Trade Talk Rd4 – PART TWO

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 10 2018

So much happening, so many Coaches in need of our help.  Should we trade a premium sideways if they’re not performing?  With Liam Ryan out for 10 weeks, will you be moving him on? What trades are you thinking about ahead of Rd4?

  1. Have been lucky enough to not have used a trade yet.

Thinking a luxury rookie correction, Brayshaw not going as well as I would have hoped, BE of 33 concerning. Would usually hold but with some bubble boys coming through could pocket the coin…

    TU: Crowden
TD: Henry/Richards (via Finlayson DPP) then means I have to field one of Naughton/Murphy/New guy on field.

    1. Any Geelong supporter’s know what Henry’s JS is like? I’m worried he’ll make way for either Henderson (soon) or Taylor (who know’s)

      4

      2
      1. Taylor is out for an extended period of time so no need to worry about him.

Henderson is listed 1-2 weeks (from memory) however i believe geelong will be extra careful and still could be up to a month away.

Henry is highly rated and hasnt done any harm to his playing time so far.

All depends on what that clown Scott wants to do with his team selection (play 1 key defender and kolo takes the 2nd. Or play hendo and henry freeing up kolo for a wing.) Anyones guess as look, Geelong played no ruck against nic nat!

        1

        2
    2. I’d vote against that mate if it means having Finlayson on yr mid bench. IMO his points are too valuable down back on field to be starting a Richards over him. According to the thumbs though that is going against the majority

      8

      2
      1. The situation is we don’t know if he is replacing Brayshaw on the field or on the bench., so we don’t know if it is a good idea or not.

        1

  2. Was set on jack graham to ed richards and lycett to grundy or nicnat but with the liam ryan news will need to move him on and pick one of the above.
Which move to make this week
T/u jack graham to ed richards

T/d lycett to grundy or nicnat, and look to trade graham to coffield or higgins next week

    1

    23
    1. Now Im tempted to stick to original plan of graham and lycett out for richards and grundy and use ryan for a while to loophole frietsch and garlett

      3

      2
    1. T/u Marchbank and Brayshaw to Ryan and Henry via Garlett dpp

      T/d Marchbank to Bonner

Comment Carry Marchbank a month and field Murray

      18

      2
      1. I thinking of holding on Marchbank. He’s looked good so far and was on track for a decent score before getting injured on Friday.

        3

        1
    2. As a marchbank owner, do you know what the injury exactly is? and if it is guaranteed 4 week? Possibly more or less weeks.

      1

      0
      1. I read somewhere that it shouldn’t be more than four weeks. Could be less. I’d be holding if I had him.

        0

        3
  3. Ok so Ryan is gone until mid-July, gotta trade him.

    Ryan to:

    TU: Henry (GEE 123k)
    TD: Crowden (FRE 117k)

Reckon Ryan will be a potential downgrade post-byes with that -88 BE and potential scoring ability.

    34

    12
      1. He’s a forward in Supercoach, but playing in defence. With Harry Taylor and Lachie Henderson out for another couple of weeks, plus now Ablett, Guthrie and Cockatoo going down, there’s reasonable job security at Geelong. Add to that a breakeven of -46 and a score of 93 in R3 that will make his next two price rises juicy. And there’s nobody else. 🙂

  4. surely we see a poll on the best ryan replacement out of the fwd rookies
    im thinking…crowden as better js
    tu – crowden
    td – jack henry
not sure about higgins – i dont like his js

    7

    25
      1. I wouldn’t necessarily say that DC. Richmond has a lot of similar players to Higgins and will have bolten and Rioli etc breathing down his neck. Henry’s JS worries me in 2 weeks when the Geelong keys are back. I think Crowden has the better JS, as he has been number 1 for pressure acts at Freo the last 2 weeks I’m pretty sure. We know about the FURL factor, but he loves that sort of stuff and is a big fan of ‘role players’. If he can keep that pressure up, he has to keep his spot. Question is…Can he keep it up?
Would love to see another game from Higgins before making the decision, but if he fails we have missed the boat on Crowden/Henry and may find it tough to find a suitable replacement for Ryan next week.
        Decisions, decisions!

        7

        1
  5. also have T. Cole on my bench from wce in def
not sure who i should trade in to generate cash
tu – ed richards (thoughts on his js)
    td – coffield…
have barry in mids that may get dropped this week..

    13

    12
    1. is this trade necessary?

current defenders – laird, sicily, bonner, doedee, finlayson, murray, naughton.

will cole get a game soon – should i wait or trade

      tu – wait
      td – trade

      22

      19
      1. West Coast defence looks settled, and Duggan was out injured last week plus Watson is probably in front of Cole?

