    1. It appears Zane Trew will debut this weekend for the Eagles, as he has been named at half forward for the Sunday team. He isn’t on the extended bench so that should mean he is playing

  3. Hey GD. With Caleb Daniel out you must be loving the Bailey Dale pick huh? Should go 130+ hopefully for ya .

    1. Just an add on to whoever put the thumbs down there…..Dale ended up getting 134! Reckon I was spot on! Haha

  4. No English is expected but disappointing. My dilemma is I have English with either Clarke/Butler as cover – not inspiring, especially after last week (both under 30). I also have Stewart (bench of D’Ambrosio & Wehr) with Daicos on mid bench. Currently with 6 trades and full premo. 2 thoughts I am weighing up

TU – Trade out Stewart, trade in premium replacement, take the hit with Clarke/Butler onfield covering English and pray he is back next week. Aim to be able to trade Stewart back in at Round 20, trades permitting. If so, 2 trades used. If not, only 1 trade used.

TD – Bench Stewart, trade out Wehr, move Daicos from mid bench to D6 as Stewart cover (prefer Daicos as D6 to Wehr/D’Ambrosio). Trade in sub 400K fwd/mid to cover English this week, and be a permanent floater between fwd/mid whilst Daicos covers Stewart. Trade out this floater (or whoever else) in R20, Stewart back onfield, Daicos back to mid bench and trade in a D/M floater to swing with Daicos. Takes 2 trades but allows me to keep Stewart.

I’m probably just over thinking it. Wouldn’t be considering TD if English was back this week. Hating the thought of having to play Butler/Clarke on the field for another week.

    1. I almost had a stroke trying to digest all of that.

Much respect and best of luck with your decisions.

      Ps: Option 2

      20

      0
      1. Haha 🙂

Just “very generally” (and also for Lisa), if you are playing for a league win & have less than 7 trades, then I would seriously consider keeping Stewart through his suspension.

I know that 4 weeks out is a huge amount of time in the scheme of this SC year, but Stewart has 3 of his last 4 games (which are the SC finals) at GMS stadium where he absolutely dominates.

So you are going to want him in your team for the Supercoach finals if at all possible 🙂

PS Lisa – I also like option 2 for you, and maybe with a sub $400K Zac Bailey (FWD / MID) or Luke Jackson (FWD / RUCK) coming into your side.

And with someone like Karl Worner ($102.4k MID / DEF) as your cheap floater before round 20.

        1

        0
        1. Just to add to this my assumption would be that Daicos has been kept as cover for almost exactly this reason. I also agree with Brett above that there are definitely a few nice fwd options around that $400k mark.

Good luck to you Lisa and all!

I still have no idea what to do with Stewart!

          1

          0
          1. Yes Jamhead – I have managed to hold Daicos for that DEF/MID cover, with premiums dropping like flies, its the bench cover now that is so essential to a league win/loss, when so many coaches finalized teams have all the same players.

            1

            0
              1. Nick Daicos – On being rested : “The way he’s playing it’d be ludicrous… We’re mindful. We manage his loads at training. I thought we’d play him sub a couple of weeks ago but it’s unrealistic.” Craig McRae

                3

                0
        2. On your “league win” theory, it all depends if you’re safely ensconced in the top 4 in your important league(s) or sitting 10th and a game out of the finals action.

          4

          0
        3. Thanks Brett – already have L Jackson as my Preuss replacement at R2 and coincidently, had chosen Z Bailey for exactly the reason you mentioned – the handy M/D swing, which will be needed if Daicos ends up parked in the backline for a month. Hadn’t gotten as far as looking at the M/D floater however, so appreciate the input.

Although reading that Laird may be an out this week (who I also have of course) complicates things even further.

          2

          0
    1. It is believed that he hurt his shoulder early in last weeks game and was able to finish the game.
He wore the no contact vest at training. It could have been precautionary?
Last week he trained alone for last session but still played.

      Eagerly awaiting teams to drop.

      2

    1. Caleb Daniel underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee earlier this week to repair cartilage damage. Unclear about return date but the usual time frame is 4 weeks.

      5

      0
    1. “Tim has turned the corner in the last few days and is progressing back towards full training.”

“Not wanting to take risks, Tim won’t play this weekend, but we expect that he will make his return soon after.”

Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell

    1. oh FFS … oh well, as the saying goes “‘Tis the season …” … though that may be for an entirely more enjoyable season!!!
#donuts incoming (if this continues with the likes of Stewart, English, maybe Butters and Owens etc not being available …)

    1. Butters is a test. Needs to get through training to play.
Butters is confident but the club wants to evaluate.

  7. There will be a number of anxious Brayden Pruess coaches out there wanting to see him named to play on the w/e
Fingers crossed McVeigh does not channel is inner Kenny Hinkley and name him on an extended bench just to created uncertainty and anxiousness for another 24 hours.
Remember Hinkley did it with Hayes and then when Sunday teams were confirmed on Friday night he comes out and said he was always going to play. Don’t need a repeat.

  9. Big Preuss being g not named AGAIN is VERY annoying.
I suppose his ankle didn’t recover in time.
He is clearly their #1 ruck so I hope I don’t see him in the VFL this week.

      1. My understanding is that Ward has been out with concussion protocols GM. I imagine the Hawks will be keen to continue to get games into him when he is deemed fit to play.

  15. Port Adelaide: Zak Butters

“Buttsy earlier in the week struggled with change of direction. He wasn’t ready to come up this week. We’re hopeful of next week but he’s going to have to do a bit of training between now & then.”

Chris Davies, Port Adelaide football boss.

  16. Harry Himmelberg still isn’t assured of his role in defence. When asked about Nick Haynes playing forward, allowing Himmelberg back, McVeigh said:
“Potentially. We had a look at that at training. We still think Harry Himmelberg can play a role there as well. We haven’t settled on that at the moment.”
