Hey guys, in my research this week in selecting a replacement for Michael Barlow, I’ve stumbled across some interesting stats that concerns the last 4 games of the Home & Away season (SC Finals). I decided to check out what players scored on their last outings against their respective opposition previously in 2010. Here’s what I found:

Montagna:
Rd 19: Port Adelaide – Last time: Rd 5 140
Rd 20: North Melbourne – Last time: Rd 2 152
Rd 21: Richmond – Last time: Rd 11 143
Rd 22: Adelaide – Last time: Rd 10 159

In other words, Joey has averaged a whopping 148.5 against these relatively easy fixtures in 2010. If you already have Ablett and are contemplating this guy, I recommend you get on him without further hesitation!!

My only big advantage going into finals this year was that I had Montagna & not many others did. Looks like that is gone :(

Oh well looks like I’ll have to join all of you guys & pick up GAJ.

Hey motts, duck, big sexy – I haven’t really payed much attention to the DPP theory all year, however I was just forced to make a DPP trade which I think will work well, I had L.Davis in my forward line and obviously he has been ruled out. I only have 1 playing reserve in devils who is already filling in for j.brown. Therefore to avoid wearing a zero and since none of my midfield are DPP , I traded my midfield sub- D.Martin for dangerfield, I have now sat Davis on the midfield bench and danger comes in to my starting forwards, DPP at it’s best I think. Only problem is now I only have 1 trade to get me through 7 rounds as I also traded maguire for carrazo this week. Couldn’t help myself…… Thoughts?

You’re bonkers! Davis will likely only be out for one week with a sore neck. And you got rid of Martin just to cover a doughnut, leaving you with one solitary trade left? I hope I’m wrong for your sake, but you’re in a bit of strife.

Yeah Chino, I’m with Mike on this one. Reckon you’re going to need at least one trade to get you through the next 7 rounds. Wish you all the best but reckon you’re in a bit of trouble, cobber.

DId the same thing with Davis. Have Playfield & Brownie on the bench in my forwards, so no coverage.

Moved Davis to the mid bench where I have good coverage, Martin on the field, and Danger starting in the forwards – just dodging the donut.

I guess these trades means that you don’t have Barlow. I hope it all works out for you, 1 trade left is manageable, though, a little skinny. Hopefully, you’ve got the bench coverage, or don’t suffer injuries.

LOL! I’m thinking wtf that doesn’t make sense…and I agree with Mike and Motts..Davis will be back next week, and 1 trade will be hard to manage…I hope you can avoid the donuts at the pointy end of the season not just this round!

best barlow trade out of
1) Simon Black
2) Alan Didak
3) Brent (Boomer) Harvey
or anyone else around that sort of price range ??

Personally I’d take Didak. Richo went Boomer earlier this evening but she’s always been a big fan of anyone who hasn’t been in a car from which shots were fired.

Didak for me as well. He’s the most consistent gun from that bunch.

I like both but would take Ibba on the basis that Palmer cost me a trade last week.

Barlow’s misfortune ironically caused by Palmer will enhance the latter’s scoring ablility as he is ripe to increase his TOG from high 60s to early 80s and fill the midfield void left by Micky.
Remind yourself of his scores in the debut 08 season when he was Freo’s No.1 midfielder and often tagged.

Trades this week: $247 400 in the bank 8 trades left

1. Barlow > Ablett
2. Martin > Montagna

Should I pull the trigger on the second trade. Montagna’s 73 BE is too tasty to refuse for my liking. Mids would be
Ablett, Montagna, Judd, Selwood, Gibbs, Pendlebury. Would be very content with that.

Alternatively I could save the trade and money for a future forward upgrade. Thoughts?

Chris Dawes or “The Porps”
as a bench warmer trade for Jack Ziebell ??

No and no.
Better IMO to go for a R Henderson/P Davis type if you have a DPP in the backs or even Neon as his price has dropped so low and has enormous upside potential if he turns it around.

Does anyone think this is a good trade?
Cooney > Montagna
then my mids would be: GAJ, Selwood, Montagna, ROK, Mitchell, Judd
(Martin, Jetta)

If you’ve got 8+ trades left then it gets a maybe however instead of trading out a healthy premium that has missed only 2 games in the last 124 albeit being well down on scoring in the past two weeks, look at upgrading elsewhere in the fwds/defs.

GAJ, there no more excuses in not bringing him, Deano.

Deano July 8, 2010 at 11:41 pm

Yeah I just saw your other post. I’m not yet convinced – it could be a masterstroke not having him. Between the two I struggle to make a strong arguement for GAJ as even if he returns to some reasonable form, there’s only 15 pts diff in their ave and Joey plays much weaker opposition in Rds 19-22.

PA July 8, 2010 at 11:48 pm

I’ve been waiting all year for Gazza’s price to fall and now with Barlow’s unfortunate injury it’s a no brainer, as for Joey there will be games where he gets tagged then NDS and the El Hayes, so expect to see some below average scores. The same will go with GAJ as well.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Jonesy July 9, 2010 at 5:59 pm

I just got GAJ as u can see in my mids. Im not worried about Mitchell because he should be back next week and he still got 135 with a broken hand. I just wanted to get Montagna in and unfortunately Cooney is the weakest link.
