  1. Def: Howe, Laird, Adams, Docherty, Lloyd, Shaw (ryan, Perryman)
Mids: Titch, Danger, Pendles, Jelwood, Hanners, JPK, Dusty, Fyfe (Greenwood, Berry, Cousins)
    Ruck: Gawn, Martin (Strnadica)
Fwd: Dahl, Buddy, Nank, Lynch, Yeo (Bolton, Parsons)

6 trades left, $38k in bank.

    Currently ranked 395.

Planning on bringing in Witherden this week, leaning towards trading out Berry for him to increase my Cash reserve to $231k but also tossing up whether to trade out perryman instead to have more guys on bench.

Not planning any other trades in coming weeks. Will hold fire till parsons, Greenwood, Ryan, Bolton reach their peak and decide whether to bring in a fallen premium for them or do straight swap of guys like Shaw / Fyfe / Nank to better premiums.
Guys I prob need in team are macrae or heeney in fwd line, and one of hibberd / rance / hurley backline

    1. Sorry my missing forward is Michael Walters. Im also considering gray / steven / rocky in mids if they are a decent price when Greenwood reaches his peak price.

      1. Sounds like a fantastic idea and I love that you have kept Fyfe to loophole with one of the mids you mentioned targeting. I think you should look to find a D7 or F7 quickly to loophole with some of your volatile players (Walters/Lynch/etc) as your midfield is very durable as from their combined premium scoring history they have only missed 69 games from a possible 1102 games.

        1. Yeah thats the plan if I have enough trades will bring in Macrae / heeney and hibberd / rance for a fattened cow to loophole with lynch / walters / Nank and Shaw but if I am running low on trades (which is likely) will end up doing a straight swap.
I keep meaning to bring in Macrae but end up bringing in guys gambling on guys with higher upside as I figure Macrae doesnt really budge in price.

          1. Oh just to add, I am holding of bringing in those guys straight away just because I am low on trades now so will let the next couple of rounds play out before upgrading / sideways trading.

      1. Cheers! its my third year doing SC and this is by far my best year. Last year I scraped into top 3,000.

I think the main differences for me between this year and last was
-thinking ahead re byes when I selected my starting team,
-going aggressive with trading rookies who weren’t getting games (this might come back to bite me as I am low on trades now)
-and just getting lucky with injuries / mid price picks (I avoided roughy, swallow, JOM and unlike last year where I had NicNat, Fyfe, JJ, Houli, Ablett, rocky in my original team the only guy I have traded out this year due to injury was Beams)

  2. DEF: Doch, Laird, Howe, Shaw, Hibberd, Newman (Schrenberg, Ryan)

MID: Danger, Mitchell, Bont, Pendles, JPK, Cripps, Lloyd, Scooter (Greenwood, Witherden, Cousins)

    RUC: Gawn, Jacobs (Strnadica)

FWD: Macrae, Dalh, Buddy, Greene, Heeney, Lynch (Nank, Bayok)

Still have 6 trades left after bringing in Gawn and Witherden this week as well as having 253k ITB for trades next week. I know my midfield should be better but injury of Beams last week meant sideways rather than an upgrade then Gawn a must have IMO this week so thinking Scooter next week to any MID I like then the following week trading Ryan and Schrenberg for M8 (which will also move Lloyd down back) leaving Greenwood to build up for final M9 bench cover option.

Who would people be thinking for those final two MID spots?

    1. S Selwood to J Selwood when he bottoms out is a lock and then depending on funds there are a wide array of options such Z Merrett, L Neale, D Zorko R Sloane, T Rockliff and M Bontempelli.

150,000 left from the Selwood to Selwood trade will allow Greenwood to be traded to a mid between 500,000 to 550,000. Then a trade of a def rookie will add an extra 100,000 allowing you to get any option.

Or you could trade both def rookies to loophole options and swing Lloyd to D7 thus freeing up between 200,000 to 250,000 plus the 150,000 from the Selwood trade leaving you with funds of 350,000 to 400,000. This will allow you to keep Greenwood and trade Cousins to an option between 500,000 and 600,000.