Got to generate cash in addition to your stable starting six with Naughton who is the bench cover slow burner. There are plenty of defender rookies generating cash over the next 3-4 weeks if they can make team selection.

        5

        1
  6. TU: Brayshaw and Ryan to Coniglio and a bubble boy (but use $200k danger fund)

TD: Ryan to a bubble boy (keep danger fund)

    18

    28
  7. St Kilda is looking like a bottom 4 team (not what I was expecting), and Armitage is costing me an average of 40 – 50 points each week. After a good first week, Jack Graham seems to have been used as a tagger and gone backwards in scoring and I’m now starting Holman on field in preference to him. This would be the only week I would be able to afford to get Conglio.

T/U – trade Graham to Crowden (if named) and then upgrade Armitage to Conglio

T/D – Armitage and Graham will both get 100+ scores as soon as I trade them

    39

    3
    1. Im trading graham, his 100 in rd1 was largely to do with laying 13 tackles, he was actually on quite a low score at half time till he was sent to cripps in 2nd half.
His possession count in all three games has been fairly low and without the huge tackle count in rd1 I think you can expect him to average 40-60 which really isnt enough for someone his price.

      6

      1
      1. Thanks Joey, I hadn’t looked at Graham’s first round score in the detail you provided, I appreciate your feedback.

        3

        0
        1. I think Crowden’s spot is safe. Read an article that he has lead Freo in pressure acts over the last 2 games, something Ross froths over.

He looked pretty good last week against GC the little nugget.

          7

          0
          1. Crowden may keep his spot but I wouldn’t expect him to score much more than 50 points per week .

He plays a very defensive role.I see a very slow burn for maybe $120K

I’m also wary after Balic last year. FURL!

            7

  8. Thinking of trading out Brayshaw or LDU for Richards (via Finlayson DPP) for cash generation and so that I can put Murray on the field. If so, who should I trade out?

TU: Trade out Brayshaw (Higher B/E but higher average)
TD: Trade out LDU (Lower B/E but lower average)

Also comment if you think I should just hold

    6

    23
  9. Trade 1: Liam Ryan out, swing Sicily forward and bring in Ed Richards?

Trade 2: Ryan out and straight swap with forward on the bubble?

    17

    16
  10. Is anyone contemplating trading danger and getting him back at 80k cheaper. Burning 2 trades yes but also pocketing the cash

    TU – Stupid move
TD – Not such a bad play

    102

    4
    1. Either would be a good “in” but it depends who you’d be playing on field in either scenario (i.e., if you move in Luke Ryan, does that mean a higher-averaging rookie goes to the pine?).

      5

      1
      1. Rookies will be the same in both scenarios because of Sicily moving.

        Backline of 3x rookie + 2 premiums + Sicily/Ryan
        Forward line of 2x rookie + 3 premiums + Sicily/Smith

        0

        0
        1. Fair enough if the quality of on-field rookies doesn’t change.

To me it looks like a coin-flip because they cost the same and should both end up top-8 in their position.

To support that statement, Smith can score well as evidenced by his time at GWS but I can’t see him pushing much beyond his current average of 96. That’s handy for now and should hold up for the season (for 2017, that would have put him at equal-7th for average).

For Ryan, it’s crazy to think he’s only played 14 games of AFL footy and has averaged 104 this year. So crazy that, even though he has a SC-friendly role, I can’t see him maintaining that for the season (I’d expect him to settle pretty close to the 96 that Smith is currently averaging). That would still be good enough for top-8 defender (again, based on 2017 figures).

So I would justify taking Smith if I was looking for lower risk due to history and not being coached by Ross Lyon (even though it looks like he may have pulled his finger out this year). And Ryan you could look at a higher reward due to higher ceiling (even if based on limited sample size).

For me, I’d probably go Ryan because he has a higher average at the moment and the whole point of SC is to put points on the board.

Sorry, that was more long-winded than it needed to be…

          5

          0
  11. TU: Mason Cox to Tim English & Ryan to Henry (350 k in the bank for danger)

TD: Mason Cox – Mclean/Gray & Ryan to henry (30-40k in bank)

    1

    32
    1. I always prefer to have my money making points sooner.
Depends on how long it will take for you to bring danger in and at what price. If it’s 3 weeks, then Gray could possibly have put on another 300 points, so it would take 10 weeks for danger to recoup that (although Gray’s bye…). McLean doesn’t have that bye….

      4

      0
  12. 1 trade this week will be Ryan into McLean , will blow my war chest but can’t afford to have 2 players in the forward line with the dredded red line

  13. Stuck on this one. I have used 2 trades alresdy to cover injury and a corrective which failed

Want to go Brayshaw to coniglio and LDU to richards via finlayson dpp

    T/u good trade
T/d hold your trades you fool

    27

    2
    1. One down, one up is the usual format for trades.

