players do that more than Lachie Neale (FRE, MID, $15.4M).  Has been right up with the best of them over the last three years for total disposals.  Much of the hype is saved for teammate Nat Fyfe but Neale continues to go about his business every week, racking up the touches.

Travis Boak (PTA, MID, $14.4M) is simply past his best as an inside mdsfielder.  Doesn’t get his hands on the footy as he used to back in 2014 & 2015 and is very hard to justify that price tag here  (especially only $1M less than Neale).

Gold Coast vs North Melbourne

If no one turns out to watch this game….did it even take place?  😉  There’s going to be a lot of spare seats and a camera crew watching this one.  The Suns will be keen to improve under new Coach, Stewart Dew while the Kangaroos seem to have a long road ahead of them while re-building.

Nick Holman (GCS, MID, $5.5M) has been given a new lease of life by the Suns.  Due to his time out of the AFL, he re-enters at the bare minimum price which surely won’t last long.  Best value of the weekend!

Hawthorn vs Collingwood

Big crowd expected at the G for this one on Saturday night.  The Hawks have gone through one of the quickest re-builds in modern history (inside of one season) and are a sneaky chance of making Finals this year.  Collingwood have steadily decreased under Nathan Buckley in the past five years.  As the Germans would say: ‘Nicht mein Bier/Not my Beer’ (in other words: ‘not my problem / not for me to worry about’).

Tom Mitchell (HAW, MID, $18M) is the most expensive player in the PlayON competition but it’s not hard to see why.  Gathered the most disposals in the AFL last year at an astonishing rate of 36 touches per game.  That translates to pure gold in a Fantasy Game such as this…….worth every penny!  In the corresponding game last year, Mitchell raked in 50 touches……7th highest performance of all-time!

Whatever you’re playing this weekend………GOOD LUCK, COACHES!!

  1. Another great PlayOn write up Schwarzy!

Plenty of Free Cash available early on in the PlayOn 2k guaranteed game considering there was only 56 entries last night so just over $1100 of paid entries. Worth having a crack to help Motts and the SCT writers support their sponsor by signing up on the site.

The sites very own Motts was very stiff last night not to share in the prize pool finishing 11th so only 1 spot off a Top 10 finish to share in the prize with 50% of the prize pool or 1K going to the No1 or top finisher.