Then with your last 2 trades you could downgrade Witherden and upgrade Greenwood to a premium between 500,000 and 600,000 thus giving you a premium mid at M9 or a mid/fwd to cover any injuries in the forward line.

      1. Cheers great advice Adam Jelwood 100% lock to be into my team wish he had of played last week so he could bottom out quicker haha I think Ill be getting rid of the two DEF rookies because I want to move Lloyd back there. Maybe I shouldnt bring in Witherden I dont think Ill have enough trades to move him on and at worst I still have Greenwood to Cover M9 until I can upgrade him

        1

        0
        1. Bring in Witherden as you will have enough trades.

          Trade 1: S Selwood to J Selwood
Trade 2: M Scharenberg to loophole
Trade 3: L Ryan to loophole rookie and move J Lloyd to D7
Trade 4: Cousins upgraded to a mid premium

          Optional:
Trade 5: Witherden to loophole rookie
          Trade 6: Greenwood to anyone

          1. Understand that I will be able to use the final 2 trades but I am surely bound to have an injury or two in the run home, Id prefer to sideways trade someone if they are going to be out for an extended period of time or potentially the whole season. Thoughts?

            1

            0
            1. Just remember that this a plan/option you can do whatever you like with your remaining trades.

If the first 4 trades are done in the next 2 months/remainder of the season you will have cover for multiple lines and should be able to cover multiple injuries.

If a def is injured you have Lloyd replacing them.
If a mid is injured you will have Greenwood, Witherden
If a fwd is injured you have Nank.
If 2 fwds are injured you can cover them with Nank and Greenwood
If 2 fwds and a 1 mid are injured you have Nank, Greenwood, Witherden for cover
If 2 defs are injured you have Lloyd and Witherden for cover.
If 2 defs and 1 mid are injured you have Lloyd, Witherden and Greenwood for cover.
If 2 defs, 1 mid and 1 fwd are injured you have Lloyd, Witherden, Greenwood and Nank for cover.

The possibility of these scenarios eventuating is low but if they do you will be ready to combat it.

            2. In have made my thoughts known on Adams team.

Having trades in hand is always better than bench cover. Your bench players can also go down with injuries or be rested before finals.

Going into SC finals without any trades is a recipe for disaster.

  3. This will be my finished team disregarding any LTI’s.

DEF: Docherty, Adams, Laird, Hurley, Newman, Hibberd (Ryan, Witherden)

MID: Dangerfield, Martin, Zorko, JPK, Hannebery, Treloar, Jelwood, Rockliff (Myers, Cousins, Mountford)

    RUCK: Martin, Witts (Darcy)

FWD: Yeo, Dahlhaus, Billings, Nankervis, Lynch, Heeney (Eddy, Strnadica)

I currently have 4 trades left, and the only trades I will do from here on out will be to cover LTI’s.

Obviously forward coverage is an issue as neither players on my bench are playing.

I’m currently ranked #4264, which is a huge improvement after my rookie year last year, where the highest I was ever ranked was #98,736.

Although this year has been a massive success for me, I still learned heaps and I am hoping to improve even further in 2018.

    1. Great lineup but the bench depth is very scary. If the inevitable injuries arrive it looks like the only way out is sideways trading. Also if there is a ruck injury there isn’t a way to swing Nankervis as Darcy isn’t a ruck/fwd.

  4. def: docherty, adams, laird, lloyd, newman, hibberd (witherden, scharenberg)
mid: dangerfield, merrett, sloane, bontempelli, murphy, treloar, rockliff, fyfe (ainsworth, fisher, cousins)
    ruc: nankervis, darcy (preuss)
fwd: yeo, macrea, dahlhaus, franklin, heeney, greenwood (mcinnes, white)

    6 trades remaining
    $474,000 in the bank

trade plans: move nank to fwd line, potentially bring in both gawn and s.martin in ruck, consider trading an underperforming mid for a true premium

    1. Definitely have to trade in a premium ruck because that would be the ballsiest ruck setup if you continued with that, I would pick Gawn because i have struggled to trust Martin with Archie Smith in the team.