LDU and Brayshaw probably haven’t peaked yet, but Coniglio is also well undervalued.

      Go for it.

      1

  14. Looking to spend Danger money by going Brayshaw to Henry (via Garlett DPP) and Ryan to….

    TU: Walters
    TD: Gray

    17

    19
  15. Who to bring in for Liam Ryan.

T/U: Richards, which means I field Murray and only have to play one of Fritsch and Garlett
T/D: Henry, which means Murray stays on the bench and have to play two of Fritsch, Garlett and Henry

    19

    6
    1. Ideally, you want to playing Murray on the field over Fritsch and Garlett. However, I do like Henry over Richards…

      3

  16. L.Ryan(WC) trade to

    TU: Walters

    TD: McLean

Will either or both be a 6 forward?

Should I consider another possible premium forward..thoughts appreciated

Already have Buddy, Heeney, Greene & DSmith..

  17. Hi chaps.

Lost my loophole with Coffield being named last week and have english in ruck.
Have all the “want to” have rookies.

    Ryan’s injury causes a dilemma.

    Do I

TU. Leave ryan as loophole and wait for zgl to reurn. Will have probable injury issues to create a loophole then.

TD. Do a direct trade of Ryan to Henry

Comments. Get rid of Ryan. Swap English to fwd and get a loophole ruck. Other rucks are Gawn and Martin

    8

    14
  18. Penny for your thoughts.

Liam Ryan -> Jack Henry (make 70.2k)
Dow -> Ratugolea (via Shephenson DPP) (make 76.5k)

    TU – make both trades
TD – Just Ryan to Henry and keep Dow.

    3

    25
  19. Howdy all,

Quite nonplussed re: Merret, wanting to trade him out but know that as soon as I do he will pump out 100+.

I am currently without Dusty and Coniglio, but sitting pretty in the top 2%. Main concern is that Merrett does not look like a top 8 MID based on what we’ve seen so far.

T/U: Trade Merrett out to Dusty/Coniglio
T/D: Stick fat, especially because Merrett has already lost so much value.

    6

    22
  20. Of petracca, curnow & Hogan whose the best option. I will probably have to replace lobb if his injury is 2+ weeks on the sideline. Also are Richards and Henry good options to replace Liam Ryan and possibly naughton? Cheers guys

  21. Thoughts on these trades lads: Ryan OUT Henry/Crowden IN, Lobb (if out for 2+ weeks) OUT McLean IN. Would leave me with $77-$84k

    12

    1
  22. Currently have 28 trades left

TU Ryan to Henry this week and Langdon to Higgins +Brayshaw to Coffield next week

TD hold trades this week then Ryan to Higgins next week + Brayshaw to coffield and keep Langdon since he’s only a few weeks from being match fit again

    12
          1. I agree. Heeney .

Buddy is a rollercoaster but so much fun to own when he is on fire. He may be cheeper later in the year, but he could also go Huge this week against an undermanned Dogs defence. He is always a V/C option when playing early too.

Or go Mundy if you want a reliable POD.

  24. I did this lads..

Armo – Liam Ryan – OUT.

Hogan and Richards IN with Finalyson moving to on-field mids.

    Thoughts?

    TU – GOOD
    TD – BAD

    17
  25. Well, because my last comment on the previous trade talk thread was the last one made, hence is never got seen. I’m just gonna copy+paste what I wrote before:

    April 10, 2018 at 6:05 pm
A slight change to what I was wanting to do this week. I was going to hold onto Ryan had he been only out for a couple of weeks, but it looks like it will be a fair bit longer than that with either bone or ligament damage. So with Langdon, Fogarty, as well as Brayshaw doing very average. I think two trades is the more appropriate choice, or else I’ll be having no backup in my forward if someone else gets pulled out of the side.

This is what I’m thinking of doing the moment. Keep in mind, I already have around 200k spare in my salary cap.

    OUT: Ryan, Brayshaw
    IN: J. Higgins, Hogan/Acres/Curnow

I know in a normal situation, I should be waiting another week before getting Higgins. But because of my situation now, I need to bring him in now, because there’s not too many better choices at the moment as a downgrade option. Crowden doesn’t interest me considering he’s scored 29 in his first game. Higgins looks a lot more consistent.

If anyone thinks I should be heading in another direction with my trades, let me know what you’d be doing.

    0

    9
    1. Cory.

My advice would be to hold Brayshaw. He should at least make his BE.

Higgins can surely wait. Don’t you know the Josh Glen rule?

