Don’t know about you but I’m getting pretty skinny on trades. Have you got enough and if so who’s on the radar this week?

Kicking myself I didn’t pull the trigger on Dempsey to H.Shaw last week. Will cost me an extra $30k to do the same trade this week.

Gilles is looking like a real liability at R2 but with his massive price drops over the past month I’m going to have to double trade to get an upgrade.

Thinking this week it will be Stephenson and Giles out for Jacobs & rookie.

Trading Hall -> Baguley/Brown into the mids via A.Kennedy to open up the Def/Mid link. Which of those 2 has the best chance to open up / keep a spot in their team?

Baguley – Thumbs Up
Luke Brown – Thumbs Down

One of the Crows assistants was on 5AA last friday talking about selection & although he said Luke Brown did well he was very much the apprentice to the two more senior players ahead of him. Did not sound like he would be a) get back into the team unless a load of injuries & b) have good JS if he did get in.

Sorry guys, should put this post here
Have 2 trades left, with 112000 in the bank,I was thinking of doing this, Baguley for Marty Clarke, this gives me the opportunity to get burgoyne off my mids bench and back into the backline, that gives me enough cash to upgrade Masten to whoever I want, other five Prems are pendles,GAJ, Thompson, Priddis, Barlow.who to get? Currently sitting 109th.do I save the trades or go for it?

I wouldn’t think you could win it from that far back but a top 100 finish would be pretty special. That said if you use up your trades this week you’ll have to ride out five rounds of footy without any trades. History would say that’s not going to work.

I’m currently 221st and one of my best mates is 102nd. Going into last week we both had two trades left. I decided to save mine, he used his. Mumford is his R2 and he has only Stephenson and Redden on the bench as cover. If Mummy’s injury turns out to be bad his chances at the top 100 are more than likely lost. We currently both wish we were in my situation. Take from that what you will

So much money you just have to keep him. Surely this week against GWS he would go large. Although large for Cloke is 80.

I guess the advantage to this is that I bought him when he bottomed out just under 400k. Well at least I thought he’d bottomed out! I noticed he was playing GWS but looking at the prices of the ROK’s and Petries etc.. I worry that if I hold off, I might miss the boat.

That backline looks pretty good to me Caz. Especially if Shaw comes straight back in which he should.

It’s your forwards and mids that could do with some bulking up.

Mayne’s likely to be back this week so stick with him.

You could trade Smith to Gumbleton and Elliot to Murphy (with Pav into the FWDs) and still have about 80k left over.

I agree with Fishy your backline is your strong line in comparison to others. I would also think about trading Pyke as he is expensive and you need money to upgrade other lines. Do what Fishy said and then next week downgrade Pyke to a no name who won’t need to play and upgrade Patton to Fyfe.

Murphy is a very good pickup, tagged last week by Picken and still got 108. Plus when Judd is back he will start to kill it during the last final weeks. Next year get onto this site earlier and get the rookies right from the start as you have choosen some poor rookies who aren’t getting games. Good luck and I hope you implement this advice and make the finals.

Ellis has knocked out two scores of around 90 in the past 2 weeks. He is starting to hit out a good few decent scores & good JS. Keep Ellis for me.

Johnson & Smedts is a handy DPP to have. I would do what you can to retain it or wait & upgrade Smedts later if his price goes up a fair bit.

I got Couch last week, 12 possessions at 50% eff. is not great. Bombers getting beat may not help Baguley’s JS.

Give it 2 more weeks (first week of SC finals) & i reckon you will be able to do Ellis (350K) to Goddard (400K) for only 50K upgrade.

Pretty simple trade this week to complete my team with only Franklin on the bench waiting to be called up.

Darley —- M Murphy via swapping Carrots into backline (don’t need D/M link)

This leaves me with 3 trades and ~30K for injuries and restings during finals, and a team that looks like this:

Deledio, Scotland, Carrazo, Shaw, Goddard, Birchall, Lake (Shaw & Ellis)
Ablett, Swan, Selwood, Watson, Murphy, Dal Santo (Adams & Gibson)
Goldstein, McEvoy (Big O & Redden)
Franklin, Danger, Sidebum, Beams, Goodes, Zorko, Martin (Porps, Smedts)

Cheers for the votes

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

Reply

jimbo July 23, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Yeah I have thought about that but I think all my bench players have better JS and scoring potential then any downgrade target I can see right now. And if I do need money at any stage I can still downgrade one of those to a no name 93K player who won’t need to play.