If you are planning to trade out one of those Mids, maybe wait 2 weeks and then bring in Jelwood at such a low price.

  5. Team as of the start of the week
Def: Docherty, Adams, Laird, Lloyd, Roberton, Hibberd (Witherden, Mcneice)

Mid: Danger, Titch, Jelwood, Bontempelli, Heppell, Treloar, Neale, Beams* (Greenwood, Mountford, Deluca)

    Ruc: Goldy, Witts (Strndica)

Fwd: Yeo, Greene, Dahlhaus, Franklin, Heeney, JJK (Parsons, T.Smith)

5 trades left, $27k in bank

    Currently ranked 8167

Plans for this week is to trade out Beams for either Whitfield or Parker and then leave all trades to LTI, I could trade out Parsons to bring in Dusty for Beams but the community was against that so i scrapped that idea.

Fairly happy with the team, but i feel the Mids are slightly on the lighter side. Should finally have a full team this week as holding on to JJK may have not been the best of ideas

  6. Def: S Docherty, T Adams, R Laird, K Simpson, J Lloyd, S Burgoyne, (H Shaw, M Scharenberg)
    Mid: P Dangerfield, S Pendlebury, G Ablett, J Kennedy, J Selwood, M Bontempelli, N Fyfe, M Priddis, (A Witherden, J Cousins, O Junker)
    Ruck: J Witts, T Goldstein (L Strnadica)
    Fwd: J Macrae, L Dahlhaus, L Franklin, T Lynch, J Steele, H Greenwood, (J Parsons, S Bolton)

    Remaining trades: 5
    Remaining salary: 60,300
    Current rank: 34,005

    Planned trades:
S Bolton and M Scharenberg to S Darcy this week and a loophole player next week. With Yeo and Heeney’s breakevens both 119+they will hopefully drop between 5,000 to 15,000 in price whilst Parsons rises by the same amount and will be upgraded to one of the aforementioned forwards next week.

This will leave me with 2 trades left after RD 17 with H Shaw covering the backline, 2 Def-Mid premiums to cover the midfield, Witherden covering the mids, Darcy covering the rucks and Greenwood covering the Fwds and mids at F7.

Hopefully S Darcy and A Witherden both make to it around 300,000 around RD 20-21 and Darcy will be downgraded and Witherden upgraded to a mid premium around or below 500,000 or a fwd premium thus moving Greenwood to M9. This will finish my team and trades for 2017.

    1. Adam.

Nice team but I must say something about your trade plans.

Bolton will probably play this week. Scharanberg is already a loophole for you.

If you only have 5 trades why go Darcy? He could get injured in 2 weeks then what?

In my experience there is always carnage at the end of the season. injuries, premos rested. late outs etc. If you have to rely on bench cover you will come undone. Bench players can also be rested , Injured etc.

Its always better to have trades left. Trust me I’ve made this mistake before.

If I were you. I would hold trading for at least 3-4 weeks unless you have LTIs.

You need at least 3 trades left coming into SC finals.

Best of luck with the rest of the year.

      1. Not fussed with rankings and finals as I’m to far back in both so I will have to cop the potential donuts. The only reason for trading Scharenberg and Bolton in the next fortnight is to afford the upgrade of J Parsons to E Yeo/I Heeney next week. This means Greenwood, Witherden, Shaw and Darcy will be covering for any injuries. Also S Darcy is being selected as with his low breakeven and Sandi’s injury he should make it to around 250,000+ and should allow Witherden to be upgraded to a premium mid around 500,000.

          1. Thanks Freo Tragic, I appreciate it and I’m glad that the info is beneficial.

Expanding on our discussion above my starting team consisting of only 3 midpricers (Sandi/Roughead/O’Meara) has caused my downfall and lack of cash generating rookies in a year where unpredictability and midpricers have reigned supreme. It has made my situation very tricky. I don’t want to be in the situation of having 2 trades left after next week but bringing in a final Fwd premium is necessary to improve the miniscule chance of winning the weekly prize as overall and leagues are out of the question.