I may be wrong “and often are” But I can’t see Hogan ,Acres or Curnow making top 10 forward this year. If you can’t afford a Mclean, Heeney , Mundy type its not really worth it.

      Ryan needs to go.

      Henry maybe?

Or wait a week for Higgins.

      13

      0
      1. I have no bloody clue who Josh Glen is, or his rule.

The thing is, with this Henry guy (who I had no clue who he was until yesterday), I’m more concerned about his security in his side than Higgins or Crowden. There’s plenty of forwards to still come back into the Cats side really soon. I don’t want to bring in someone who might only be there for one more week and then never plays another game again this year. There’s not many good, solid options to bring in for Ryan.

        0

        10
        1. Hey Corey. The Josh Glenn Rule is something the SCT community came up with after several painful experiences. It says something to the effect of “don’t bring in a rookie until he is selected for his third game”.

Jack Henry is listed as a forward for Supercoach, but has been playing in defence. He had a bunch of intercept possessions last week to boost his score.

          5

          0
        2. Cory.

Josh Glen played one, yes just one ,very impressive game a few years ago. Many coaches jumped on early and were burnt pretty bad. Two trades for no cash growth is BAD!

Henry is currently playing defence for the Cats. He is on the Bubble and will increase in price this week.

Geelong have a growing injury list and I feel he will probably hold his spot for the next 3/4 weeks at least.

You could also wait a week on Higgins.

I agree with you on Crowden. I think he will make way when Brad Hill returns. But who knows what FURL will do?

          Best of luck. 🙂

          8

          0
          1. Maybe Josh Glen played two games. My memory ain’t what it used to be.

Eitherway he didn’t get named week three and never experienced cash growth.

            Wait on Higgins. 🙂

            8

            0
  26. I have Marchbank.have finlayson and Murphy as cover.
TU. Hold. He got 40 points in a qtr and if you have the good rookies just ride it out.
TD. Use cash elsewhere or raid war chest and upgrade now.

  27. Such an awful place to get any help. Ppl ask for opinions and help with there posts n teams and get a blunt thumbs up or thumbs down and get no decent reply from anyone.. it’s extremely frustrating when ppl want some guidance

    2

    20
      1. Not in particular right now. But have been times in the past. I do appreciate the hard work and the depth of the articles all you guys write. They are top notch and very helpful! So keep it up mate

        4

        1
        1. Of course, we enjoy helping out as much as possible. We also rely on the SCT Coaches to ‘critique’ the ideas of fellow SuperCoaches. Sometimes the Thumbs function is a quick way to do so if time is running low. Can understand what you mean…….

          5

          0
          1. I find the best way to make a decision is by reading and analysing previous comments. Therefore you get a wide variety of feedback and comments from other members, therefore getting a ‘feel’ for the trends of that particular week.

Also, many of the questions and queries have been already commented earlier in the comments (unless of course it is early in the week).

            7

            0
  28. Forwards are underperforming however trying to maintain trades for later in the season.
Two most underwhelming forwards I have are Jacob Townsend and Kieran Jack. I have 110k in pocket from a few players going up with 27 trades remaining (due to injury). Need some solid performing forwards that will last the season (R.I.P Liam Ryan)

T/U Keep Jacob Townsend and Kieran Jack with the hope they will improve
T/D Trade one for a premium forward (insert suggestion) and then Liam Ryan for (insert suggestion)

P.S Sorry if this is not the typical post ‘ettiquite’. I am a first time poster.

    2

    10
    1. jcollings.

      I would get Mclean/ Mundy/ Heeney.

Ryan could go for Henry (cats) or wait a week for Higgins.

Its easier for me to comment if you list your current forward line.

      8

      0
      1. Freo Tragic,

        Thank you for the feedback.
Current forward line set up is Franklin, Lynch, Sicily, Christensen, Kieran Jack and T. English with Townsend and Ryan as interchange

        0

        0
        1. hi jcollings

Townsend has a BE of 112 this week so is expected to drop another $22.3k.
Jack has a BE of 114 this week and is also expected to drop another $22k.
Neither should drop much if at all, after that., since these subsequent revised prices will better reflect their similarly poor starts.

If you haven’t traded either before their initial price drop, it then becomes a much harder decision to make. Given Father Dougal’s sage advice about players returning to the norm, you’d then expect them both to return to something similar to last year, yielding both better scores and better prices.

Both are capable of hitting their BE especially given their opposition this week.

Personally I would have traded them both last week as corrective trades (I did trade Townsend as I had him), but if I still had them now I’d be tempted to HOLD them both and see the ride through.

If I was pushed to trade one of them it would be Jack. He has injury concerns to me and has consistently decreased in SC ave. for the last six years, from 112 to 109 to 102 to 98 to 89 to 74 and now just 68. His best years are surely behind him. Townsend’s are surely ahead of him. He also has a higher $ value right now so affords better options.