I think having Porps on the bench as cover is a masterstroke as if a mid goes down for a week I can put Zorko in the mids and Porps in the forwards, and if a forward goes down (ie Franklin) then Porps comes in. He looks like he is getting some midfield time now his body is fine and he is confident, Adelaide have easy finals run so now I have the good problem of the choice of putting either Martin or Porps on the field.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cloke would be looking perhaps and Steve J if not injured, Cyril Rioli and I hate to say it but Drew Petrie. No point trading your other guys unless you need cash they are on the bench so cover for you. Backline is a little shaky, but seems you have made you trades so no going back now.

Havn’t you noticed Fish, Cazza asks the same question 3-4 times usually in all the different threads even if the thread has nothing to do with his trades. He takes peoples advice for about a day, then the next day he ignores it and asks a slightly different question. At the start of last week he wanted any mid under 574K then midweek wanted any mid under 450K. People gave him the advice to get Murphy. Then ignored that to get Hannebury which wan’t a great decison. He wanted a ruck, then a rookie, then a mid? Seriously you have two trades for the week.
I don’t know if Cazza is just a kid but seriously he doesn’t know what he is doing. Its like he has a thought then just posts it. He doen’t think his way through a post. My advice to Cazza, think about what you want to ask for a day, then form that question, take peoples advice and then implement it. Also and this is the most important DONT KEEP POSTING THE SAME THING IN EVERY THREAD over and over. Stop ignoring peoples advice and people will comment. Post in the right thread aswell. Rant over.

Thanks Horwood, bad luck not getting Zorko. Hopefully next year he is still a M/F DPP because he might be a must have, take those sub affected games and he is averaging over 110.

With this rant I just can’t stand seeing the same poll in the wrong thread, and then in the end Cazza doesn’t even take peoples advice. Blatantly ignores peoples long thought out responses.

Its fine mate. Every week we have the same threads, so at the start of the week in trade talk post your team and ask for advice with your opinions of what you think you can do. Then in Motts Movers ask the specific question you need answered like which mid, back or forward to trade in. If you need a rookie then ask it in BS Rookie review. Your comments are all welcome, its just you ask 4-5 slightly different questions in every thread. So maybe wait till thursday when teams are out and you know who is in and out and then form your one or two trade questions you need answered and that gives you the week to see what others are doing.

If you have the money that is a very good trade. Pav has really settled into the Lyon game plan even with the focus on defence. Freo vs Melb SC GF looks good. Freo fighting for top 8 with Fyfe and Sandipants to come back will only help Pav. Shattered I don’t have him and im stuck with Martin.

From radio interviews with Port coaches & players they all rate Redden but state that he is ‘one for the future’ and currently does not have the tank / base fitness to run out games. I still have him, but poor JS & would be surprised to see him play consecutive games.

Over the last 2 weeks I have been very indecisive on who to trade Ryder for (either McEvoy or Jacobs) so in the end I have held onto him. I have won my past two games with only 1 ruck and with an easy draw coming up I will finish in the top 2 (but out of contention for the overall, ranked 11,000th).

I have heard Ryder with be back in 1-2 weeks, but Essendon have a tough draw from Rounds 20-23. I have only 3 trades left but enough money in the bank to afford any ruck.

T/U – Keep Ryder, you have held onto him for this long and trades are gold come finals.
T/D – Trade Ryder, a combination of coming back from injury and a tough draw will result in sub-par scores. And if so which ruck is the best option for the finals?

Current rucks: Naitanui, RYDER, (Stephenson, Campbell)

Thanks guys, any input with be greatly appreciated!

Got Stanton & T.Adams as M6 and M7 (or F8) respectively. Got 4 trades left & 165K in the bank + comfortable with league positions, but Marc Murphy a good upgrade option this week.

Thumbs UP: Taylor Adams to Marc Murphy (Stanton handy M7 & cover)
Thumbs DOWN: Stanton straight swop Marc Murphy & keep money

Comments from Bombers fans on whether Stanton can get back to early form would be appreciated.