Rookies like Hibberd, Eddy, Balic, Cousins, Hannan, Pickett, Florent and Myers has severely dampened my cash generating situation and ability to bring in premiums. Due to getting rid of their dead weight as well as Roughead, Sandi, O’Meara and Riewoldt this has caused me to have a full or near full premium team with 2 trades left after RD 17.

My research behind most selections were for durable and consistent players and I’m hoping they will uphold the first priority of durability for the remainder of the season. That is why Shaw, Greenwood, Witherden are there to cover the low possibility of a player getting injured/rested.

Also are there any options you would like a sneak peek of for this rounds captaincy candidates.

            1. I’m trying to get P.Cripps in this week.

He is playing a depleted Dees midfield and I think he may go HUGE.

              Danger V/C into Cripps C.

Cripps also went Big in R22 and R23 last year so could be a great POD for SC finals.

              1. P Cripps:

      2. Just regarding you saying Scharenberg is a loophole.

Collingwood will have now written off any finals chances and so it will be likely that young players will be given a shot. There are not many with Scharenberg being the most likely given a consistent spot to improve so I wouldnt be surprised to see him play the majority of games from here out.

        2

        0
        1. He may just do that.

I was just trying to make a point on using a precious trade bringing in a loophole player when inevitably there is one on your bench anyway.

    2. You need trades to spare for emergencies as those trade looks good in an ideal situation, but only 1 or 2 things need to go wrong and a chain reaction wouldn’t be far from occuring, leaving you regretting not having any trades left.

  7. Team after making 2 trades this week. 10 trades remaining and $418,400 in the bank.

DEF: Docherty, Laird, Roberton, Lloyd, Shaw, Hibberd (Ryan, Scharenberg)

MID: Dangerfield, Martin, Mitchell, Adams, Dahlhaus, Treloar, Rockliff, Fyfe (Myers, Witherden, Cousins)

    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn (Cameron)

FWD: Yeo, Macrae, Nankervis, Higgins, Steele, Heeney (Greenwood, Parsons)

Plan for next week is to bring in 2 premium mids and push Dahlhaus back to the Fwd line and Adams back into Def to rotate players with easier match ups.

    Ruc: Mummy Sandi (Strnadica)
Fwd: Heeney Macrae Dahl Nank Lynch Greenwood (Eddy Beech)

    7 trades and $415k left
This week I am trading Sandi to Gawn and S.Selwood/Fyfe to Rocky/Gaz
In the coming weeks I will trade Greenwood and the other of Scooter and Fyfe to Rocky/Gaz and Buddy

  10. Def: Doch, Adams, Touhy, Shaw, Lloyd, Newman (Scharenberg, Ryan)

Mids: Danger, Pendles, Dusty, JSelwood, Fyfe, Ablett, Bont, Greenwood (Witherden, Cousins, Brown)

    Rucks: Kreuzer, Gawn (Strnadica)

Fwds: Yeo, Macrae, Dahl, Heeney, Buddy, Lynch (Eddy, Bolton)

Got 10 trades left after going sandi to Gawn this week, as well as 356k in the bank.

Dont have to rush to much on my last mid as whatever a premium mid will go up in price, Greenwood will still go up more

My plan would be Greenwood to a Cripps/Zorko/Rocky (not sure yet) to fill out the mid, leaving me with cash to upgrade a Shaw? in the backline if need be. Id love to keep Greenwood as cover although it wont leave me with the cash to upgrade else where or if injuries occur.

    Thoughts?

    1. My thoughts are all full of envy.

Thats one mean team. where are you ranked?

With those trades left I would consider Touhy or Newman to a FP like Laird.

If you can also get Cripps at M8 you will be very hard to beat!

      1. Hahahaha thanks

I’m around 11 thousand so not really very good (Around top 6% i believe)

Out of my backs who would you consider to get rid of first, just wondering ?