So, given you have a $110k in the bank, to optimise right now I personally would
          Trade OUT: Jack and Ryan
Trade IN: Henry (GEE) and McLean (or as FT suggested any one of those others, though Mclean offers the most upside)

Good luck with it. Hope that helps 😉

I wouldn’t keep him long term.

As a loophole for a week then go to Higgins type. otherwise you waste cash generation.

  29. Trading GAJ to one of..

    TU Macrae

    TD Simpson via Finlayson

Comment a clearly other better option.

Danger was the plan but he can wait a little longer for a price drop.
    Cheers!

    16

    1
    1. Macrea or another Mid Premo.

Its hard to comment without knowing your structure. Byes etc.

If you already have 3 premo backs Simpson seems a waste if you can play Finlayson on field in defence.

I’m not sure of your Mid Premos but I would consider Cogs for value if you don’t have him. looks the goods and still under $500K

      5

      1. Laird Hibberd Savage
        Finlayson Doedee Murray

        Titch Dusty GAJ Fyfe
        Cripps Cogs Kelly Holman

My thinking is I’m sure Simpson will finish as a top defender where as I’m still unsure about Macrae and the mids.
Not stressing about the byes at this point.

        Appreciate your feedback Freo.

I agree Simpson is a great pick in defence but he is likely to ave 95 / 100 from here on in.Thats only 20/25 more than a rookie in his place. Murray ave 75.

A premo Mid should ave 110+ 30/40 points more than a rookie in his place, and 15 more than Simpson. I would get a premo mid over Simpson at this stage of the season.

I would consider Gibbs. I think he finished top 10 mids last year. That was playing for the Blues. 🙂

He seems to be in career best form at the Crows. Teams tend to tag Sloane if anyone. Thats good for Bryce.

I think he could be a great POD at only 6% ownership.

He is currently priced at $575.800 with a B/E of 95

          3 round ave of 121.

I think he is worth a look.

Or if you really want to take a punt you could go

          Jarryd Lyons. ….Jarryd Who?

Seems to be the no 1 man at the Suns this year.

A Hall gets the tag and Jarryd just racks up the touches.

          3 round Ave of 118.7

He will probably finish just outside top 10 mids this year but who knows? At $521K and only .5% ownership he would be a
          very ballsy move indeed.

          1. Good point in getting a mid over a defender.

Actually went to school with Jarryd haha great player and killing it atm!
But I think Gibbs could very well be the way to go, will have a ponder and leave it till the last minute as usual.

    1. Davos.

A lot of folks jumped off the Bont and Daulhouse last week “the Dogs are no good this year”

Then “The Bont”goes Bang 116. and Daulhouse gets 113.

The Saints will improve and Billings will come good.

I would look at downgrading Graham when a suitable rookie pops up on the bubble.

  30. Brandon Ellis has averaged 91,85,100,97 over the last four years so and hasn’t missed a game in this time, assuming he ends the year averaging 90, he will average 95 for the rest of this season.

TU Keep him he will finish the year averaging 90+ as in other years
TD Jump ship his poor form is a sign of things to come

      1. Personally I’d have done it last week. Seedsman doesn’t seem to be a favourite on here. I was talked out of him pre-season and whilst not overly disappointed, I should’ve followed my instincts.
Now that he has had an initial price-rise he is not so attractive and averaging mid-90s he is not a MID-keeper. But being a confidence player and with good JS with Crows’ current injury list, he should fatten another 60k, should outscore Armo and should provide either,
        a stepping stone to a premo-Mid, or
with DPP and consistency, could be a long-term D6/7

Go with your instinct. Whilst I ask for a lot of advice on here, I don’t necessarily always follow the feedback, but I do strongly consider, evaluate and scrutinise every. single. trade. Treat them like gold and you’ll be fine 🙂

        1. Only 13 defenders averaged 90+ last season with 3 of that group currently out injured. If you think he can average 85 -90 he will make you cash and by how the premium defenders are performing together with the weekly percentage reduction you will require less than $100,000 to get say a Hurley from Rounds 8 through to his bye even if Hurley averages around 100 from now.

All the premium defenders are leaking cash at the moment with the exception of Laird and Simpson.

  32. Trading merrett out this week. Who would be the more consistent or better pick

    Thumbs up McRae
    Thumbs down Oliver

    12

    14
  33. Moose i am a Merrett owner and i am as frustrated as you with his 55 average. However he averages 116.8 against the Power so i am holding.

Merrett has lost 86k and could find form soon and Coaches will Trade him at 450k and use him as a POD against your Team which will sting if he goes big.