No chance that Stanton will revert back to early season form. I was close to thinking about getting him in but I know he is just the biggest seagull in the AFL and decided not. Essendon have a very hard run home still can’t see any wins on the horizon with our current form and teams have figured out tag Stanton and we lack run, especially without Zaha playing. Stanton obviously will play every game so he would be good cover, although Adams gives you relexability which could be good cover if you have a good forward bench. Stanton to Murphy is not a sideways trade it is easily an upgrade.

Cheers Jimbo, agree on the upgrade comment, defo a mid to prem. Still an interesting one. Stanton has good JS & hopefully should still average around 80 to 90 points so good cover. Adams when he plays is handy DPP cover, but GWS rotations worry me for the SC finals.

After a bad decision to choose Joelwood as Captain, my score fell 150 points of it’s potential! with 2,300 instead of 2,450.. That being said… I have one more trade and just trying to ride out these last 2 rounds here is my team:

B: Lids, Goddard, Carrots, Scotland, Lake, M. Johnson, S. Shaw (Smedts/Ellis)
M: GAJ, Swan, Thompson, Joelwood, Priddis, Goodes (Gibson, L Brown)
R: Cox, Giles (Redden/Daw)
F: ROK, Zorko, Porps, Cyril, Chapman, Danger, Sidebum (Elliot/Sexton)

I traded out Buddy as I simply needed to win! I have jumped from 12th to 7th as I’d hoped in my cash league.. I have a very good chance at getting 6th as I should take the last 2 rounds..

$260k in the kitty with 1 trade

TU: Ride the wave to the finals then trade out GIles to Jacobs in R1 of finals.
TD: Ride the wave to the finals then trade out Gibson for Murphy and shift Goodes into the FWDs for Porps (I can’t see this being the right move as Porps is out performing Goodes and no point having him on the bench.. I just need someone to tell me this is right!)

PS. Been managing this team from Vancouver Canada, but have for the last couple of weeks been rolling out of Seattle/Portland and currently Vegas! This site is the bomb.

Good team Al. Glad you got your wins to get you in the 8 for your cash league(s).
Brogan mentioned as probable inclusion this week for GWS so Giles or Phillips likely to be rested. However you mention that you should win final two games easily so no problem for you. Holding trades for finals is the plan, just decide then based on your LTI’s who needs to be traded.
Shame you have not got 2 trades left to go Gibson to M.Murphy and also Giles out.

Giles out has to be number one priority for all teams with him still in there. haven’t watched a GWS game for a while but he has clearly run out of steam and is likely to be in and out of the team for the rest of the year and scoring poorly when he is in the team.

As you said, Porps is doing a good job lately so the points you make by trading Giles far outway the points you would make by effectively playing Murphy instead of Porps.

rucks – Giles, Kruezer, (Jenkins, Big O)

First priority has to be the rucks.

I’d trade Giles for Jacobs to start. Then wait 2 weeks and trade Jenkins to Cox and have Kreuz as back up ruck.

Only other 2 upgrades I see that you need to make are Porps in the fwds and possiblely S.Selwood in the mids.

Nice team though!

Ok guys, I have a serious dilema on my mind at the moment.
I need to win the last two games of my cash league to make top 4. My current team is as follows:

Def: Deledio, Scotland, Goddard, Birchall, Lake, H.Shaw, Yarran (Newman, Spurr)
Mid: JPK, Ablett, Mitchell, J.Selwood, Priddis, Pendles (Barlow, Gibson)
Rucks: Roughead, Giles (Stephenson, Campbell)
Fwd: Danger, Beams, Chapman, Lewis, Martin, Zorko, Sylvia (Franklin, Crozier)

My dilema is I have 2 trades left and my ideal move would be to trade Gibson to Couch and Giles for best available but that means I could only get Goldstein/Griffin/Hale.
My other option is to trade Barlow for Couch and then can trade in Jacobs for Stephenson this week or wait one week and get Cox.
I could then use Sylvia/Martin as mid/fwd emergency once Franklin comes back and have Giles as cover in case of injury in the rucks. I really like the idea of having Barlow as my mid cover and Sylvia as my fwd cover though….

I’m so confused and any comments would be much appreciated.

