Has anyone given any thought to how fantasy football comps are going to work next year when the Gold Coast enters and every week one team has a bye? Will this see the end of an All-Geelong midfield in your SC team because on the week they’re not playing you’re going to be wearing zeros?

  1. Im hoping they extend the benches to accomodate the bye, and increase the salary cap (obviously), more trades would be good aswell. And yeah, ou would need to ensure u dont put all ur eggs in 1 basket so to speak..

  2. either averages or id say more likely an extended bench either one or two extra subs and id say an end to all geelong midfield

  3. I say keep the same system going, your going to get screwed over at some point but everyone will be getting screwed over equally so it’s all good!

  4. Its going to be weird having 17 teams next year. When was the last time we had a bye in the AFL?

  5. They should increase the trades to 30 for the season and have more MPP options, unlike this year where there is only a handful to chose from.

  6. I think they will cap the selections per team at 3 or 4, with 2 per position being allowed. With a reliance on a decent bench, teams may come unstuck unless they allow a bigger Salary Cap for more cash to spend on decent bench players. This may stop teams from incurring the inevitable zero’s that will occur from the bye.

Another idea may be that there will be a ‘split round draft’ type of arrangement which will allow players to temporarily trade out there bye players for the same priced players in other teams. Much like the split round setup that occeured in round 1 of this year.

N.B. By ‘same priced players’ I mean u will get ur cap at the total value of ur players to be temporarily traded out. (4 players at $400,000 gives u $1, 600,000 to spend on 4 new players)-With ur bye players returning for the next round.

I think this will be kept seperate from the regular salary cap so that everyone is in the same boat. I think this would solve the issues of needing more trades and make it more involving and enjoyable for players as they get to make ‘free’ trades each week.

    1. Your contradicting yourself Nicko, you say there’s no need for more trades then you suggest ‘free’ trades each week, isn’t that the same thing.

      1. I dont think so. 20 regular permanent trades for the year, and x amount of free temporary trades per week. I dont class these as trades really as they are only ‘one week fixes’ that effecteively patch-up ur bye holes.

I understand how it can come across as similiar, but more perminant trades in my opinion will not punish the serial traders who deserve to drop off at the end of the season with no trades left. Are you one of those Paul? HAHAHAHA.

  7. I don’t think they will change it a hell of a lot. I think having more MPP players will help with the bye situation. Most players now days play in different positions so Super Coach will reflect that. I also think there will be a few more players in you squad. Players will have to select their squad smartly next year to allow for teams having byes. Hopefully that means people will not just have the same players as is the case now. I hope it is harder next year to reward coaches who choose the right player and tactics not just choose who everyone else has.

  8. they should keep it as it is as for the players with byes they should get there average from past 3 games (showing thier form) eg.
St kilda bye- B.Goddard past 3 games ave 150
    points this round 150

    1. Just playing devils advocate for a minute, what about rounds 1, 2 and 3 or if a certain player has not played three games yet they won’t have an average… I’m sure they’ll come up with a worthy solution.

  9. Changes should be:
    – Increase emergencies from 8 to 11 (3,3,2,3)
    – Increase salary cap from $10M to $11M
    – Increase trades from 20 to 30

  10. I would say they might extend the bench with 4 players in each positions ,and 25 trades to cover the bye …

  11. Hopefully they will just go with the averages.
    But I have a feeling they won’t.
Whatever happens, it will be the same for everyone so….. it will be OK .But it will take some thinking through by the websites and then us coaches, about what to do.