A lot of people traded out Fyfe last year and we know how he turned it around in the 2nd half of the year.

I recommend you hold as Trades are valuable and you can’t Trade out every premium after injury affected and poor form scores. The tide will turn and hopefully it is this week.

    5

    1. Tagging is back and Merrett can’t handle it. He’s also holding back due to concussion fears having 2 in 4 weeks. Teams know if u tag him they are more likely to win.
Ebert from Port held Fyfe to 75 and he’ll do worse to Merrett.
Merrett is good but he’s no Fyfe.

Bundy is doing his job, getting heaps of it,if he improves his DE look out.

  35. A couple of queries this week?

Is Zorko a sell? I know it’s still early but I feel there are some much better options at a lower price.

Anyobdy rate Jared Polec as a mid POD? He seems to be going really well.

And lastly is Ratugolea a good trade option for Ryan?

    Thanks, any feedback appreciated.

    2

    1
    1. Hold Zorko – you just know that the week you sell is the week he goes 130+
Polec has a history of hot streaks, my advice is don’t get sucked in
Ratugolea is an option, but two flags: he probably won’t spend as much time in the ruck this week, and he has already been a late out this year. There’s probably better alternatives

      0

      1. Cheers Chillo,

I picked Zorko for a reason so I guess panic trading in round 4 is not the smartest idea.

My alternative for the rookie in the forward line is most likely Waterman, he seems to be a bit more consistent.

        1

        0
    2. I reckon Zorko has already lost half of the value he is likely to, so if you still have him you may want to HOLD. The question I’d be asking myself is, do I think his start to 2018 is a trend (Rocky’s departure is responsible and/or other factors)? or, is it just a blimp (he’ll come could and revert to his norm)? Base your decision on that. If he averages over 100 from here, he will drop very little value between now and year end.

Polec too inconsistent for me and given he is unlikely to ave.110+, he will not be a keeper either and therefore is a waste of a trade.

Henry is definitely a better option for Ryan (both JS and scoring ability)

      Just my thoughts/opinions. Good luck!

  36. Here is my plan, what do you think?

    UP- Option 1
Brayshaw to Coniglio (dip into Danger/Dusty fund) &
Liam Ryan to Ed Richards via dpp

DN – Option 2 (sacrifice loophole)
Sam Hayes (ruck loop) to Coniglio (dip deeper into Danger/Dusty fund) &
Liam Ryan to Ed Richards via dpp

    5

    4
      1. Sounds like you have a plan in place to get danger or dusty at a cheaper price over the next few weeks. I guess it depends if you think coniglio is a keeper, cos it will hurt to see danger for a good price and you fall a bit short with your fund due to this trade! if either of these two replicate last years form, there may only be a small window of opportunity at a reduced price.

That being said coniglio could go top eight

    1. Have you enough cash to just go Hayes or Ryan + Dangerfund to Cog as a single trade??
If you can I would do that and use then the one you don’t trade is your loophole for now.
If you don’t need to do two trades right now, then I reckon don’t.
If you can’t afford that, it’s a DN from me.

  37. Brayshaw -> Richards via Finlayson
    Billings -> Franklin

Currently used 0 trades and this allows me to play Murray on field instead of Banfield or Barry

TU start putting those trades to use
    TD hoard the trades

    1

    11
    1. Murray on field over Barry / Banfield is a good trade – probably 20 points a week on average (Finlayson would still be on field, I’m assuming?).

I’m not sold on Billings-> Franklin for two reasons.
      (1) Buddy is the type of player that you need to have in for the whole year because if you miss his massive scores (like round 1), you won’t get full value; and (2) Billings hasn’t started that slowly (maybe a bit under what you were expecting) and he’s still a good chance to end up top 8-10 forwards.

      3

      0
      1. Just my thoughts:

        – Buddy plays for a top 4 team that will win most weeks and he is their best forward.
Billings plays for a team that isn’t as good and a team that might get pumped every 3rd-4th week in which he may score around 60.

        – Sydney games are much more fun to watch when you own Buddy and we play this game for the entertainment factor.

        – Say we need to upgrade 7-9 more players on your field and lets say we need 20 trades to make that happen, hence we can sideways a couple as a luxury to give us a chance to stay in touch with overall rankings early.

        Anyone buying what i’m selling?

My DEF doesnt have room for murray due to rookies getting good points on field (finlayson, bonnar, doedee)

        1. Yeh not really much you can do besides hold. All your backs and mids are performing really well and still have cash to make. Your forward rooks may not be putting up huge scores but they should still all make their breakeven and make cash.