And do you believe that getting rid of greenwood is the best option to free myself up to improve backline and other areas ?

        Thanks very much

        1. I’m keeping Greenwood as he can cover M9 and loophole Lynch forward.

You might consider trading Cousins for M Hibberd (NM).

This would allow you to trade out Shaw for your last Mid spot. and keep your M/D link.

This would also mean you would be playing Witherden at D6 until he can be upgraded. He should ave close to Shaw anyway.

Best of luck whatever you do.

  11. My team:

Def: Doc, Laird, Adams, Howe, Newman, Shaw (Shaz, Ryan)
Mid: Danger, Sloane, Jelwood, Titch, Bont, JPK, Rocky, Fyfe (Fisher, Cousins, Maynard as a loophole)
    Ruck: Martin, Nank (strnadica)
Fwd: Yeo, Macrae, Dahl, Buddy, Daniher, Greenwood (Parsons, Eddy)

    6 trades with $228200 itb
Fisher > Witherden is a lock for me this week.
Then I can afford Parsons > Gawn via Nank which will leave me with Greenwood as F7/M9 and 4 trades to possibly upgrade a defensive bench cover/cover for injuries.

  12. DEF: Laird, Adams, Docherty, Lloyd, Hibberd, Shaw (Witherden, Perryman)
MID: Titch, Danger, Pendles, Jelwood, Neale, Treloar, Bont, Fyfe (SPP, Bolton, Cousins)
    RUCK: Witts, Nankervis (Strnadica)
FWD: Dahl, Macrae, Heeney, Lynch, Yeo, Greenwood (C Brown, Eddy)

9 trades left, $217,600 in bank.
Currently ranked 5,099 wanting to improve on last years effort of 5407

Was planning on trading in Gawn this week by trading out SPP, moving C Brown to the mids, & move Nankervis to forwards, but I think it can wait a week. And after reading the fallen premiums, (thanks Chillo), I’m almost tempted to trade in either Parker or Cripps instead, so I can put Fyfe on the bench and loop hole him in if he scores a decent one. I like the idea of a decent MID bench player if I’m trading out SPP. Still have Shaw which is also a concern but with Witherden scoring well, I’m going to ride it out for now. Would ideally like more bench rookies playing games (C Brown, Cousins, Bolton, Peryman, Eddy) but not a lot of choice of new rookies, except for Darcy, who won’t fit into my team if I want to keep my DPP Ruck-Fwd link.

    1. Hey lisa

You could look at going Cousins to M. Hibberd (NM). $123K. M/D

This will also open your M/D link. Allowing Witherden to cover D7 and M9

You could then trade SPP to Gawn. Moving Nank to F6 and Greenwood to F7/M9

Best of luck with the rest of your season.

PS. love the team name…. Classic.

      1. Thanks – hadn’t thought about North’s Hibberd – had looked at trading out Cousins and moving Perryman to the MIDS to open up that DPP link but then couldn’t find a rookie DEF to trade in. Decision to be made will now be to do the 2 trades or settle on the one this week. And if just the one, will it be Gawn?

Want to build a big enough bank to make 1 trade upgrades. Also feel with premo’s sitting on D7 , M9 and F7 that non playing rookies will hold importance re loopholing. Jelwood’s my main get in a few weeks then decide on the weaker defensive and Fwd lines et el Tuohy, Newman, Wallis and Nank. Not concerned with Fyfe will be m9 if I have to.

yeo, heeney, macrae, dahlahus, franklin, t lynch (ainsworth, strandica)

I have already traded parsons to darcy this round, leaving 7 trades and 146k cash. Might drop fyfe to dusty or bont

A seasoned coach but tough year this year. Won my cash league last year but really struggling to nail my premiums this year especially with the shortage of rookies hence the low trade count. Looking to win my league so going to sit tight with my trades before finals. Thoughts for improvement please?