Hold those trades. Why so concerned with the top 4? I’d rather finish 5-8 with 2 trades than 4th with 0 trades, especially as it means you’d play 1st in the first week of finals and would very likely be out in straight sets. Your bench cover is really good, so check your opponents and have a look at their likely starting line up. I’d be suprised if many teams have a full premuim team on the field across all lines at the moment, so all your really doing is having Giles up against a non premium from another line. Imagine doing your double trade to get Cox in, then the Eagles rest him/he gets injured in the first/second week of finals and you have no trades and no bench cover in the rucks…

If you’re really worried about Giles losing money, then consider a trade to someone like Bellchambers or Warnock so you can keep a trade for a rainy day. After watching Friday’s match, I can’t see Hille getting picked ahead of Belly anymore and Ryder would likely play FF/CHF when he and Hurley return, so his return shouldn’t see Belly’s scoring drop dramatically (although his goal scoring might dry up a bit). Warnock should slot back into Carlton’s No1 ruck position too, so he could be an interesting POD. Just my thoughts tho…

Stubbsy, the beauty of coming top 4 is you get a double chance the same as AFL top 4 clubs receive. Win the 1st game & you go straight to the pre-lim, lose the first week & you play the winner of an elimination finalist (5th to 8th placed teams) in the 2nd week of SC finals.

Hit the wrong button and ended up 25th July 2011, but in the read Hairy Cat picked Brenden Sanderson as coach of the crows 2012.
Now for 2013 will Ratten go and be replaced by MIck Malthouse. This may mean will Cloke leave Collingwood to Carlton, who really would want him, but could be on the cards.
Is this possible.

Giles to Bellchambers or Pyke is a nothing trade. Either keep Giles, if you need to keep trades or Flick one of your rookies that have gone up plus giles and get a Decent ruck, Cox, Nic Nat, Roughie, Goldstein, Mullet, Sammy Jacobs. It will cost you two but worth the money.

Thinking of trading Horsely for Baguley, which would give me an extra $200k and also Baguley is DPP (Mid/Def). Total Salary would then be $540K, with 5 trades after this trade. So will then have options to upgrade to more premiums leading into finals. Will make finals in 3-4 of my 4 SC sides.

Side is:
Deledio, Goddard, Lake, Hurn, Michael Johnson, Suckling, Ellis (Spurr, Sam Shaw)
Kennedy, Swan, Thompson, Mitchell, Dal Santo, Gibson (Horsely, Adam Kennedy)
Jacobs, Nic Nat (Redden, Tom Campbell)
Franklin, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Cloke, Goodes, Zorko, Devon Smith (A. Hall, Smedts)

Would like to upgrade to another premium fwd, mid and back. Also not sure whether to ditch Cloke, Goddard and/or DalSanto. For Mids, J. Selwood has high BE so may be worth bringing in next week, or week after. Also Marc Murphy is cheap.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Horsely has reached his used by date and although Baugley doesn’t have solid JS he still provides DPP value. I wouldn’t be worrying about DalSanto, Goddard and Cloke, they all have very good JS and can pump out big scores and you only have 5 trades left with rookies who have less JS and less scoring potential. You need to try to eliminate those rookies like Smith, Gibson and Ellis.

Think about:
Gibson — Murphy
Smith — Fyfe when back from injury
Ellis — Carrazo or Birchall

Hopefully you can do those trades, you’ll have a good team and with 2 trades left for injuries you should be able to challenge for the league win.

You have finished your bookends in forwards and backline, but the most important line to get right is the midfield. With Treolar on the field you need to get a top line premium. Giles is falling away so you need to upgrade there as well.

I would go McDonald down to Couch to give you money, then Treolar up to Murphy. Then next week Giles up to Maric, McEvoy or Jacobs. This finishes your team with 2 trades left incase of injuries. Very good team as well I would be happy with what you have done so far.

Hold the three trades and put Zorko on the field in the midfield ahead of Stanton. If your not going to make the 8 then trade Stanton. Otherwise if your up there just hold the trades as there will be injuries and players being rested. Your opponents will have minimum trades therefore you having three is a big positive. Is that Michael Johnson if your forward line??

Malceski to Enright is a good move. Great chance of Enright going big & unlikely to be dropped with the cats needing to win a few of their tough games. Malceski to Scotland would also be a solid option as he is going cheap ($484K??).

Cloke will come good (or at least go big in a couple of games), i am sure of it. Chappy has a huge BE anyway so you could pick him up in a couple of weeks if Cloke proves me wrong. Fyfe will also be attractive (price wise anyway!) in a couple of weeks.

I can’t afford Pfeiffer -> Pendles and if I’m going to make two trades I’d rather get two upgrades than keep Zorko just for the sake of it.