The only way to do what you want would be to downgrade a premo either back or mid (finlayson swing) to field Murray and upgrade a fwd rook but that seems pointless haha

          1

          0
              1. Don’t see that being worthwhile because he’ll end up with Kelly, Holman, or Finlayson on the mid bench with Murray on field (current averages are 108/90/90 and 75).

                1

                0
    1. Another option – trade in Coffield to your mid (if you can afford him). Then sub Finlayson to mid (for Coffield) and put him on the ground. Then put Murray on the field leaving Coffield as a sub.

    1. are you the same Chris who has the $300k spare as above?

you could simply do the Ryan trade getting whoever you can afford. My order of preference at this point would be McLean, over Heeney (just), over Hogan (though might be proven wrong).

    1. I actually did the Mills to Cog trade last week 😉 No regrets despite his 100+, but I was forced to do it to optimise an essential corrective trade.

What I would say now though is that he has already done his mini-price correction and given he is more likely to improve on current ave. than fall away, it’s actually a waste of a trade. Your FWD line looks pretty good from where I’m standing and there’ll be plenty more options to come.

Ryan’s price is obviously not going to change for a while, so you can either use him as a loophole to get the better of Fritsch and Garlett scores this week or trade him now to a bubble burster, eg Henry or Crowden.

I know people who are going to keep Ryan right through to his return as he will grow $80k just for returning to the field. Obviously those that don’t have him will see his return as an opportunity to get on board.

Good luck with it. And do what YOU think is right

I like ur theory….. I will hold both and get Mills to Laird down the track

No trades this week altho watched ur saints last week live and J Steven was a concern….. Looked like a niggling injury….I also think if PM goes the whole team overall will play better. He doesnt suit the players around him
PS I traded Rocky for him after Round 1 . Think I will hold tho and use him to trade up for Danger in a couple if he doesnt come good
Thanks for convincing me to hold

I have three alternatives I am considering. The two below and the third as a reply.

    TU: Macrae and Sicily IN
TD: Ryan (DEF via DPP) and Greene, or …

      1. Macrae and Gibbs are great, but not sure on the other lot.

        – Hogan has had 2 easy games for his good scores but only scored 79 against Geelong.
        – Sicily’s preseason worries was getting suspended and it coaches only had him for all of 2 weeks. Will no doubt miss again and will be targeted.
        – Greene missed all the pre-season, played a game and spent the last two weeks on the sidelines with hamstring concerns. Suspension risk also.
        – Still not entirely convinced with Ryan but that may just be me. I expected him to be held slightly more accountable but seems to be playing a friendly role at the moment.

        1. Thanks mate. That’s why I’m struggling with it..
thinking that Hogan has two tough games up next but then relatively easy to the byes. Sicily COULD end up a D6 if he ever pulls his neck in (unlikely on evidence to date) and haven’t yet seen enough of Greene in 2018 to take the risk (but does appear to have mentally matured* comparative to Sicily).
Gibbs, Macrae and Ryan are ALL on my target set and forget list and will not be convinced otherwise 😉

Not keen on Macrae as not sold on the bulldogs…
R Gray better option and cheaper….
Sicily is to eractic…. Trust your rookies until you can get to
Laird/Simpson/ Shaw…. Or take a punt on Seedsman

  45. In the past I haven’t been trigger happy with trades but tend to run out a bit early anyway. This season I haven’t used a trade as yet and fortunately had all of the right rookies to start with. So I could downgrade Brayshaw to either Crowden or Henry and build up a bit of cash or should I look to upgrade my D3 POD that hasn’t really worked (Tom Langdon).
    DEf: Laird,Hibberd,Langdon,Doedee,Murray,Finlayson(Naughton,Murphy)
    Have 70k in bank.
Did say in a different thread I would hang on to Langdon even if ends up at D6 but am open to suggestions.

    1

    0
    1. I think Luke Ryan would be the best option to replace Langdon. Will increase in price in the short-term and should end up D5/6 at worst I feel. The only risk is that this is his first FULL season so whether he has the engine needs to be considered.

      1

      0
  46. I think people need to realise that the Zerrett issue is shaping up a bit like the Sloane issue last year. In his career Zerrett has scored 87, 109, 67, 92, 95 and 53 whilst being tagged for an average of 83. Before the season started I was worried that tags would affect Zerrett and steered away until I started to worry that my team lacked pods and justified the Zerrett pick because of him going 3rd last year in points per minute (pods are often traps).

Whilst last week there was still the chance he could turn it around now the evidence is mounting that he cannot handle tags and that more teams are going to give him attention. He is Essendon’s best midfielder in a thin group and lacks the bigger bodies around him to give him protection. Yes his value has decreased but you can’t go back and change that. The tags are a real concern and a sideways trade might be warranted at this stage as it seems he is likely to be tagged every 2nd week or so. Apart from the dogs game he hasn’t fallen to pieces due to a tag but he nonetheless looks to be impacted.