    T/U: 4+ trades for finals

Obviously, Sandilands is going to have to be replaced. That will leave me with exactly one trade to cover LTIs. Luckily, I had the foresight to pick durable players, like Taylor Adams and Rory Laird!

Had a tough one a few weeks back when the PIES had a BYE, but Witt’s and Browny were pretty good. Both Maynard and Pendles (me vice captain) had the week off, so I didn’t get the double points. I reckon me team will do more better next year when we sack Buck’s.

    1
    1. Yeah that Bye Round must have been costly Piefan as can’t see too many weaklinks in that line up.

Possibly start playing N.Brown as Captain as i can see you gaining a few extra pts there which could move you up the rankings to 150k overall.

You are right though Buckley is probably the main reason your team hasn’t hit the great heights you expected.

      1. Mate, ya don’t know the half of it! As much as I love Browny, I couldn’t not have Maynard as me captain. He’s the future captain of the club. Probably the best player in the AFL. Its why I named me two son’s after him!

I reckon me player’s will score betterer next year if we get Mick back , cuz kick’s are worth more point’s than handball’s.

    1. Only Docherty missing from what is a very handy team. That forward line would be solid if Greene hadn’t missed with injury again. Only bad thing is you might need to burn three trades to get Doc in at his current price. Hard to see how you’ll work that one. Otherwise a very nice line-up……..

Have enough cash to upgrade Fyfe to Cripps. But not enough cash for anyone over 560K.

TD: Wait until next week, then trade Fyfe for Martin. (Requires a downgrade – 2 trades)

    1. If I were in your position, I’d either strengthen my backline by downgrading EVW to M.Hibberd & upgrading Marchbank to Adams/Laird. Or I’d look at the midfield by downgrading Florent to M.Hibberd & upgrading Barrett to your next favored midfield elite………..

4 Trades remaining (Thanks injuries) and $5,300 left

I’m definitely trading in Witherden this week. I know I don’t have much trades left, but I need to do this to get some money in the bank. Thinking SPP may be the one to get rid of.
I’m holding onto Fyfe because for one he’s had his first-week-back shenanigans, secondly he scores well against the Roos.
I’m on the borderline of making finals and I have mainly very difficult matches coming up, so I don’t know whether I should upgrade Selwood or not. Definitely not upgrading Greenwood just yet, his breakeven is still at -7, whereas Scooter’s is 105. If I was to upgrade I was thinking either Sloane or Rockliff.
    Either way I’m probably screwed

    0

    0
    1. Personally, I’d trade Scooter Selwood out before SPP. Pretty equal cash-wise, but as you mentioned, Scooter has a way higher breakeven

    2. First team I’ve seen with Cotchin in there, big POD if he has a big run to the Finals (SC-Finals!). S.Selwood needs to go and that will give you the nice DPP link with Lloyd and Adams. Obviously Docherty is the big name missing in your team…….

      0

      1. Unfortunately I would still fall $20k below Docherty’s price after making the Witherden trade, so no Docherty for me this year. Plus I do want money spare to upgrade the last few players when the finals come around

10 trades left, 566k in the kitty.

I was thinking of trading Sandi for Gawn (That’s the obvious trade) and Scooter out for either Dusty, Zerret or Titch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m currently 5th in my cash league.

    1. With that many trades and that much cash, then yes! Follow through with those trades and you’re set up nicely for the run home. Dusty, Zerrett or Titch? Personal preference, I guess. Wouldn’t expect too much difference in total pts from here on in……..

  31. I will get a zero cos of Greenwood.

TU p.pepper to Lynch via dpp and shaw to neale via dpp and move witherden to defence
TD cop the zero and keep shaw and trade p. pepper for neale

7 trades and 408K in the bank.

I realise I’m well short of full premium, but I’m not sure what to do this week, if anything. I guess I could upgrade Scharenberg, but he still has a low BE and could return at some stage?

    1. With that much in the bank, I’d simply upgrade Eddy to either Macrae or Gawn (move Nank to FWD) OR upgrade Scharenberg to your preferred DEF premium……
