Game Chat – Adelaide vs Collingwood

Written by Thommo on June 5 2021

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday 5th June at 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R11 2020: Collingwood 10.2 (62) def Adelaide 5.8 (38) at Adelaide Oval

Recent record: Collingwood 4 – Adelaide 1

Match Preview: With neither team looking likely to play finals, this match holds little interest for the non-Supercoachers out there, despite both teams showing good signs in recent weeks. The Pies arguably should have beaten Port two weeks ago and then they challenged Geelong late last week while who can forget Adelaide defeating Melbourne two weeks ago (yes, I know it was deliberate Dees’ fans)?

Over the last few seasons, the Pies have enjoyed a trip to Adelaide and have enjoyed decent success there. However, this Collingwood side is not of the standard we have seen in recent times. For a start, Grundy is missing his first game since 2017 and the deficiencies don’t end there. It is hard to see their recent form continuing for a sustained period and they seemed destined to spend 2021 dwelling in the cellar.

In direct opposition, the Crows are developing nicely and are no longer pushovers, particularly at home. Tex has rediscovered his love for footy and his form and is leading his team admirably now that he’s no longer captain.

Let’s tip the home team!

Thommo’s Watch:

Adelaide – Tex, Laird, O’Brien, Thilthorpe and James Rowe.

Collingwood – Sidebottom, Poulter, Crisp, Bianco (for those who went early) and NOT GRUNDY!

Thommo’s Tip: Crows by 12 (tipping record 18/33).

    1. I like Laird in this one.

I have Rowe, Poulter and Bianco as well.

Not a good week to run into Wighty in my Donkeys league.

He’s got ROB, with Grundy out, this could get ugly 😉

  2. The Round 14 West Coast Eagles vs. Richmond match has been brought forward to Round 13 and will now be played at Optus Stadium at 5:20pm AWST (7:20pm AEST) on Sunday, June 13.
“Richmond will return to Sydney after their Dreamtime match before travelling to Perth ahead of their match against the Eagles next Sunday and both teams will now serve their bye in Round 14.”
Eight clubs will now serve a bye in Round 14 – Adelaide Crows, Collingwood, Fremantle, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney Swans and the West Coast Eagles.