A move to Coniglio who I don’t own might be a good move even though it’s against the principles of the game.

    2

    1
        1. haha it’s not such a bad idea. I’m going to go down to Cogs who I was really keen on at the start of the year but ended up not picking. I reckon Ebert will tag Zerrett this week, but I have a strange feeling in my gut that he will break the tag. Then again I had a feeling in my gut that Zerrett was a good pick so I’m going to side with logic on this one.

Coniglio looks to be potentially top 10 and Zerrett looks to be affected by tags and it looks like he will be tagged fairly regularly (he’s been tagged in 5 1/2 of the last 10 home and away games, Jack Steven tagged him for a half last year).

If he gets tagged in half the remaining games he will probably average 85-90 in them and he will probably average 110-115 in the games where he isn’t tagged. I guess you want to pick a guy who will average about 110 for the rest of the season at around his price and I feel Cogs can do that. If I were you I’d go Dusty but there can be no guarantees and it might turn out that teams stop tagging Merrett or he starts to break them.

          1

          1. Im pretty well convinced to do the trade now haha
Started the year with mitchell, merrett, neale, fyfe, cripps and coniglio all who i thought could remain as keepers. Which just left me with the plans of bringing in dusty and danger to finish my mids.
Now with the thoughts of moving merrett on, im thinking i should look at a different option instead
Macrae is one im thinking… and lyons as a straight swap is also quite tempting…

            0

            0

  51. Anyone who is still on the fence about Zach Merrett should take note of his significant slowdown in the second half of last year:

    Zach Merrett 2017 pre-bye average: 112 (8/12 100+)
    Post-bye: 105 (4/9 100+)

And this is from a player who has historically been better post-bye (+18 post-bye differential in 2016, +4 in 2015).

The individual stat with which Merrett’s SuperCoach score was most highly correlated last year was effective disposals (.75 correlation). This dropped from an average of 22.5 pre-bye to 20.1 post-bye. The extra opposition attention he is likely to get this year is not going to help his disposal count or his DE, so this trend is unlikely to reverse.

  52. Hi Guys
Need a bit of advice with my Ablett trade.
    Team as currently set up.
Backs: Laird, Simpson, Savage, Bonner, Doedee, Finlayson (Naughton, Murray)
Mids: Tich, Martin,Ablett, Fyfe, Cripps, T.Kelly, Holman, Banfield (Brayshaw, Garlett, Barry)
    Ruck: Gawn, Nank (Olango)
Forwards: Heeney, McLean, Billings, Sicily, Fisher,Fritsch (Ryan, Langdon)
    Trades: 28 and Bank $176,900
My Question is that i was looking at bringing in Danger at some stage so should i do it now with the Ablett injury with him at $750k or bring in Coniglio now at $499k and wait until Danger bottoms out a bit more and try and conserve cash.
Am i just chasing Coniglios past scores or will it be a good move getting him in at under $500k?
i do have to get rid of Ryan as well as neither him or Langdon are playing in my forward rooks.
    Thanks in advance

  54. Question, how did Jack Henry get to 93 SC points when he only had 13 effective disposals out of his 16, 6 contested possessions and 4 clangers including 3 FA? I didn’t see the game. I’m concerned that with that stat line again in a different game, he could be get only 50 SC

Also does anyone know where we can get qtr by qtr SC scores?

    1. Lots of intercepts, lots of 1 percenters. Champion Data rates those stats highly. But I agree with you, especially against the struggling Saints, I expect Henry’s scoring to drop off.
Any players in particular you want the QxQ numbers for?

      1. Thanks for the info Chillo. i’m still going to bring him in, no point leaving ryan on the pine for 10-12 weeks not earning. i just wanted to check henry’s QXQ scores to see if he had a massive spike in a particular quarter which he didn’t really, decent last quarter, possibly due to scaling though. i found them on scpaige facebook page though, cheers

      2. Interesting stat, Chillo

Saints have had 154 inside 50’s in their first 3 games, in saying that they’re are just terrible in front of goals.

Henry may still see a bit of the ball this week

  55. Graham and Ryan -> Fisher and Henry.

I wanted to trade out Zerret for Gibbs, but I’ve decided to stick by him, and hope he comes through. The Ryan trade is obvious, and Graham to Fisher is a sideways trade, but I believe will be better for points and cash generation.
Graham was my M7, but this trade allows me to have Holman there, and Fisher is replacing a forward rookie in Fritsh/Garlett.
    Good trade?

    1. If you really want Danger then I would wait a week, as he will drop in price and you’re most likely going to be saving around 30-60k.
